hey im bidding on one just like that...you mentioned the cutting edge im guessing since its under 4" its legal to carry in california, i been stopped with my crkt 14sfg tanto and the blade is under 4" and its legal so im guessing its legal for the spyderco
The Police model has been my dedicated carry knife for the last 17 years. It has done everything I have needed to do. I sent it back to Syderco last year and got it sharpened and a new belt clip. And it is ready for another 17 years this knife really can last a life time. Most people unhappy with a knife abuse it. It is not a pry bar a screwdriver are a hammer. The Police model has been changed very little since it came out in 1984 it just works.
got mine today its fast and scharp, aldo the chinook 3 came in scharper.it has a realy nice grip and desing, i dont find it verry heavy, its more for display, but it is like it melts in my hands.
thnx for the reviuw i watcht it, along whit some outher ours is one of the best .just orded it realy nice knive, i think i would use it that much it more for display.
Awww Shit man...I read that these things are over $100 ir somethin like that...I got mine in mint condition for free, I actually got it outta a storage container for bout $30 but yea there was lots of other "usefull" stuff in there along with even more pricey knives...too bad it's missing the spring that holds the blade out/in...think I might just try and sell mine
I LOVE this knife~!! I love it so much I bought TWO of them. Later, I sold one brand new, and .... I thought I've lost the other one until it came up to me when I went to a storage box just to night ~!!!!!!!!! I am EXCITED~!!!! MADE IN JAPAN ~!!! Proud to be a Japanese ;-)
I have a police from 1998, it's just about the same. For me it's to unsafe to use. If in a stressfull situation and sweaty hands I would probadly not even could open the blade!!!
@xsv75 In the place I live (Potugal) I can't have a blade just for self defense. That is why I dont use my police any more! I use an EDC blade like the tenacious, even so it´s hard to explain what kind of use!!! For me self defense with a knife is second nature! just chose the one that is most appealing to you!
I have this knife. It's a really great looking knife. Like you said, it's great for a collection. The steel is questionable, though. The tip of mine chipped when I dropped it on the floor. Also, the knife isn't that great for fighting because you may end up cutting yourself when you thrust unless you modify your grip by capping.
So you're saying my Spyderco C07P is brittle? Because I intentionally drop knives to test them. I've dropped Gerbers and also other cheaper knives and they did not chip... I'm just curious why my Spyderco C07P chipped.
gerber uses softer steel the softer steel will handle more shock thus not chip. vg10 is harder and chips. hardness helps keep the edge longer but the con is it can chip the police isnt brittle it just isnt meant to be used in a way it wasnt designed for like dropping. do not drop knives ever not to test not on accident. a police dosent have to be tested its a proven design Feel free to PM me With questions and i hope you understand im not knocking you just trying to be helpful :]
This is kinda a personal preference sorta thing. For me, I think a properly sharpened plain edge will function every bit as good as a serrated edge, and it's easier to sharpen and maintain. A serrated edge will excel in cutting rope or heavy cloth, but I don't prefer it if I have a choice.
I traded for this knife so I got what was offered to me, but I think if you look on Spyderco's website you should be able to order with a choice of plain edge or serrated. Also, the new model has a grippy G10 handle instead of steel, a huge plus!
I love the G10 handled police, but they went to a flat grind with no swedge... I really like the hollow grind with the swedge on the the old style. If they made that blade with the G10 handle I'd buy it right now.
The length of the handle makes and effective non-lethal improvised impact weapon, although the all metal construction my present grip issues with sweaty or damp hands.
Fuck the Police...... good knife though

steel is not questionable VG10 is a proven blade steel dont drop your knives harder blade steels will chip used inapropriately

tengc 2 years ago
@thewarrior1989 BTW, the steel on my police is ATS 54 or 55. I got mine in the 90s. I think the steel was different then.
tengc 1 year ago
@tengc ats 55 is also way harder than gerber steels and will chip rather than bend
also trust me when i say the failure was your fault not the knives, dont drop them.
thewarrior1989 1 year ago
@tengc Yeah, I should not drop them. I just wanted to let you know it was ATS55. Would you know why they changed steels?
tengc 1 year ago
@tengc Just a heads up man - you responded to yourself on here, so the dude you were asking about why they changed steels won't know you've asked.

I dig the swedge too.

mine is full serrated tho, the cops in LA use them. ive seen them in their pockets
Dingleberry66 2 years ago
does the blade lock into place?
ttlyADDICTED2BASS 2 years ago
Yes, it's a lockback knife.
macjmillsx 2 years ago
Actually it has a PERFECT lock BUT it is WAY Heavy knife to put on EDC

for an edc knife do u recomend fully non serrated or partially serrated?

Love that knife. From holding it I found it would also be effective as a fistload when closed.

macjmillsx 3 years ago
It just seems too similar to the G10 Endura and costs about the same too.
C'mon Spyderco make some new stuff. How about a framelock Military or something?
mongomondomongo 3 years ago
I think it has more reach than an Endura though. A large framelock spydie would be awesome!
macjmillsx 3 years ago
The G-10 makes it a much better option to carry with you, but I wish they kept that hollow grind with the swedge.
macjmillsx 3 years ago
i love the police especially in g-10, great vid.
