to all the people commenting that think changing the type of rodent offered will get him to feed: that is not always the case. I have a hatchling who is refusing to eat ANYTHING, no matter what type of rodent, f/t or live, no matter what method I use. So I have to force feed her. Some snakes just don't understand the concept of food so early on and force feeding them is the only option. This guy seems like he's doing a great job with this little guy. Good luck!
im surt e u no what ur doin but like u i too purchased most of mine as hatchlings and not one time have any of them ever ate a pinky i will never try a pinky get a fuzzy and a rat pup put them both in his tub put it somwhere dark and warm and leave it there all day thats what has worked for my stubborn ones
i have a special technique that works pretty well for pickey feeders. Fist take a page of newspaper and crumple it up into a ball then put it, the snake and a hopper into a tub and let the newspaper expand out to fill the tub pretty well, then leave them overnight. Soemthing about being touched on all sides by the newspaper makes then feel secure, and they almost always eat.
Bro, thanks a lot. This is the first time I hear of this method. The mod of the BP forum I frequent recommended it too but you were the first one to give me that tip. I tried it last night, over night but it was a no go. But I wont give up on the first try. I will try again on Friday.
ya, on one of my hathclings it took three times with this method before he finally got it, but it deffinetly helps. You just have to cross your fingers and hope that the stars align.
yo that sounds like such a great plain. i really hope he eats. and if the snake doesnt want to eat at first i would go through all the methods of trying to get babies to eat even thought he might have tried them in the past.
I will consider myself lucky if he eventually eats on its own. You can only force feed a hatchling so many times and if he doesnt want to eat then he wont thrive and it will die
yea but anything that does not eat is not worth that money. He pretty much wanted to get rid of it. I dont blame him, he has many other snakes to take care of and having a hatchling not eat can be very frustrating
Has he eat on his own yet?

Not a rat with fur on it, AN AFRICAN FURRED RAT.. look for them at the next show you go to
JTandJTReptiles 2 years ago
Awsome deal but i think your best bet to get him to eat is to try a baby FURRED RAT... don't force feed unless he regects the furred meal
