Thank you! My hammy died a coulpe years back because of wet tail... She was such a gift to life that she was a mistake. She should have been an angel instead
my poor little ham has been really poorley through wet tail. Hes had it twice now hes recovering now but hes not eating or drinking water and hes getting really thin poor little mite :(
wat if he sleeps all day and sometimes he sleeps at night but he comes to the 1st floorof his cage to eat and then he goes right up again does he have wet tail???
hi my hamster is having like greenish wet poop and i think its from the Spinach i gave him he is very active and runing on his wheel could he have wettail ?
@TheEmme12345 the hunched position associated with wet-tail is a position in which the hamster cannot move himself out of. He's literally stuck. You'll know it if you ever see it.
I actually cried whilst i was watching this vidio :(, my hamster had the sighns of wet tail, I took him to the vets 3 days after and they gave me antibiotics. I think i would have found him dead without thier help. Thankfully he is back to his normal self now, but its heartbreaking to hear about your loss, because your hamster 'charlie' looked exactly the same as mine. RIP charlie xxxx
Thank you SO much. I had a hamster who died of wet tail and my sister had five that died from wet tail. When I get my new hamster I'll be sure to buy the medicine ahead of time just in case.
@cupcakegirl125 awesome. make sure you do not handle the hamster for a whole week without getting him. It stresses them out and they need to get used to their surroundings. When people handle them the first week, they're putting them at a really high risk for wet-tail
@Himekahorselover ive had them treated for it when it was in its infant stage and not fully blown and they still died from it 2months later.Only one hamster i had treated survived wet tail and lived for two years before he died ive owned 11hampsters and only two have ever had wet tail and i was really upset when they both died from it because you can tell when they are unwell poor little things
@Subzerouk2 Wet-tail certainly is a tricky thing to fight. Sometimes they get better, and sometimes they won't. Trying to save them is always worth it, though. My friend had a 7 year old hamster who was treated for wet-tail about twice. Both times, she recovered with dri-tail.
you cannot cure wet tail ive had two hampsters with it and one of them died the other one had it when he was a baby and barley survived its a fatal disease for these cute little things its such a shame
MY HAMMY IS FINE SLEEPS IN A HINCHED POSITION AND HAS A DRY BUTT THAT LOOKS WET BUT SHE DOES NOT SMELL AND HAS PELETTS AS POOP. WHEN I FIRST GOT HER I THINK SHE HAD WETTAIL FROM STRESS BUT SHES OK NOW.. OR IS SHE?
@SammySydMy13 If she's acting normal, she's okay. The hunched position I'm talking about is not just any ordinary hunch. When I say they're stuck in a hunched position, I mean they're STUCK. They can't stop being hunched. They won't walk around, or try to get up. It's really scary, and you know it when you see it. It's a late sign. If your hamster doesn't have runny poo, then they don't have wet-tail. It sounds to me like your hamster's okay.
My hamster currently has wet-tail shes very small, she only has the very beginning symptoms seeing as wet-tail IS Diarreah. Before it reaches that far however they will be wet. What I dont understand about my hamster is shes seems to just pee herself like a young child pees the bed in his sleep, but she behaves like it's wet-tail. So this is an early sign of wet-tail, strangely however she's behaving like it's dire wet-tail. Previously before her i lost a newly bought baby who did die of suvere
@PrincessTeddyTube wet-tail. But this new hamster having a light case of beginning wet-tail has had a personality change she sleeps always eats and drinks never and she is always hunched. Just don't handle her for a week since she's in a new place. she needs to get used to it before you take her out. also, some pet stores will give the hamsters a very small amount of oats with their food. it supposedly helps prevent wet-tail. not too much, just a little.
My hamster had wet tail for like a week and i thought her but was wet for no reason becaue she was acting normal =/ but it kept getting worse and she started to sleep allot. so i took her to the pet store and they told me that it was indeed wet tail. i got her the medicine and she's already doing beter

@PaisleyTeaSkye there's more medicines than just dri-tail, but I put that in the video, because my friend had a 7-year-old hamster who got we-tail a few times, and was cured with dri-tail.
@babyaustin999 DO NOT handle her for the entire first week. She needs time to adjust. Wet-tail is caused by stress. Don't stress her out. Just leave her completely alone, in a quiet room (in her cage of course) for the entire week, but monitor her poo every day.

I just lost a hamster to wet tail she was about a month old. When she got it she didn't really drink or eat much just really slept and walked very little. Her sister has it also but she is alive we have given her medicine and put a little in the water aswell she is always running on the little wheel in her cage for hours she eats and drinks normally. Should I be worried at all if so what else can I do. We also give her the medicine in her mouth in the mornings.
@Himekahorselover she has a little bit of diarrhia and seems to be sleeping a little more now. She ate a few times and we gave her medicine through her mouth earlier. She also drank the water about 5 or 6 times which has the medicine in it. She only walk around like four or five times today.
@Himekahorselover it wasnt my hamster but it was my little brothers gift for his birthday so i tried helping him out with it but i guess it was just to late for cookie and butterscotch. Butter died i guess sometime during the school day yesterday. Rip cookie and butter. thanks for your help though.
@himekahorselover it's ok, she died on my hand the same day 2 hours after I found her. I don't think she suffered from wet tail, I think she was just old.
I have a robo dwarf hamster and she is very sick. She has a wet butt but it doesn't look dirty and doesn't have the other symptoms in this vid. She can't stand up anymore and has to lay on her side. She's breathing really fast and heavy and won't take any food. I don't know what to do and I've had her for 2 1/2 years should I take her to the vet so they can put her down..?
on monday my hamster, Furball died, from wet tail desease, this lead to her having a colon prolapse, which also lead to her dieing from, wet tail, extreme pain and poison by not realesing her feces, R.I.P. Furball
@allenvideos11 If they both are active and normal at night, then it is unlikely. However, petsmart has tablets you put in your hamster's water that cures or prevents wet-tail. It may not hurt to get those for your dwarf hamster.
@Himekahorselover but also my dwarf hamster wont eat or drink properly , i have to hold her and force the water into her mouth , i know it sounds nasty , but other wise shell die
@allenvideos11 I'd give him the medicine then, or take him to a vet.
Tell your parents you'll pay for it yourself, but if you can't afford it, work it off. it's worth it, saving your hamster's life. I did this for my hamster, Ozzy, who had a urinary tract infection. I payed the vet myself & worked off the rest.
@allenvideos11 you should really take her to the vet. refusing food and water could be a number of things, and the vets can run tests and ask questions, come up with a diagnosis, and give you medicine for her. this is how it was with ozzy.
i just got my hamster and shes about a month or so old and she basically sleeps in a corner for like half the day and gets up sometimes to eat or to just run on the wheel. but at the pet store all of the baby hamsters looked all drowsy like that. so is this normal or bad???
@m3lz1 hamsters are nocturnal. it's normal for them to sleep during the day, but if they keep sleeping ALL night, that might be questionable. here's a rule of thumb- if the hamster later gets up and is energetic as ever, no worries.
i bought my very first hamster a few months ago, the day before its 4 week mark, something went wrong, she had a seizure and her lungs swole up, i was forced to put her down :(
my hamster has wet tail ve had her for about a year and my other teddy died of wet tail......its sunday so the vets arent open and my parents wont ytake her to the vet anyways because they say its too expesive....what do i do ot make her feel better??? ive been crying for a while not knowing what do do :'(
i use to have a hamster, i bought him long time ago, but when i bought him he lived just for a couple weeks, first week he was ok then next week i saw he has a wet tail, i took him to the vet, he gave me antibiotics and the hamster survive all week, and then he die because he lose lots of weight and was so weak , he didnt wanted to eat or drink :*(, now i got 2 hamsters they live with me 2 months and 1 hamster has babys :) and today i bought another 1 new.. i hope they will be ok :)
@NiGhTmaReoFanGels12 Just make sure you leave them alone for a whole week so they can settle in. It's often in the first week that hamsters die of wet-tail, since it is stress-triggered.
@Himekahorselover is it ok to leave new hamster with other hamster beside ? but in the different cage.? so they would keep for him a company as a neighbours :(?
@Himekahorselover my house is not queit the most atleast quiets place is the living room, is not stressful much :)... i know often young new hamster gets wet tail :( for older hamster might be chance to survive , but i afraid if the new hamster gets a wet tail so it might pass the wet tail to the baby hamsters :(...
my hamster has a spot on his tummy that is kind of weird. like right down the middle is brown and has a brown bump in the middle. and his fur around it looks longer and wet. is this normal? please respond soon. i'm scared.
@Himekahorselover well that is not an option due to limited financial abilities. do you know any remedies for cheap. it has gotten a bit better since i noticed. i think he will be fine though. Do you know anything like if it is a disease?
Sonic (my pet hampster) died last night (18.07.11) He seemed happy and active. He was fine, then less than a day later he wasn't his usual self. I have no idea what happened and I lost him shortly afterwards. :( I'm sad to see I'm late to finding out about wet tail and the hampsteriffic website but I do wish to Thank you for making and uploading the video, sharing the information and helping people to become aware. Rest In Peace Sonic and Charlie.
@BigGanja0 Sonic.. what a name! He's dancing around the cosmos now. Now that you are learning more about hamsters, it will help you be even more of a great owner in the future.
@Himekahorselover thankyou for your reply, it was certainly tough to say goodbye. Sonic will remain in my heart, how he would run about etc, his very existance and his being has humbled me and taught me a LOT about life and so very quickly. I have another hammy called tails and unfortunately it won't be the same now without sonic (he had such personality) but regardless she is also lovely and again I echo what I said before thank you for sharing this knowledge with people.
@BigGanja0 You are certainly welcome. I know it is difficult to lose a loved one, and I know how hard it is to say goodbye to them. I'm sure you are a fantastic owner.
my second hamster only lived for a 3 weeks and then he die from the wet tail , because i made a huge mistake by feeding yogurt or vegetables, and i was hoping to help him... i done all my best.... now i hope my new hamster wont die i will do my best not to give vegatables or yogurt i will give him a baby food if he will get sick.. if he going to get wet tail i will run to the vet again...
@9littlebutterfly Vegetables are perfectly okay to give them as long as they're fresh and treats should only be 20% of their diet. However, cow's milk is not designed for a hamster's body. Wet-tail is primarily caused by stress. Please check out my other video about preventing wet-tail.
i use to have 4 hamsters 1 run away 2 die from wet tail and another 1 i just bought yesterday...
the second hamster which die from wet tail i took him to the wet because i saw his first signs of wet tail.. the wet gave me antibiotics but he told me if the hamster is strong he will beat up if he not he will be die. i tried everything every day i fed him with yogurt, and i gave some water with that medicion in it, i gave some vegetables thats the biggest mistake i made it.
Thank you so much. I think this is how my DWARF hamster died. She had all of the late symptoms. When I came home and checked on her she was hunched, reluctent to move, would not open her eyes, etc. The vets said she had a stomach organ rupture and a possible wet tail.
Im kinda worried.... I Didnt Know The Signs Either... Untill now..... my hamster does all of those except diariah her tail is fine my hamster hunches when she sleeps but her belly is pretty fine.... I love Sammy Shes My life <3 but im alittle worried I would be more worried but she as been doing all this for a year now so im pretty fine i guess.... but That you SOOOOO much for this video without this many peoples hamsters might have gotten wet tail! thanks again BYE! -Sam And Alexa <3
my friend got a new hamster and all she did was sleep i told her that her hamster had wet tail but she didnt realy believe me after 2 days of not eating and all she did was sleep she started to believe me now her hamster is back in the store taking medicin i hope shes alright
i didnt notice any early symptoms in my hamster but when i picked her up she was really cold and was breathing fast and a couple minutes later blood and mucus poured out of her noes and mouth i got dri tail and it worked for a couple days but then the same thing happened and she died it was really sad :(
@MegaPirateGurl wet-tail is basically diarrhia. For humans, this condition is not worrisome and is fairly simple to correct. In hamsters is is quite destructive and deadly.
My knowledge goes as far as hamsters. I have no experience with guinea pigs.
My gerbil has wet tail! :O He has every single symptom you showed in this video. Crusty eyes, hunches position, wont open his eyes, sits in whatever position, wont eat, etc. Do I take him to a vet or will the stuff from petsmart cure him? Pleaseee reply! :O
my hamster was fine ealier today, but it has wet tail. My last hamster had it too, and died.I just got done crying. iv'e been crying all day because of everything. This world is getting worse. the end of time is coming soon!
@Brookedelonge182 You still have time to cure her! Petsmart has medicine called "dri-tail"
get that and medicate her. She will be fine. A friend of mine kept a hamster living for 6 years. She had wet-tail earlier in life, but my friend gave her dri-tail, and of course, she lived several years afterward.
And the world won't get worse if we all do our part to make it a great place!
@Himekahorselover that day my mom went and got dri-tail medicine, and she gave it a few drops, an a hour later, he died. I was really sad. i promised myself, no more Hamsters!! i have a puppy, she will live a long time:]
i got my hamster on tuesday and he died four days after that and he would barely open his eyes and would hunch may you rest in peace my first hamster nibbles :( :( :( :' ( :'( :'(
my hamster has wet tail. She is on the late symptoms but has been jagged by vet and getting better. RIP to all pets that have died because of wet tail.
@TheRegalKing1 of course. everyone needs sleep. when i say sleeping more than usual, you'd know it if that was the case. a hamster with wet-tail will not be active.
hey my hamster usually come out at 7 but two days ago he wake up at 7.30 or maybe 8 and he has created at an angle of the cage a place without bedding and sit there and clean or scrath himself like a dog but sometimes when a poke him he goes away very fast and climb up the roof (he always do that) stay a little chewing the cage bars than again sit at his place but than after two hours he goes again at his house to sleep or eat . but he doesnt stay always at that angle and he is aktive.
Gerbils can get it too....my gerbil passed away yesterday...everything you said, she had. Thanks for sharing this video, really...I wish I had this before....
I had a hamster when very little and did not take good care for him because I was too young. I just now realized he died of wet tail. He was a Syrian.
I am getting a hamster now that I'm older and I'm certainly going to take good care of him.
When I had my first hamster I was 7 years old he lived a long life about 4.5 years, at that time I couldn't have known for this disease... :c
Im gonna go get him wet tail plus as that the best I can do, the vet will charge over $100.00 just to look at him and give him the meds. Money is tight since ive been fighting cancer with state insurance, going through chemo with a 2k bill from going to the ER one time. All I can do is keep him watered and wait for the store to open. I dont need this right now thats for sure I cant take much more. I wish you all well and hope for the best as this is very sad to go though. Good luck
i thoght it was sleeping longer because it was a baby, thought of taking him to a vet, but since i just bought him i thought he was healthy. my firt hamster and it lived for 2 days :(
Hi.. please answer me.. just got my hamster, but in pet shop.. they are STUPID... they told me.. he can live about 10 years O.O ... and they don't know his age, or rase, or sex..please anwer me...
after watching this video, i cried :( my hamster just died in his sleep last night becaue of wet tail. it was my first hamster so i didnt know why his tail and butt were bloody and wet. i thought he was stressed so he was biting himself or something. but i woke up this morning finding him dead in his peekaboo</333 he was only 4 months old. R.I.P hammy</3333 i♥ yuuh : ' )
My black bear hammy bear started acting funny last night, He could barely move and was burying his head. I thought it was getting close to his time he is going on 3 years. I stayed up and watched over him and he seemed to return to normal. Then today same thing he can barely move and lays flat out. Thought it was strokes but tonight around 9pm I noticed wet droppings so im sure its wet tail. Its now 5:21 he is still fighting.
wow. My hamster died Sunday morning, well, i guess it was Saturday night. She was 4 months old, my first hamster, and i didn't know why she was acting strangly, i thought she just had a poorly stomache and wanted to sleep it off. And i woke up, and she was dead. I miss her, she was silver and grey, unlike any hamster i've seen before, very rare coat colour. And now she's gone, i hope she meets everyone's unfortunate hamsters up there too. RIP Luna
My hammy always want to sleep but hi is just awake at one hour in the night but when i pick him up he becom verry aktive and runs around is it something wrong with him please help me i love my hammy.
i am sooooo glad my hammy haz NOT got wet tail i checked every sighn of the simptoms i am soo sosososososo glad he hasnt got it but if i hadnt of caught my neice (11) same age as me flipping him in the air he probbly would of got it.
just got a hamster last Saturday and he is sleeping nearly all the time but he was awake a minute ago and running round his new rearranged and cleaned cage but he's sleeping now, im scared!?!!!?
Remember that hamsters are nocturnal. If he's running around and being active, there's absolutely no reason to panic. Besides, now that it's been a week, he should be used to his new home now. :)
Just remember, you shouldn't interact with them for the first week. imagine being taken away from your mum, shipped to a plastic room with a bunch of other little guys, being put in a little cardboard carrying case and all of a sudden you're in a new house in a new world and suddenly a giant what looks like a 5-headed snake is picking you up with it's heads and talking to you! If you've already handled him, just look out for the signs & remember dri-tail :3
@VCAndrewsForever I performed electric shock therapy with a car battery on my hamster to cure wet tail. granted he died but his tail wasn't wet anymore!

@Canefanforlife1 It sounds like the medicine is working. Petsmart sells a medicine called "Wet-Tail Plus- Antibiotic Fizz-Tablets"
these tablets treat, and/or prevent wet-tail, but it sounds like she's doing great. Does she have diarrhia or any other symptoms?
Himekahorselover 3 months ago
@Himekahorselover she has a little bit of diarrhia and seems to be sleeping a little more now. She ate a few times and we gave her medicine through her mouth earlier. She also drank the water about 5 or 6 times which has the medicine in it. She only walk around like four or five times today.
Canefanforlife1 3 months ago
@Canefanforlife1 Alright. Keep giving her the medicine until all her symptoms dissappear. Good luck! :)

Please help

ive got a robo dwarf hamster , and hes got diyariha and my syrian hamster sleeps for a long time , do you think any of them have wet tail
allenvideos11 4 months ago
@allenvideos11 If they both are active and normal at night, then it is unlikely. However, petsmart has tablets you put in your hamster's water that cures or prevents wet-tail. It may not hurt to get those for your dwarf hamster.
Himekahorselover 4 months ago
@Himekahorselover but also my dwarf hamster wont eat or drink properly , i have to hold her and force the water into her mouth , i know it sounds nasty , but other wise shell die
allenvideos11 4 months ago
@allenvideos11 I'd give him the medicine then, or take him to a vet.
Tell your parents you'll pay for it yourself, but if you can't afford it, work it off. it's worth it, saving your hamster's life. I did this for my hamster, Ozzy, who had a urinary tract infection. I payed the vet myself & worked off the rest.
Himekahorselover 4 months ago
@allenvideos11 you should really take her to the vet. refusing food and water could be a number of things, and the vets can run tests and ask questions, come up with a diagnosis, and give you medicine for her. this is how it was with ozzy.

i just got my hamster and shes about a month or so old and she basically sleeps in a corner for like half the day and gets up sometimes to eat or to just run on the wheel. but at the pet store all of the baby hamsters looked all drowsy like that. so is this normal or bad???
m3lz1 5 months ago
@m3lz1 hamsters are nocturnal. it's normal for them to sleep during the day, but if they keep sleeping ALL night, that might be questionable. here's a rule of thumb- if the hamster later gets up and is energetic as ever, no worries.

NiGhTmaReoFanGels12 5 months ago
@NiGhTmaReoFanGels12 Just make sure you leave them alone for a whole week so they can settle in. It's often in the first week that hamsters die of wet-tail, since it is stress-triggered.
good luck! :)

@Himekahorselover is it ok to leave new hamster with other hamster beside ? but in the different cage.? so they would keep for him a company as a neighbours :(?
NiGhTmaReoFanGels12 5 months ago
@Himekahorselover my house is not queit the most atleast quiets place is the living room, is not stressful much :)... i know often young new hamster gets wet tail :( for older hamster might be chance to survive , but i afraid if the new hamster gets a wet tail so it might pass the wet tail to the baby hamsters :(...

Sonic (my pet hampster) died last night (18.07.11) He seemed happy and active. He was fine, then less than a day later he wasn't his usual self. @Himekahorselover thankyou for your reply, it was certainly tough to say goodbye. my second hamster only lived for a 3 weeks and then he die from the wet tail , because i made a huge mistake by feeding yogurt or vegetables, and i was hoping to help him... i done all my best.... now i hope my new hamster wont die i will do my best not to give vegatables or yogurt i will give him a baby food if he will get sick.. if he going to get wet tail i will run to the vet again...
9littlebutterfly 7 months ago
@9littlebutterfly Vegetables are perfectly okay to give them as long as they're fresh and treats should only be 20% of their diet. However, cow's milk is not designed for a hamster's body. Wet-tail is primarily caused by stress. Please check out my other video about preventing wet-tail.
Himekahorselover 7 months ago
i use to have 4 hamsters 1 run away 2 die from wet tail and another 1 i just bought yesterday...
the second hamster which die from wet tail i took him to the wet because i saw his first signs of wet tail.. the wet gave me antibiotics but he told me if the hamster is strong he will beat up if he not he will be die. i tried everything every day i fed him with yogurt, and i gave some water with that medicion in it, i gave some vegetables thats the biggest mistake i made it.

Thank you so much. I think this is how my DWARF hamster died. She had all of the late symptoms. When I came home and checked on her she was hunched, reluctent to move, would not open her eyes, etc. The vets said she had a stomach organ rupture and a possible wet tail.

Can guinea pigs get wet tail? I thought it was from a dirty cage. Like when they sit in their pee all day?
MegaPirateGurl 8 months ago
@MegaPirateGurl wet-tail is basically diarrhia. For humans, this condition is not worrisome and is fairly simple to correct. In hamsters is is quite destructive and deadly.
My knowledge goes as far as hamsters. I have no experience with guinea pigs.
Himekahorselover 8 months ago
do you know if guinea pigs can get wet tail???
turdmonkey67 8 months ago
@turdmonkey67 They can get diarrhia. Which, of course, is a problem.
I'm not very experienced with guinea pigs, but if your guinea pig has signs of illness, I would advise seeking the expertise of a veterinarian.

my hamster was fine ealier today, but it has wet tail. My last hamster had it too, and died.I just got done crying. iv'e been crying all day because of everything. This world is getting worse. the end of time is coming soon!
Brookedelonge182 9 months ago
@Brookedelonge182 You still have time to cure her! Petsmart has medicine called "dri-tail"
get that and medicate her. She will be fine. A friend of mine kept a hamster living for 6 years. She had wet-tail earlier in life, but my friend gave her dri-tail, and of course, she lived several years afterward.
And the world won't get worse if we all do our part to make it a great place!

TheRegalKing1 10 months ago

Good luck
