Do not worry about how you are coming off man. You look beautiful. And not being interested in sports doesn't have anything to do with being gay. That's just a silly stereotype.
@samtheman931 Ugh, I know. Almost 3 years later now, it's hard for me to look back and watch this video of myself, haha. I'm a much different speaker now :) a lot less flamboyant too, hah.
Times sure have changed. Took me until I was 40 after a hopeless marriage (my heartfelt apologies to my ex). Kinda limited my choices, don't ya think. But it was a different era. So congratulations, Kyle. Good job! At least you are on the right track and will have the luxury of dating all the wrong guys and learning life's valuable lessons on the way to Mr. Right, instead of dating all the right girls on the way to Ms Wrong, merely going through the motions to everyone's eventual disappointment.
I feel the same way; the burden shouldn't always be there to lie about who you are. It took me two whole weeks to convince myself to tell my closest friend, but the second time was so much easier. Only two people know, because I have VERY homophobic parents who openly talk about gay people as idiots who are unnatural, and how they should be arrested. I thought I was straight until I realized that this, not that, turned me on. My sister supports gay and lesbian rights, but I can't tell her. :(. T
what's with people always coming out via 5 page letter? i've yet to come out but i plan to do it soon once i'm off to college and i plan to just do it over the phone and say "i'm gay". is that a bad idea?
HAha, worked out differently for me. I told my best friend in september and kept it between usb etween us, then in january we decided ok time for everyone at school to know, so I got there that morning and blurted it out then about 2 months later I told my parents. Parents are the only people that didn't accept it. But no one knew I was bi =]
I kind of envy you. :) I grew up in a Christian Fundamentalist home, so at 16 coming out was just not an option for me. (My closest friends new, but not my family.) I wanted to, but...Anyway, everything you said about lying about yourself is so very true--did that, got depressed, and even suicidal. Although my family situation couldn't have turned out more different than yours, it was still worth it because I am happy. I miss them in my life, but what can you do in a situation like that?
There is nothing more imporant than us being truthful to ourselves and finding that inner happiness... and we cannot do that if we constantly have to lie. Even though it did not work out the best... you did the right thing. :) I hope the best and that one day the lost connections are restored.
Thanks! :) As for the lost connections, it sadly remains for them. I don't know where they are living anymore--they have moved in the few years that have passed since the last time I saw them, and they didn't let me know. (I know that sounds so sad.) They do, however, have my phone number. So...
I knew I was gay since I was at least 11. I started just looking at girls in a different way. When I pictured my wedding day, I pictured me and a nice looking man in a forest (forest because I've been Pagan since I was like 10) and then the man always turned into a beautiful woman. And I would think to myself, "Wow, she's hot." Then I would be shocked with myself. I told my friends and they were cool. Then I started getting depressed. I waited 5 years to tell my parents and I was hidden.
I am in love with you, thank you so much for posting this. I came out and my life has kind of been snow-balling every since, so really do appreciate this video. You said a lot of true things, especially the one about there aren't enough ocming out videos on here.
As for someone interested in psychology I'd like to know if there were any specific events in your life or something that made you attract to same sex. Or maybe you have experienced something traumatizing before etc? And when you understood you have these urges. And were you interested in girls while little?
are you trying to say that you have to have been through a 'traumatic experience' to be gay? your insane. you know nothing about psychology. if you did, you would know that it is not only a psychology its about biology.
its about your genes. people aren't gay for any other reason than that's what they are. x
Why did you become straight???? Being gay in not a choice or a decission - it's just there. People are born black, white, girl, boy, tall, short, and there are some that are born gay. Most hide it until they can handle the effects of "coming out", but beside that, there's really no reason as to why we came out, it's of a when did we feel like telling people the truth, ya know?
I truly wish that people like FootOfFury could, just for a few moments (at least), step inside a gay person--I think they would realize once and for all that it has nothing to do with choice!!
Interesting, Kyle, you focused on your parents and their reaction, which really, in reality, was nothing to fear, and is now a bridge to understanding. However, you don't mention the best friend whose instinctive reaction was to condemn you...did she lighten up, or are you not friends anymore. Actually, best friends can play a very important role in making this easy or difficult! It's hard to deal with criticism from people you care about. Nice job! :)Jack

I love you Kyle. Did you really play with flowers? It wouldn't shock me if you did. By the way, your friend is wrong - you're not going to hell. You're too kind and sweet to do that. Besides, you wouldn't stand a chance there. <3
"I would rather play with the flowers then sports." haha! You know, I may not be able to relate to your story in the same way, but I think just as a human being, I can. I know what it feels like to think that you have to lie about a part of yourself. I'm glad that everything went your way, because it doesn't for all. I love the bit about Survivor.
