Albert Lee is great and I saw him back up the Everly Brothers in Boston many years ago. However, anyone who is interested in Albert Lee should check out the late, GREAT Clarence White of the Byrds. I saw him at C.W. Post College on Long Island in 1971 and I thought that next to Jimi Hendrix, he was the second best guitarist at that time, even though they played different styles. Hendrix said the same thing about him.
a true master. I saw him live when I was about 19. He uses a delay pedal set with a short slap back echo to give the effect of even more speed and almost two guitarists playing the same licks .
I have the video where he teaches you how to do it. It's fairly simple once you've got all the bits in place. You actually pick the strings much slower than normal! The trick is to keep your timing and finger changes absolutely in tempo otherwise it turns into an unholy mess.
early influences on albert lee: Scotty Moore, James Burton, Jimmy Bryant and "Galloping" Cliff Gallop-the masters of rockabilly-now Albert himself takes his place among the immortal greats...
to the one who posted the comment about albert being stuck in country get your facts straight man he is idolized in the rock and bllues world too just ask clapton i mean albert has played with spinal tap hahaha Albert is a diverse instrumentalist if i have ever seen one i also met him and one of the humbelist down to earth guys your will ever come across
But what I really don't like about country are those damnit baselines. sounds like you're in a circus... You wanna hear that? listen to the middle part in Pink Floyds "Corporal Clegg". The same base notes...
I play the guitar by myself, and I have to say, yes playing Country Licks like Albert is much more difficult than playing a Rock-Solo. But on the other hand I have to say, speed is not the only thing. I think Albert Lee is one of the best guitar players ever, but look at someone like Joe Bonamassa.(he is fast, watch the bloodline videos here on youtube)he has much more feeling. albert's stuck in country. this is all he can and all he needs as well. Still I prefer solos with a soul.
I love people who doubt Albert Lee's ability without ever trying to play one of his songs. Country Boy has to be one of the single hardest songs to play, it's rediculous.
If you're still thinking about "technique" and 'speed', ya got a ways to go as far as appreciating something called musicality. Sorry, but I'm really f*king sick of this adolescent obsession with....duh.."going fast" as if that signifies any frigging thing at all except OCD.
And I'm sick of the type of pig-ignorant, envious response from people who don't quite understand where the different guitar styles fit and the fact that Albert Lee has a deserved reputation as one of the greats. Albert always plays with great taste and there is a world of musicality in any Albert Lee concert you can count on that. If you have a true musical ear, people understand what a remarkable talent Lee is.
dimebag from pantera is a great player but your missing the point, with a clean sound technique is more important as a drop off will sound far more prominent, you moshers really hack me off with your closed attitude, i love rock playing but what Albert does is awesome.
You spanner! As a guitar player myself and also having played both rock and country what i meant was with a clean sound theres no place to hide if you fuck up, you can get away with a lot of crap and drop offs when drenched in distortion. technique is the key my retard friend not blinding speed covered in overdrive. bet his marshall goes up to 12!!!
a mistake is a mistake. you can hear it regardless if there is a lot of distortion or not. when people use wah pedals, then it's hard to hear mistakes. dimebag from pantera could play way faster and more technical than lee. listen to the pyscho holiday solo off of cowboys from hell.
Great video!! Albert Lee is a great player and performer! Nice guy too. I talked to him once when he was in Holland. He takes time for his fans. When he plays he's havin' fun, you can see that, and that's what music is all about! Thanx for the video!
This guy drive me really crazy - I think I sell all my guitars and buy me a trombone - love this track - greetings from slideede

Albert Lee doesn't only play country! He's equally at home with the blues / rock. Go and see him live with his own band or with the Rhythm Kings.
