In spite of my years of wild camping I make no claims of being an expert survivalist. But one thing I know is time is always a premium. I have several books specific to the regions I am camping at the time that help me accurately identify edible plants and how best to prepare them. A good way to pass the time while increasing your survival skills and helping suppliment your dried food stores.
@honestcheetah You will find lots of vacant BLM and forest service land, but most of it will be walk in only, with lots of snow. There will be endless dry fuel for campfires. I was outside Prairie City, Oregon in the Strawberry Mountain WIlderness for three weeks and saw one person at the end of the three weeks- remote.
@offgridmontana So I can expect snow in the north facing shade and blue sky overhead most days? I'm hoping to wear my regular keen boots and not snow shoes.
I'd like to collect some Oregon Sun Stones this trip.
I'm not 'blood-thirsty'. I'm not a hunter. I have zero desire to kill a bear or any animal except in a survival scenario. Also, I don't like adding weight to my kit. Having said all that...NO WAY IN HELL do I camp in Bear (or cougar) country without packing my S&W Stainless wheel gun in 357mag. I do not want to get into a knife/machette fight with an animal that outweighs and outruns me several times over. Nice Vids, keep em' coming.

do you have any advice for rural camping in East Oregon during the winter camping. Between Pendleton and Lakeview areas. I'm in a 2wd.

I actually know the bear spray is useless on bears, but works wonders on two leg bears. :)

No, hang the food high in a tree. I have a Ka Bar machete and bear spray.

Are you worried about bears or other predators?
