I think Hey Hey It's Saturday is a terrible show but the Jackson Jive performance isn't really 'blackface'. It lacks the white eyes and mouths, and blackface performace didn't have those big fluffy wigs. I think differences in culture need to be considered here too, meaning many Australians sense of humor is vastly different to many in the US. For example, if we take off a white group/person, we would dress accordingly perhaps exaggerate the appearance of the act we are covering. I think Hey Hey It's Saturday is a terrible show but the Jackson Jive performance isn't really 'blackface'. It lacks the white eyes and mouths, and blackface performace didn't have those big fluffy wigs. They are just exaggerated costumes mimicking (not accurately, but in an exaggerated way) the Jackson Five. It wasn't a generic impersonation of a race, but of specific people.

I think differences in culture need to be considered here too, meaning many Australians sense of humor is vastly different to many in the US. For example, if we take off a white group/person, we would dress accordingly perhaps exaggerate the appearance of the act we are covering. Same happens if someone acts Australian, they exaggerate the appearance
