I work with a 25 year old man, me being older, and he never seen Jimi, just heard Purple Haze on the radio. When I showed him this video he became an immediate fan. He was in awe!
Jimmy was the cats ass man, he was it. Nobody can touch him on guitar. Many try, many imitate, but only one Hendrix. I can remember when he came out, I was a teen, it was like Holy Shit...this guy is awesome! RIP Jimmy, we'll never forget you.
@leftyzappa Exactly. I don't understand why people diss Steve Vai. He's a total virtuoso. Jimi is my all time favorite, but Steve is great in his own right. He also does gigs on the Experience Hendrix tours and tears up things like Voodoo Child with Satriani and others. I think that's great that Jimi's legacy means enough to him that he would participate.
you cant dislike someone who started everything about the guitar plugged in loud and cranked ; people today 2011 are still trying to get it and cant.
@ jgcaesar4 you take care too young fellow . I used too play the guitar at club's in the 1940's . The first club that I played was in 1941 (june 18th) I'd seen Muddy waters sitting the corner looking at me play. And... I showed off and layed my guitar, and he just smiled . That was the best moment. And I was the only white boy from england there.
@egamers1978 That's wonderful. Wish I had been there, but my mother wouldn't let me travel from Philly to Monterey when I seven years old.:-J Actually, didn't become a fan until ninth grade - 1974. All the best and take care.
I only got around to seeing this doc on PBS one night around 20 yrs ago and was blown away by the performances. I then set about finding the WB soundtrack album.
@swilliams070889 yep a jimified cover of rock me baby by bb king. bb king even took the lyrics from an older blues song rockin and rollin by lil'son jackson I think
I'm going straight to Justin Bieber with my "Machine Gun", after "Drifting" with pot. After shooting him and retrieve his "Bleeding Heart", I'll set "Fire" to my "Red House" and will "Hear my Train a Comin", in direction to the "Valleys of Neptune". I'll scream "Hey Joe" and she'll come down to meet me. We'll both enjoy the amazing "Purple Haze". Oww, if the dreams came true, this would "Rock me Baby".
@Laurentvb92 I know, but whoever rendered the video did not set the aspect ratio properly. Find the other versions of this video here at youtube and you'll see the way it should look.
The best version of this was at the Royal Albert Hall concert. but some damn music company wont allow it on youtube to protect their profiteering greed
It wasn't the amp, or axe, or efx, but some strange, un-understood, ENERGY that this man channeled. As a teen, watching the movie "Easy Rider", I never heard the song "6 was 9", but knew a little about Hendrix, and when those first chords blasted, I felt that was him, then knew it when the vocal kicked in!
@RastafariPoet Acid also came in tabs back in the 60's, (Google lsd tabs if you don't know what i mean) and still is today, although to a much lesser extent.
@RastafariPoet Umm, since acid tabs existed and since people soaked gum and other chewables in acid. though IDK why'd chew a tab, you're supposed to just let it sit on your tongue and melt from what I know.
@MistaaMojoRisin He is just chewing liquorice gum, no magic in that. These guys would have eaten acid before going on stage, who cares about doing it ON stage? Unless you make it a thing..
I'm 25 and I started listening to Hendrix when I was 18. His music gave me a whole different look on life. He may have had his faults, but no one is perfect. But to me his music was. I'm living proof that his music is timeless. He touched me with his music and i started listening to him 33 years after he died. His music is awesome and truly amazing. Long live JIMI "Voodoo Chile" Hendrix
