i know that criticism is never fun, but your workout is borderline awful. especially since you're training for parkour, you really need to work pulling motions (chin ups), leg strength, and grip strength.
and that "flow" thing was not martial arts, it was just embarrassing. go for a run instead.
@omarstrike Lol really? Pushups are almost the same as bench presses etc... You get my point? Just do other form of bench presses or chair dips... and there you have it: a bicep-tricep workout.
dude do you think this would eventually make me fit coz im nto like ultra fat but i dont have a 6 pack either, im 14 and im really into parkour i can only do around 45 press ups however XD
I just wanted to give you a quick tip. On your leg raises, your almost doing a knee up. You need to have a more controlled movement, otherwise you won't be isolating any specific muscle group. In this video you're using momentum to get your legs in the air. You want to use strictly muscle, or else you're just throwing your legs in the air. Also, when you raise your legs, bring them, roughly 36" above the ground, and when you lower them, bring them roughly 5" off the ground. Keep up the good work
Only managed to do 25 pushups then 10 of those leg raise thingy those were really hard i dont think i did it correct but i did 10 then i couldnt do those sofa situps so i did normal crunches then i just did 10 pushups ,
@corvette786 Depends how your shape is, have you trained much before?
I'm 15 and I take 100 sit ups and 50 push ups everyday, and that works fine for me. but i've done this for a year now.. but don't start with 50 push ups, if you not do this normal. start with 10 everyday and after some weeks you can raise the number. (my english is not soo good.. )
nice bro my goal is alway 200pushups with some other stuff like ab workouts and let know if u learned the form by watching a video or by a wushu class if not let me know what video lol thanks and i subed.alot of awesome tutorials
at around 2:44 (the push-up variations), at my school, diamonds are done with the legs more than shoulder-width apart, the knuckles-with-elbows-tucked-in push-ups are called military push-ups, except they're just done on the palms and not knuckles, and push-ups with the arms wide apart are called wide-fly push-ups. The most normal push-ups I can do nonstop is 60.
great job man. Though i have some advice on the pushups. Keep youre back straight, but push youre bottom up so that you can go down all the way.
The optimal is for youre chest to touch the ground in the downwardsmovement. And it SHALL touch it before any other aprt of youre torso, then go back up. and go down in a slow motion about 4seconds to give extreme microtension to the muscles, then explode up for explosiveness. These pushups will feel harder than the ones you do in this video.
props for doing 100 pushups. not everyone can get there. heres some advice tho, i used to do that "rest" exercise too. but its not as effective. the way your using your abdomen in that clip is in a more explosive-workout based manner. and even tho im for it, explosive is used on heavy weights, so ur underusing ur muscles since i no ur not reaaallly struggling with that exercise. i suggest the complete opposite actually.
There's no set standard. You should do what you can. When your arms get tired, and cannot do proper pushups any more, then that's about how many you should do. ;)
If you cant do the regular ones that is a good way to work your way to them. So, yeah although easier they are effective until you built up the strength.
I did 5 sets of 20 (to reset the camera angle), I didn't do 100 in a row. Do as many sets of 20 as you can. Next time, try to add another set. Slowly build up your goals.
Would you say that arms are some of the most important for doing parkour? That definitely seemed to be your emphasis in the video. I'm just wondering, because I'm working on getting in shape, and starting some free running/parkour. I know that "everything" is important, but what do you think is the MOST.
In my opinion the most important is back muscles, shoulder muscles, and knee-joint strength and toughness. Just check out the conditioning videos to get some ideas for movements to practice.
can anyone do parkour or freerunning cuz im 215 pounds and im not in mutch shape but im thiking on starting parkour cuz it looks reall fun and i seem 2 like it... what you guys think u think i can do it?
You need to diet along with exercise. Find a diet that works for you. Something simple. Swimming is one of the best forms of exercise for losing weight, as well.
Depends on your body type, not your age. I wouldn't suggest sit ups. Work on plank holds and length-related workouts for your abs. Do as many pushups as you can, there's no preset number.
heyy, does anyone know how to lose weight? llike jogging cuz iyd like to lose some, im a little big on the belly lool, and i tried sit ups, all they did was make it bigger, lool thanks
Explosion is not the only form of power needed. Long sets as you said work endurance and tone muscle. He is me, by the way, hah.
The nerves inside our knuckles are perfectly protected. I did some research after your comment, and all knuckle pushups do is condition your knuckles to withstand additional pressure. I've been studying martial arts for 8 years, so this has become simple habit for me. The reason I like them is the wrists are straight. From what I've read, knuckle is healthier than not
Improve your flexibility by basic stretching bro. Your Karate school should be able to show you some good stretches. As for strength training, there's infinite possibilities. This video shows you some arms and upper body stuff. Then you can do some squats and stuff. Do slow motion karate kicks for a nice workout. Also, low horsestances.
Pushups simulate the movements done in many Parkour movements, such as topping off wall climbs, many of the vaults, and qm type movements. Supporting your body weight with your arms comes in handy.
I'm curious how knuckle pushups are bad for you? I've been doing them for years now.
Yes, but doing 100 won't build the explosive strength you need. All it does is build endurance. He should be increasing the intensity instead (by moving his arms back toward his hips, instead of them being directly under his shoulders, or doing those clap push ups.).
Knuckle push ups fuck with your your joints and the nerves in your knuckles. At least that's what I've read, and been told. If you want to have your wrist in a neutral position then you should probably build parellettes.
hey man, I am in pretty good shape, and I would just like to know, how many push ups u do on everything? like sets of 10? 20? obviously the first one was 100, but how many breaks u take inbetween them? I can get about 45-50 out of me before I have to have a break, you look about the same as me, any advice on how to start parkour?
thats...insane xD; actually, im really interested in parkour, or free running. Though, i dont exactly have the best endurance (10 push ups and im out xD; ) and im looking for a good work out that could help me with this. any suggestions?
Then you shouldn't be worried about muscle training you should be worried about cardio shit. Because flexibillity is 10x more important than being muscular.
go for it ! at your age, it's a good time to start slowly devoloping and building up strength, stronger joints and endurance just because it takes so many years to make significant progress. If you start now and are consistent, by the time you're 17 or 18, you'll have all the strength and endurance you'll need to get you through. Not to mention the gains you'll be gaining every month!
I didn't. 50 in a row is very good. As Alaniaris said, just keep on trying to add a few pushups each time, and you'll get better at them and be able to do more.
I can't agree with that, but it's a great thing to do if you want to learn discipline and work out. I happen to believe it's a lousy martial art. But that's just an opinion. :)
I was leaning against the wall on 2:37, and that was just "flow", a kung fu thing, but it's very similar to Tai Chi. Lots of what is in that flow is also in Tai Chi. I was just moving, really. ;)
I can't even do 50! -_-

when at handstand pushups, try widening your arms from each other, which'll make you train the triceps a lot mor (i can do 15 now without a wall)
and when you do pushups, try not to lock em, in which i mean, when you go up, don't stretch your arms out so that your elbows luck.

all martial arts are great there is no "better" type it depends completely on the person
ushdr 3 years ago
i agree, martial arts are what you make of it
ramschamp317 3 years ago
True. But if your doing fucking capoera dancing stuff there isn't fuck you can make out of it compared to a guy taht does muay thai or wing chun.

can i do this im 13 and about to be 14
icefuel117 3 years ago
go for it ! at your age, it's a good time to start slowly devoloping and building up strength, stronger joints and endurance just because it takes so many years to make significant progress. If you start now and are consistent, by the time you're 17 or 18, you'll have all the strength and endurance you'll need to get you through. Not to mention the gains you'll be gaining every month!

Any good lat workouts?
jkar64 3 years ago
ooo and how often should u do this workout??
ParkourKid09 3 years ago
When you can. If you get sore from it, then wait until you heal up to do it again.
AdamMcC1572 3 years ago
do u do 100 push-ups in a row??
cos i can only do 50 in a row so i do 50 rest 50...is that ok???
ParkourKid09 3 years ago
u can reach 100 for example do 50 now for 10-15 days then after this put on 10 more so it goes 60 then after 10-15 days 70 and so on:D
Alaniaris8 3 years ago
I didn't. 50 in a row is very good. As Alaniaris said, just keep on trying to add a few pushups each time, and you'll get better at them and be able to do more.

was that a karate form you were doing to keep your heart rate up. and if so was it a kempo form?
ramschamp317 3 years ago
It was a flow, no predetermined form. Adam practices kung fu.
UrbanCurrent 3 years ago
ok thanks. it was pretty cool, love your videos btw. they are very helpfull
ramschamp317 3 years ago
I can promise you no karate form, especially Kempo, will ever look like that. ;)
AdamMcC1572 3 years ago
i take it you dont like kempo. lol. i think that although the forms in kempo might not be as articulate as that, it is still a great martial art.
ramschamp317 3 years ago
I can't agree with that, but it's a great thing to do if you want to learn discipline and work out. I happen to believe it's a lousy martial art. But that's just an opinion. :)

at 2:37 how do u keep ur balance. after sit ups u were doin tai chi? or, what was it
DKxSkate 3 years ago
I was leaning against the wall on 2:37, and that was just "flow", a kung fu thing, but it's very similar to Tai Chi. Lots of what is in that flow is also in Tai Chi. I was just moving, really. ;)
