While Im a great advocate of training in the wild.... there are many fungi that are perfectly acceptable to eat. HOWEVER, you must be sure of what it is that you are eating. No youtube video can show how to identify mushrooms properly, you need first hand experiance.
I learned quite quickly from a local native guide which were edible. Have yet to run into any issues.
I am concerned that the cut used at 2.40 is potentially dangerous. I teach that the holding hand should never be below the axe edge. If the wood split more easily than expected the axe could go straight into the hand. I would not normally comment but this is labeled as a tool safety video and people are clearly going to imitate the techniques. Otherwise good advice.
@robinturns It all looks dangerous to me. 1:28 he's got the edge facing his body while shifting his weight. 2:25 he's got the back of his hand toward the axe, should be the other way, if you hit the back of your hand with that thing you will lose the use of all fingers! Don't wipe the axe on your leg, if it cuts there you'll bleed to death in minutes. I also wouldn't swing an axe in the same plain as my genitals.
my trousers are made by craghoppers they are the nosquito version. the best trousers ive used i have 3 pairs all good as new used them for 4 years now worth the £35 price tag
I have that same exact axe. Gransfors Bruks makes top quality axes and I absolutely love the look and feel of the Small Forest Axe! The size and weight make it ideally suited for backpacking or cross-country excursions.
Your video is of equally good quality. I have learned many new things about how to use this wonderful tool safely, and keep it in great working condition. Thanks for the wonderful video and keep up the great work!
ye but youtube taks nearly all day to upload my vid quality as it is, i cant use any higher quality as it wont upload but yes my dvds will be in HDD its being shot with the SONY HANDYCAM HDD
But if he wants he could hire pro-video ,lighting, lenses & sound equipment, then employ a Cameraman, sound recordist, director of photography and so on ,not forgetting if he wants to record in Total darkness he could hire a High resolution low light camera and Infrared illuminators, now how much do you think that will cost..?

you should never, repeat NEVER, eat any form of fungi that grew in the wild. That is one of the number one rules of SERE school...

Where did you buy your cargo pants you're wearing with the knee reinforcements? And good axe safety tips.

you shouldnt have an opening that goes on for 40 secs there normally like 10 -15 secs! but apart from that great vid!!!
dingwei7 3 years ago
like i said its not just for youtube its for my dvd thats coming out
wall2rockclimber 3 years ago
i know but you should really make a distinction between the two. Youtube should be more of your sampler. Then the good stuff in your dvd's/
Not to sound rude but shouldnt the vid quality be higher for dvd?
nickynwong 3 years ago
I don't see a problem with the opening i think its good.
outdoorlife1992 3 years ago
Theres certainly nothing wrong with it. But for a 5min vid to have a 40sec intro is excessive. We love his vids and thats what we are here to see.
