the reason for no bass beat is because of the synthetic skins - they should have had goat skin on the base side - as to who is best - this should never be a question - Dhol is punjab and Punjab was split, the people and the traditions are still punjabi and we should appreciate both - one love!

@funeeq I have mentioned this before. The reason for the loss of bass is not the dhol skins. They would not be playing with flat dhols. It is the camcorder. The microphones on lesser video equipment does not pick loud bass. Its too loud and beyond the frequency range. That is why you get clicking sound instead of bass. 10 years ago I had the same problem with the camcorder I had.

Long ago I got round the problem with my old Panasonic video camera by adding a high quality extension mike. I've got 2 Panasonic digital camcorders now, they give fantastic crisp sound and great bass at any range. One of my cameras was used to film village dhol dance on you tube. key in 'Dheri Syedan', dhol at the end.

Im Indian-Punjabi,and sikh. I agree with wavavoom. The dhol is played in different styles, and almost every groups got their own style and flavour.
