People like Michael Moore make me feel love towards USA. I really hope Barack Obama becomes your next president. You deserve something better than what you've had for the last eight years.
The excerpt fom "Slacker Uprising" is not very beneficiary for Moore which is meaning well I am sure, but he has no idea. He is fostering the myth of the heroic soldier. There is nothing heroic about being in the armed forces. There are heroes in the army but most of them are just people who get fucked by the system so bad that they have nothing more to loose and not intelligent enough that this war is not worth fighting.
that didn't sound very rational, Rational. Moore's whole point in this CNN interview was his faith in the American people. He believes they're no more idiotic than what those who really run this country convince them they are. And heroic is a relevant term - for or against war or military, a soldier definitely stands for something; always has, always will. His fight is to wake up the people who are the rightful power holders and get them to bitch-slap those who stand against their rights.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but the party of racists is historically, the Democratic Party. And even today, they just can't seem to move beyond skin color and judge strictly on the content of character.
I respectfully disagree. Not enough room on YouTube to comment thoroughly, but the Democratic Party, in my opinion, have been race profiteers and race baiters, because they need the black vote. But what have they really done for minority groups? Read Wayne Perryman's "Unfounded Loyalty" for a clue on which party has a history of racism, and which doesn't. Of course, both parties are not exempt from flashes of racism here and there. Racists can be found in all political spectrums.
Republicans are certainly much more racist, I know the Republican party were abolitionist and their causes were noble. But that hasn't been the Republicans since Teddy Roosevelt. The Republican party of today is so removed from it's beginnings, that you can't even recognize the two. The founders of that party would be appalled with Presidents like Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush. When LBJ (Democrat) signed the civil rights bill, that's where the midwest and southern Republican boom came from.
LBJ signed it; but it took Republicans in Congress to get it through. According to Congressional Quarterly, only 61% of Democrats in the House of Representatives supported the act, while 80% of Republicans voted in favor. In the Senate, 69% of Democrats and 82% of Republicans voted in favor. Among the Democratic senators who voted against the legislation were J. William Fulbright (Bill Clinton's mentor), who was a racist.
I never claimed that Bush was racist, but he is prejudice, and I mean that as in financial class. Bush is the typical neocon when it comes to money, he could care less about the poor. Ronald Raygun on the other hand yes he was racist and fascist. Every single policy that he put in place was to benefit the rich, gut the middle class, and kill the poor. How about when he cut social security benefits of deceased parents to their offspring to help pay for college, I was personally caught in that one
What you seem to refer to is class warfare; it's not a "Bush" thing or a "neocon" thing. It's not that he is against the poor; he, like many conservatives, merely have a different ideology on how to make life better for everyone. Liberals seem to lean toward what constitutes as wealth redistribution. It impoverishes everyone. It's the rich who create jobs+ grow wealth; a bigger pie for all. Top 1% pay 40% of the tax burden. Bottom 50% of income earners pay from 2% to 0% of the tax burden.
And Bush has been rather liberal in spending programs on behalf of "the poor". His "no child left behind" was designed with poorly performing black and Hispanic kids in mind. His Cabinet is the most diverse in history. He's done more to fight disease and poverty in Africa than any other U.S. President, donating billions to fighting AIDS in Africa, alone.
Look at his position on immigration, to the consternation of the hard right conservatives.
How is Reagan, who signed the 25-year extension of 1965 Voting Rights Act, Civil Liberties Act of 1988, compensating Japanese-Americans for deprivation of civil rights and property during World War II internment ordered by FDR, establishes the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, to increase African-American participation in federal education programs, and MLK Day into law....how is he a racist?
I don't know much about cutting benefits for the offspring of the deceased; sorry you were personally affected. But Reagan didn't carry out his original intent on ss; in fact, ss expanded under his watch, with a $165 billion bailout. It was a very liberal thing for him to do.
I know that I come here to rattle a few cages, and vent, it's something to do having to live out of a suitcase almost 10 months out of the year. But this I'm sure we can agree on, whoever wins this election, we not only as Americans but human beings need to put aside petty differences, partisanship, cultural divides, and economical divides and come together not only for the good of our nation, but for the good of us that make up the nation. Believe me when I say that the power is really ours.
Spoken like a true patriot. It's a blessing to be able to live where we can debate and disagree, and still acknowledge each other as fellow Americans, at the end of the day.
Here's hoping that after the election, whatever the outcome, we can remember that we are one people.

The Canadian health care system is set up better than the American one, BUT have you ever been to a hospital in Canada?? Majority of them are on the level of those in a 3rd world country.
Being a Canadian, I have been in Canada's hospitals many times and I wouldn't say they are "on the level of those in a 3rd world country" at all. Our hospitals benefit from modern equipment, but the main problem is a lack of doctors (many flee to the USA for better salaries and working conditions). Our healthcare system is not by any means a perfect system but we do get treated properly. Our hospitals aren't luxurious, but we understand that they're not meant to be hotels anyway.
wtf are you talking about? another fucking ignorant american who thinks canadians live in igloos. do you think our hospitals are made of straw huts or something. get over yourself.
Well, actually I did more than that, my HMO that I paid $90,000 to denied my needed hip operation, denied over the doctor's urging by a 24 year old high school grad clerk in the centrla office. Rather than paying $60,000 for it I went to St Petersburg Russia for it and had a GREAT experience with wonderul care, all for $5,800 for a total hip replacement. The US system is the worst in the world if you are not rich.
