I remembering watching an unsolved mysteries episode when the Belgium Air Force sent fighter jets to fire at a UFO. Every time they locked on the UFO would speed off range and then come back towards the jets like it was playing some kind of game. It was kinda cool and disturbing at the same time. That's the one thing that always bugged me about this movie, this was before they knew the aliens had shields...so where are the B52 trying to carpet bomb the fuck out of the ships? Where are the cruise missiles and ground launched weapons?

If I were the one ordering the counter attack I'd have had B-52 bombers, AC-130 Spectre Gunships, A-10s, Apaches, and fighters all raining fire down on the ship, not to mention artillery fire pointed straight upwards - 105mm and 155mm cannons, plus as many MLRS launchers as I could find, even tanks, just point their gun barrels up at the ship and have at it.
