its 2011. Most of the gen y people I know have washed out on drugs. They're not taking over shit. They're probably going to move back home from school. College debt exceeds over 1 trillion dollars. Generation x and its treatment has instilled discipline which makes us unstoppable compared to gen y. It takes aprox 2 to 3 gen y to get a job done that one x can do. They're pampered as a whole. I didn't apply for the new opening because I dont want to manage them. Hey honey job fair at Mc Donalds..
Not all Y's are "confident, and capable" as some people claim.
A lot of Y's have the same tendencies as their "X-predecessors".. they want all the luxury and ease the world has to offer, but are not willing to spend any effort on it.
Some Y's will not make anymore money then the minimum wage, while others will continue to have a wealthy life. It has always been this way.
The only things that really are evolved are technology and social interaction.. (which is given to them by gen X)
-and "class", and other 80s values. Once our alternative values became the norm, we spent a lot of effort. We made a whole new world.
We made a boom that felt like the 40s and 60s combined. Gen Y doesn't even know it happened. They think facebook is interesting. A copy of a copy of an idea, rebranded to make someone more "popular" in school. To me that's all very Gen Y.
Things were evolving fast for a while, before the neo-80s came.
Generation x sucks because they are the group that messed up the economy, voted for president Bush and make it harder for Gen Y to find jobs because of it. Us Gen Y'ers are more liberal both politically and socially and more accepting towards others. We have better people skills and work good in teams. We grew up with technology that you older guys never had. We also had more diversity and more cultural experiences.
@araya1 And to top it all off, they blame us for it and even resent us! What a bunch of crappy, whiny, shitheads.
I have a feeling that the corporations started this sht to turn us all against each other, divide and conquer is the most simply strategy of business. The sad part is that people actually buy this shit and say hateful things they don't even understand.
LATEST WAY TO GET CASH=TEACH BABY BOOMERS WHAT RESPECT IS AND WHAT ITS NOT............ITS NOT PUSHING YOUR BELIEFS AND EXPERIENCES OFF ONTO OTHER PEOPLE AND EXPECTING THEM TO HAVE YOUR SAME OPINIONS. ITS NOT GIVING GROWN ASS PEOPLE TOYS.
YEA BUILDING M&M REALLY FUKN GETS ME GOING. HI IM HEAR TO FILL OUT AN APPLICATION CAN I HAVE SOME FUKN M&M TOYS TO PLAY WITH, OH YEA I NEED PHONE BREAKS CONSTANTLY AND I DONT UNDERSTAND YOU WHEN YOU TELL ME I CANT TALK ON MY PHONE AT WORK. OH YEA HOW LONG TIL I CAN BECOME A MANAGER.
Spoiled? My mother came from nothing and got something so her kids (my sister and I) didn't have to go threw the same. What the fuck type of parent are you in you want your kid to go threw the same BS experiences as you? If you ask me ,Gen X is the f*cked up ones...Crack Epidemic, LA Riot, Cheap ass Regan, Beat It Jacket, Moving from West Philly to Bel Air hatin' asses, LOL :D, I'm kidding but it's the truth.
@PhreShPimpCeSS Exactly...lol. I love how not having a crackwhore mother=spoiled. My parents didn't beat the shit out of me, so that means I'm spoiled. Those are the words of jealous men.
@sylicone221 Or...beating the shit out of your kids...
My dad had the absolutely SHIT beaten out of him, that's what I'm talking about. I was spanked if I was naughty, but I wasn't hit or smacked, or beaten.
@sylicone221 To blame people who were children during the 90s, is like blaming a rape victim for being raped.
You are an ignorant fool and I am done talking to you. I feel sorry for your ignorant life and wish you could be intelligent, knowledgeable, and free thinking. I am annoyed by your annoying, useless ranting and will not sit here and listen to it anymore. Grow up. Your words are so childishly written on this board and I can't bring myself to take them seriously. Most of all, get a life.
@Sshelly34213 just like a good political debate....others have said it....so hey..if your one of those FEW that arent so 'entitled'........did you even watch this video?
@sylicone221 It's not a good political debate, it's a shitty one. Politics has to do with your US senate fucking you over so they can have a wealthy lifestyle for life while you get peanuts. They then proceed to watch you scapegoat every person NOT responsible for this.
Seriously, my advice for next election day: Vote for the person who wasn't in Senate last time. That is the only way you'll change things in Washington. If they know they can't push us around and keep a job, that's something.
@TheAAdropout Shit shit shit. I grew up in the ghetto and was constantly told we couldn't afford anything. Generation Y were born in the 80s and 90s, we grew up during recessions, how on earth can we be spoiled? Actually kids of the 60s and 70s were loaded, boomers and Xers got everything they wanted.
@sylicone221 Well I'm glad we agree on something, if anyone was lazy it was those fuckers. They never had to work a hard day's life, they were just given top positions.
@sylicone221 Go apply for a job with little experience and go see how quickly you'll get a reply. I just can't have a conversation with an ignorant person, you're too frustrating and I really don't give a shit about your meaningless opinion and your useless contribution to society.
@Sshelly34213 ok, i probably sound like a baby boomer not a gen x.....lol.....someone here said gen x and y are more similar than you and baby boomers...hmm....ok....i was just saying, would you accept a fast food job?
@sylicone221 If everything is perfectly fine and dandy in your life, you would NOT be here complaining about the youth of the country and world. If your life were perfectly and dandy, you would not be complaining at all. From this I must conclude that you are miserable and self loathing, that is not my fault so stop trying to blame me for that.
@Sshelly34213 Very true! Gen Y has been left out in the cold employment wise, they inherited a rececssion headed for a depression and college degrees that are absolutley worthless, you where lied to we all where lied to. I'm a late Xer born in 79. I can't blame you guys you where left with nothing but 2 wars and a bankrupt jobless economy and then past Generations turn around and expect you to fix it with out the tools are the know how.
@DIJV79 Thanks, it's good to see that someone out there doesn't get caught up in the made up hate my gen. gets. It's not like they can fix the mess they created either...so who are they to judge? All we really can do is wait out this recession. Here's hoping it gets better in the next couple of years.
The sad thing about our "worthless" degrees, is that the cost is about a 200% increase from what the boomers/Xers had to pay. All that wasted money.
@Sshelly34213 Yes! My cousin graduated from Berkley and he's 70,000 in the hole, thats just unsustainable for someone in their 20's heading out in life and you can't file bankruptcy you have to payoff college loans theres know way around it.
@DIJV79 That's insane! Isn't Berkley public too? I want to go to University of Rhode Island and it's 30,000 a year. I'm a transfer and was smart enough to get my general credits and associate's degree at a community college, but I still have 2-3 years left! Altogether...that's 90,000 dollars. I could buy a nice condo with that money, which makes the idea of education seem a little more unimportant, considering that it's like buying a lifetime mortgage.
@DIJV79 I could see funding for these colleges doubling, heck, even tripling, but they are going way beyond that. It's all about greed, the boomers wanted to be rich and they got it at the price of everyone else. Generation X is really just trying to find a place to fit in while trying to get at least something for themselves. I'm not sure how much of the blame rests on their shoulders, but I can't imagine some of them not using the naivety of the boomers to cash in big time.
@Sshelly34213 Gen Xers had jobs after college in abundance, their the ones fighting and scraping to keep what they have and alot of late Xers like myself upon completeion of high school we had know problems finding good employment, you actually could get a job that payed well and allowed you to move out. Especially out here in So.Cal jobs use to be abundent. People would call you just to ask you if you wanted to work.
@DIJV79 Damn that's crazy! I have applied everywhere, from the lowest qualifications to as high as I could go and I haven't heard anything. I just don't think anyone gives a shit about hiring other people. I remember a few years back applying for a job with an online profile and I actually got a call back. So people really aren't hiring.
It sucks because I want to get on with my life, but I'm stuck.
@Sshelly34213 Yup! California is not any better, the East Coast is starting to feel the effects of economic decline. Its not pretty out here in Cali the Mexicans are even leaving because theres no jobs.
@Sshelly34213 I am Gen X and lost my job last week, back when i first started working you didn't need to be as qualified as it seems you need to be today. It's a tough world at the moment, but how are you going anyway trying to find work 2 months on? I am assuming you are a Gen Y?
@blade004 Oh man, it's pretty bad. I received an email from Dunkin Donuts right after I applied to them on Snag a job.com, "You are not qualified for this position" ...I worked there before for the same job that I applied for! What are they looking for? These absurd "qualifications" are just invented in my opinion. You also have to take these brainless tests, I swear to go this was a real question I was asked: "Your coworkers would say you were the best they've ever worked with"
@Sshelly34213 Oh god I hate those damn Internet applications. I'm 20, still trying to find a job after not working in 2 years and all these damn pointless questions aren't worth it.
@araya1 No they're hilariously bad! I was actually asked this question on a test once: "Would your coworkers say you were the best person they've ever worked with?" 1. Talk about over eager, I'm supposed to be "The Best?" 2. Yes because that's how society works, we all praise another person and put them ahead of ourselves...3. Why would I still be talking to my coworkers?
I mean these questions are mindlessly stupid, they're pointless in the long run just Ugh. They leave a bad taste in my mouth
@blade004 I mean it's just absurd...I thought being alive would at least get me an interview with these people and they're discarding my application the second I give it to them?? What is going on here, it's like madness. I already felt way overqualified just for being a human being with a reasonable amount of intelligence-as well as an associate's degree-but no dice.
And yes I am a part of Generation Y.
Sorry you lost your job, I wish you much better luck than I am currently having!
@Sshelly34213 I know what those tossers are doing, they are looking at your CV and thinking to themselves that you are over qualified for that position and because you are over qualified they don' t believe you are going to stick around due to your qualifications because you have the ability to move onto something bigger and better. But then you also said before that even when you go for something much higher up you "still" aren't given a chance!!
@blade004 That's a possibility, thanks for the encouragement. It's so easy to become jaded after awhile of being utterly rejected for almost 2 years by every place you apply to. I think it may be easier to get a job once I get back to university in the fall. They offer jobs on campus and after I finish I'll try doing internships to build up my experience.
That is completely the case, people talk about the "elites" in this country...well what do you think these corporate CEOs are?
@Sshelly34213 It's almost as if you need to be born into a family that owns a major corporation or have rich parents that will buy your way through life, but for the majority of us, myself and yourself included that just isn't the case. I do "believe" you will get your break, because although its much harder for you now, it was difficult for me when i was younger as well to secure myself somewhere. Continue your pursuit, its only a matter of time!! Chin up Sshelly :)
@nevasnitch Don't fall their crap, they want to collect us and try to mold us. Using a group name allows them to do that, but we need to turn away from them and their crappy ideals.
@Sshelly34213 see, thats the problem with gen y MORONS, they want to come in and do what THEY want, wear the clothing THEY want in the workplace, and be able to fucking come and go as they please! thats what I mean by spoiled, not how your parents raised you, but how you act in the workplace and what you expect, like you expect a raise after 2 weeks.....
@sylicone221 Wow you're PAINFULLY ignorant and stupid. There is no hope for you, there's just none.
I feel sorry for you.
You don't fucking know what I expect...just stop embarrassing yourself.
No I don't care about raises and bullshit like that because I don't want to be a wage slave grasping onto any opportunist chance I can get to please my boss. Sadly Generation X have become wage hounds and brown nosers all for the chance at reaching the top. I don't think it's worth it.
@sylicone221 People in my generation work, what the fuck are you talking about? your generation was called a SLACKER generation in the 90s, what did you forget that? I'm so sick of arguing with you and really just feel sorry for you. You're probably overweight, undersexed, and working at wallmart.
@sylicone221 FUCK yes, I've been applying everywhere, I just applied at Borders last night mother fucker. NO ONE is hiring, people rarely hire in general, unless you want to work for a year and then get your hours taken away. The only jobs offered for regular people are shit, fast food/service jobs. If you want an actual job, you have to get an education. Right now I'm in the middle of getting an education. Stop lecturing me you old fucker.
@Sshelly34213 so you wont take a fast food job while attending college? are u in shape? maybe u can strip....and just cuz someone is older dont mean theyre overweight, are there any gen y ppl that are not perfect shape
@sylicone221 Guess what Sherlock, you allowed yourself to be fucked over by politicians who told you trickle down was a logical theory. Who told you that massive tax cuts for the 1% wealthy were perfectly fine and that it was actually anti American to tax them.
You allowed Bush to get elected, where I was only 11 FUCKING years old. You allowed the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to escalate to the level they are and to deepen our debt with useless spending. You bought houses with a high mort.
@sylicone221 I don't know and I really don't care. The average people are as dumb and ignorant as they've always been. That's how society works. leaders and opportunists take advantage of the apathy of the average folk and you're not going to change that. My generation will have a similar apathy, and the generation after that and blah blah blah. I'm really sick of bitching about this stuff, it's not getting me a job and it's not making me feel better.
@Sshelly34213 ok, just saying, its not only me, i didnt make this up.....younger people like you are lazy fuckers, expect the good jobs when you are still in college....go be a stripper....unless your fat
@sylicone221 There's nothing else going on in the suburbs, there are no docks near my house, no one is doing construction work, so Borders and Dunkin Donuts are my options. Believe me I'm trying like a mother fucker, I don't want a handout, I just want an opportunity to make some money.
What a load of rubbish, I didn't even grow up with a Christmas tree. A lot of my friends grew up in single parent households with little money,
This shit is painful to listen to just because it's so stupid. Everyone on this board making judgments on generation Y is a dumb piece of shit. You people have no idea of what you're talking about.
It's really painful to listen to people tell me what I'm supposed to be like.
Why don't you just fucking ask my generation what we're like? There is a difference between being a raised a certain way and what you end up believing. Were baby boomers anything like the way their parents wanted them to be? Certainly not.
So anyone who's not a part of my generation, shut the fuck up.
@Sshelly34213 its a fact, gen y has RUINED OUR ECONOMY, cuz they want to spend fucking money that they fucking DONT HAVE, thats why we had that fucking crash dipshit
@sylicone221 No it isn't, if so then give me some facts.
Actually it's a fact that baby boomers and Generation X ruined the economy. My generation is not even in charge or in power, we were not in any position to control the spending the US senate made, nor were we in control of the spending wall street made.
@sylicone221 LAMO, gen y are not the ones buying houses they cant afford, thats all gen x, and all the bank CEOs throwing money down the drain are the baby boomers
@Sshelly34213 english is my first language, and where do you get this info....gen y are DUMB and STUPID! yeah, theyr'e technical savvy but that doesnt make them smart or competent to do real work
@sylicone221 You could have fooled me, you can't speak proper English to save your life.
AGAIN, HIGHEST SAT SCORES, Should I get some sort of professional social worker to try to explain this to you? I understand that you have special needs, but that is no excuse to not comprehend my posts.
@sylicone221 No one fucking said that, when have you heard my generation, anyone from my generation make such a statement? Do you know anyone just out of college around my age? I very much doubt that you do and you're just watching angry videos to add some sort of pathetic meaning to your life. You think that by blaming a generation who hasn't had any ability to have the power to cause the economic recession, you'll "solve the problem."
@Sshelly34213 its more that they expect the world handed to them, they wont take the 'real' work type of jobs such as mickey d's. etc.....the 'shit' jobs you mentioned!
What is "real work?" No one works at docks anymore, no one is building shit so construction is out. What is "real work??" Real work in society today is teaching, nursing, social work, etc...
You're talking about a world that doesn't even exist anymore, the only place an inexperience and uneducated person can get a job involves food and cleaning. That's about it really. You can be a janitor for a fast food place or work at one.
@Sshelly34213 and you wont take a job like that? see what i mean, gen x an previous generations did those shitty jobs....for a lot less than what some pay now!
@Sshelly34213 my cousin does construction work, he lives in canada, much harder for women, but men cant be strippers now can they? hehehee.......would u take that job?
@sylicone221 Like I said, go see for yourself how difficult it is. Go apply to every job, online-which is what the expect you to do now, god forbid they should talk to people face to face, with only 1 or 2 jobs of experience, and see how far you get. I've been looking for a job since the crash, that's 2 years..
@Sshelly34213 its always been that way, been there and done that when i was younger than you! did you get fired from your jobs? your fucked...until you finish college, or go be a stripper
@sylicone221 Don't talk to me, I've blocked you. Suggesting that I go into stripping is extremely creepy and I don't feel like dealing with weird ass people on the internet right now.
Well, I was born in 84 and attended a public school. I never received a "thanks for participating" trophy for any event. Sounds like previous generations make up this BS in order to justify paying sh** salaries to recent college grads. The average gen-y earns a starting salary of 40% less than the previous generation when you adjust for inflation. But they're so spoiled, lol.
Absolutely! That is an excellent point. Our generation get paid LESS starting out, and nowadays just to get a good job out of college requires unpaid internships regardless of where you got your degree. There's both academic inflation (which is terrible) and a decision to value experience over academic credentials (good, but in this context difficult)..so you still need them, but they are worth less than before because they are standard.
@aegisforex Exactly. Bingo, we have a winner. Someone has finally figured out their evil plan. They want to put us in a collective group to try and keep us down.
But interesting enough the movement of women and black persons are POWER. The progression of both diverse pieaces of the pie have won. There cause has moved into the top spot and are at there full front of controling the market.
My biggest concern is privacy, Google earth is getting pretty close, I'm at risk
what would you like to see happen in the next 100 years ( ? ) Think progressive in the world's time line. You want it, we will try and make it happen. Baby booms and Generation X gave us everything. I was born in 1989 right when the internet came out. Think BIG!
Hint: Marxism has not been lost in the sands of time.
@plan101 1997 was the actual begining of the information age I was a junior in high school the internet had just begun to be intergrated into the public school system. 1989 the berlin wall came down and the cold war was over, the industrial age ended and we began are downfall into a service based economy and thats what your seeing today.
i believe we are doomed... i also think we are not creative... listen to the music these days.... i believe we are superficial... i dont really know what this lady is talking about really... yeah we grew up with networking... . money is not the answer... we hide behind our ipods facebook ect.. and now are to scared to talk to eachother... well i believe we are missing out
Yes I did and I haven't changed my mind. You tried to specify that you didn't think you were special and thus unlike your generation but the whole comment in itself works against you.
Many Gen Y'ers don't have a shoot for the stars mentality , you're just the lazy, crappy depressing types. And your not much different than the majority of optimistic idiots and Aspies.
I also think your lacking in comprehension of your own writing.
ok so I read all of your comments and unfortunately I have to agree with most of what you said. I'm a gen Yer and think the majority of me Gen are pathetic. Just know that there are a few gen Yers who do have older mentalities and not all of them are on the net 24/7.
I also agree with Shelvade91 and Muse4life, im gen Y and i think we are doomed. we all want the quick and easy way out, and it will be our demise. but it's not really our fault we were raised like this. its just how it goes.
I don;t think Gen Y is doomed if we can harness our creativity to make the workforce more efficient we'll be able to change how business is ran and how we award success. You can't buy into the harsh reality BS we're practical and connected we know there's a starting point and and ending point we just think we can get there faster by being more efficient about it. I'm not saying this applies across the board to everyone but social networking is a good indicator.
@bluemind423 Good point, i guess it is easy to be pessimistic. I also think in each generation there are going to be changes, and some will be good and others will be not so good. But at the end of the day the world will keep going around.
lindsay pollak is very cute and sweet and that is exactly why she is successful - she is rich, educated, and very articulate. she is in her early 30's and still is not married - no kids. she is a typical white woman in post-feminist america: childless, ambitious, and well-prepared for a female dominated nation. the tide is turning rapidly. at my workplace, the vast majority are women and we employ several hundred people. the greater female empowerment in a society, the lower birth rates....
for any society that is a recipe for downfall. whether through conquest from stronger forces or through displacement through declining population. gen y kids will take us even further into the grave. i feel disgusted when i meet educated white women at my workplace who have no plans for children or who talk about adopting 'foreign' babies. they are the most selfish women on earth. travel the world and you will see that american women are the most selfish on the planet.
And guess who raised those Gen Y kids? You guessed it, post-feminist shit-for-brains American whimmin who victimized their sons into a bunch of limp-wristed grass eating helpless vaginas.
White whimmin in the workplace is the reason for the lack of quality in the American workforce. Stupid selfish fat dykes are too busy clumsily text messaging on their cell phones to care about anything.
The American white female is the bottom of the barrel when it comes to dating, avoid them like the plague.
I repeat things I hear when they're true, yes. Does that mean they lose validity? No, shut the fuck up. Typical female way of thinking. Look, I don't care what tier of Europe your from or how Aryan you are, I still think you're a piece of dirt.
And the rest of my generation is optimistic and stupid, someone needs to do it.
You've got it wrong libtard. For one Lindsay Pollack is fat and ugly, any man who finds her attractive has no standards and needs to be severely beaten with a lead pipe.
She's smart but she's no different from any other fat misandrist lesbian dyke, all textbook knowledge, no introspection. Whimmin like this regurgitate whatever crap they read out of a Sociology textbook so she can keep her mid-level shit-for-brains job that she calls a career. Discussion over.
And the hippy movement? What the fuck is that abomination about? How is being a fucking pacifist wanker living in a commune and getting high going to do for anything or anyone? I think the "Baby Boomer Generation" have a lot to answer for. Being a Hipster is the pinnacle of Liberalism, and history has proven to me that Liberalism is a fucking failure. This is not victim mentality - This is based on facts, facts most of you greedy "Baby Boomers" can't even comprehend.
Nah, i think that the hippys were just a small few of the baby boomers. At least most of the Baby boomers weren't raised with so many rules and regulations that us young people have these days, ontop of too many movies and video games to make us anti social and lazy, us Gen Y have shit too easy and now that we are getting into the work force more, we don't wanna do the shitty jobs that our baby boomer parents would have done regardless. We wanna be at the top before we start at the bottom.
And for the others here, if you are not X, then you are definitely "Baby Boomers" and as it seems to me, now that Y's are old enough - all you are doing now is pointing the finger of fail upon us. What is worst, being a failure or raising people to become failures? I know which one is worst. I am the coming of a generational rut and I know it. Most people I know my age are word for word exactly what people say here, and it sickens me. I don't want to be like that and I will not.
Well, as a "Millenial" - I think some of you have a point. I know for fact this isn't a nature vs. nuture debate because I think our parents the "Baby Boomers" have clearly failed in raising us. As a Gen Y, I do possess many of these qualities - but not all of them. And shelivade91 - you're a fucking idiot, your opinion counts for nothing.
Gen Y will not be capable of raising the next gen of children. abortion rates will continue to skyrocket as they are already and youth suicide will be made even more fashionable by the incideous media.
Is it just me or does it seem like something majorly terrible is forcast for the very near future. the west crumbles under the weight of a fattened success. and we all fall DOWN... 100 yrs from now the cultural landscape will be almost unrecognizable, comrade.
abortion rates are up, suicide rates are skyrocketing, white birth rates are declining, the minority population is increasing exponentially, women are attending universities at increasingly greater rates than men, educated women have fewer children, college graduation rates are declining in comparison to other advanced nations....the united states is falling fast. the u.s. is what it is because of the population who founded it. when they are gone, the u.s.a. will cease to exist.
That doesn't mean there will ever be a Lesbian run society, they can get all the credentials they want, their gender keeps them on a leash. Men control everything.
Generation y is the progeny of feminism and the biggest social disaster since Betty Friedan and cured beef jerky.
Like the fascist whomyn who raised them, they rely on strength in numbers rather than strength in self.
Liberal? Yes, they vote liberal but anyone with a politically incorrect attitude who isn't race mixing, driving an eco-friendly plastic piece of shit, or marching down Eureka Valley covered in glitter is automatically labeled as a racist, a sexist, or a chauvinist. Pathetic.
She's forgetting that Generation Y has abysmal communication skills, they can't take risks, they can't manage a company, they can't compose music, they can't act, they can't create shit, and most of all they can't rebel because their parents are always shooting rocks up their ass when they try to have fun.
Just wait until Japan comes and fucks these kids up the ass. It's going to be a fucking riot.
victimhood. yes you are right. gen y have brought us 'tolerance' and 'inclusion'. the whole idea that everything must be equal and fair, life is supposed to be fun and enjoyable, nothing should ever be uncomfortable. they love the idea of being a victim 'you make me uncomfortable' is their favorite tactic, and then they expect to be accomodated in the workplace to ensure their comfort. i can't even imagine what the next generation will be like.
i hope jackson is getting used to his new accomodations down south. that whole family is sick and twisted. they are nothing but a freakshow spawned out of the post baby boomer gen x rebellion. then the hippies and communists who rebelled shat out gen y, the most self-centered, egotistical, and lazy in american history.
they only want to do something if it's 'fun' and only think about what makes them happy. they say things like 'if you don't like it here why don't you just move to paris?' or 'why don't you get a job as a VP?' it's that i can do whatever i want mentality. i work at a lib. arts college and students will do or say the most outrageous things and still think they can get ahead, get recommendations etc.
i am right on the cusp of gen x/gen y and i absolutely hate working with gen y. gen y kids only care about what they are doing. twitter is a perfect example of gen y selfishness. they believe every aspect of their lives are unique and significant. they do not care if others have more experience or knowledge than them. they make statements like 'i didn't know what i wanted to do after college so i decided to move to new york and take an executive job' as if that were an obvious outcome.
1:59 "Everyone got a trophy". What a bunch of pussies. Mommy Mommy! Look at my 8th place trophy, duh it's shiny!
Generation Y, stop talking to your doofus ass co-worker and take my order! No, I dont want any onions on that and no I don't want to super size,Shit!
I'll go deeper. As the middle class dwindles, Gen Y will redefine poor and rich. There will be super smart ones and ultra dumb ones. Most will have a complete lack of couth regardless of income. These waifs are almost totally aloof.
Exactly, they're like 5 year olds. They all have a shoot for the stars mentality because they were spoon fed by single mothers who never taught them what it meant to earn something, no one lost when you were a kid in the 90's, everyone got a "thanks for participating" trophy from the elite, to females, to minorities, and all the way down to the crippled kid wearing a back brace
And with the middle class goes American culture as we knew it, here comes 1st world communism. So much for the 1980's.
Generation Y are painful. They are lazy and needy. The thing that she needed to touch on is KICKING THEM UP THE ARSE ! Who cares about M&M's and ipods and facebook. What a load of shit. Grow up and get real . Sad generation of wannabes.
@kidsgrove4 ok 1st things 1st, Gen X was called lazy and needy by the baby boomers, 2nd, Gen Y didnt send the economy down the crapper or start all these wars and the monopoly driven world we live in. Gen Y now has to clean all this up, we have new ideas relevent to the time, we feel strongly about civil rights unlike raceist gens before us. And Facebook is a tool of communication, you know, like the TV or Telephone!? Gen X and the boomers are the ones that need to grow up.

@sarin82 Gen X was a rebellion against luxury.

@araya1 Wrong.
For one: if you're 20 you're more like us than Gen Y, in my experience. Their era was 98-08.
1. We built the economy; they took it for granted. We wanted change; they wanted stock options.
2. We're the liberal 90s. They're the con 0s.
3. We think it's cool to be unique; they think it's cool to belong. For us "nerd" is a funny compliment.
4. Y'all do have better team skills. What's it accomplished?
5. Gen Y grew up with tech and diversity (and more) yet they act like 80s kids.

Sshelly34213 1 year ago
@Sshelly34213 Very true! Gen Y has been left out in the cold employment wise, they inherited a rececssion headed for a depression and college degrees that are absolutley worthless, you where lied to we all where lied to. I'm a late Xer born in 79. I can't blame you guys you where left with nothing but 2 wars and a bankrupt jobless economy and then past Generations turn around and expect you to fix it with out the tools are the know how.
DIJV79 1 year ago
@DIJV79 Thanks, it's good to see that someone out there doesn't get caught up in the made up hate my gen. gets. It's not like they can fix the mess they created either...so who are they to judge? All we really can do is wait out this recession. Here's hoping it gets better in the next couple of years.
The sad thing about our "worthless" degrees, is that the cost is about a 200% increase from what the boomers/Xers had to pay. All that wasted money.
Sshelly34213 1 year ago
@Sshelly34213 Yes! My cousin graduated from Berkley and he's 70,000 in the hole, thats just unsustainable for someone in their 20's heading out in life and you can't file bankruptcy you have to payoff college loans theres know way around it.
DIJV79 1 year ago
@DIJV79 That's insane! Isn't Berkley public too? I want to go to University of Rhode Island and it's 30,000 a year. I'm a transfer and was smart enough to get my general credits and associate's degree at a community college, but I still have 2-3 years left! Altogether...that's 90,000 dollars. I could buy a nice condo with that money, which makes the idea of education seem a little more unimportant, considering that it's like buying a lifetime mortgage.
Sshelly34213 1 year ago
@DIJV79 I could see funding for these colleges doubling, heck, even tripling, but they are going way beyond that. It's all about greed, the boomers wanted to be rich and they got it at the price of everyone else. Generation X is really just trying to find a place to fit in while trying to get at least something for themselves. I'm not sure how much of the blame rests on their shoulders, but I can't imagine some of them not using the naivety of the boomers to cash in big time.
Sshelly34213 1 year ago
@Sshelly34213 Gen Xers had jobs after college in abundance, their the ones fighting and scraping to keep what they have and alot of late Xers like myself upon completeion of high school we had know problems finding good employment, you actually could get a job that payed well and allowed you to move out. Especially out here in So.Cal jobs use to be abundent. People would call you just to ask you if you wanted to work.
DIJV79 1 year ago
@DIJV79 Damn that's crazy! I have applied everywhere, from the lowest qualifications to as high as I could go and I haven't heard anything. I just don't think anyone gives a shit about hiring other people. I remember a few years back applying for a job with an online profile and I actually got a call back. So people really aren't hiring.
It sucks because I want to get on with my life, but I'm stuck.

blade004 1 year ago
@blade004 Oh man, it's pretty bad. I received an email from Dunkin Donuts right after I applied to them on Snag a job.com, "You are not qualified for this position" ...I worked there before for the same job that I applied for! What are they looking for? These absurd "qualifications" are just invented in my opinion. You also have to take these brainless tests, I swear to go this was a real question I was asked: "Your coworkers would say you were the best they've ever worked with"
Sshelly34213 1 year ago
@Sshelly34213 Oh god I hate those damn Internet applications. I'm 20, still trying to find a job after not working in 2 years and all these damn pointless questions aren't worth it.
araya1 11 months ago

Sshelly34213 1 year ago
@Sshelly34213 I know what those tossers are doing, they are looking at your CV and thinking to themselves that you are over qualified for that position and because you are over qualified they don' t believe you are going to stick around due to your qualifications because you have the ability to move onto something bigger and better. But then you also said before that even when you go for something much higher up you "still" aren't given a chance!!
blade004 1 year ago
@blade004 That's a possibility, thanks for the encouragement. It's so easy to become jaded after awhile of being utterly rejected for almost 2 years by every place you apply to. I think it may be easier to get a job once I get back to university in the fall. They offer jobs on campus and after I finish I'll try doing internships to build up my experience.
That is completely the case, people talk about the "elites" in this country...well what do you think these corporate CEOs are?
Sshelly34213 1 year ago
@Sshelly34213 It's almost as if you need to be born into a family that owns a major corporation or have rich parents that will buy your way through life, but for the majority of us, myself and yourself included that just isn't the case. I do "believe" you will get your break, because although its much harder for you now, it was difficult for me when i was younger as well to secure myself somewhere. Continue your pursuit, its only a matter of time!! Chin up Sshelly :)

But they're so spoiled, lol.
aegisforex 1 year ago 13
@aegisforex

They want to put us in a collective group to try and keep us down.

what would you like to see happen in the next 100 years ( ? ) Think progressive in the world's time line.

Sounds pretty Gen Y to me. Most of them are borderline lazy and have standard expectations of themselves and think their special and different.
You ARE like your generation. At least I think you are.

Regards.

ok so I read all of your comments and unfortunately I have to agree with most of what you said. I'm a gen Yer and think the majority of me Gen are pathetic. Just know that there are a few gen Yers who do have older mentalities and not all of them are on the net 24/7.
Muse4life05 2 years ago 4
I also agree with Shelvade91 and Muse4life, im gen Y and i think we are doomed. we all want the quick and easy way out, and it will be our demise. but it's not really our fault we were raised like this. its just how it goes.
58jtaylor 2 years ago
I don;t think Gen Y is doomed if we can harness our creativity to make the workforce more efficient we'll be able to change how business is ran and how we award success. You can't buy into the harsh reality BS we're practical and connected we know there's a starting point and and ending point we just think we can get there faster by being more efficient about it. I'm not saying this applies across the board to everyone but social networking is a good indicator.
bluemind423 2 years ago
@bluemind423 Good point, i guess it is easy to be pessimistic. I also think in each generation there are going to be changes, and some will be good and others will be not so good. But at the end of the day the world will keep going around.

oregonflatland i couldn't agree more. thumbs up for the truth!

lindsay pollak is very cute and sweet and that is exactly why she is successful - she is rich, educated, and very articulate. she is in her early 30's and still is not married - no kids. she is a typical white woman in post-feminist america: childless, ambitious, and well-prepared for a female dominated nation. the tide is turning rapidly. at my workplace, the vast majority are women and we employ several hundred people. the greater female empowerment in a society, the lower birth rates....
oregonflatland 2 years ago 2
for any society that is a recipe for downfall. whether through conquest from stronger forces or through displacement through declining population. gen y kids will take us even further into the grave. i feel disgusted when i meet educated white women at my workplace who have no plans for children or who talk about adopting 'foreign' babies. they are the most selfish women on earth. travel the world and you will see that american women are the most selfish on the planet.
oregonflatland 2 years ago
And guess who raised those Gen Y kids? You guessed it, post-feminist shit-for-brains American whimmin who victimized their sons into a bunch of limp-wristed grass eating helpless vaginas.
White whimmin in the workplace is the reason for the lack of quality in the American workforce. Stupid selfish fat dykes are too busy clumsily text messaging on their cell phones to care about anything.
The American white female is the bottom of the barrel when it comes to dating, avoid them like the plague.
shelivade91 2 years ago
@shelivade91 I'm not American but... lol
Why are people so generic in their responses ?
Do you just parrot things you've heard ?
Also, why do people like you seem to ONLY concentrate on the negative ?

Totemface 2 years ago
conserative is a failure and full of hate.
rextony22 2 years ago
Nah, i think that the hippys were just a small few of the baby boomers. At least most of the Baby boomers weren't raised with so many rules and regulations that us young people have these days, ontop of too many movies and video games to make us anti social and lazy, us Gen Y have shit too easy and now that we are getting into the work force more, we don't wanna do the shitty jobs that our baby boomer parents would have done regardless. We wanna be at the top before we start at the bottom.
58jtaylor 2 years ago
@58jtaylor yeah whats wrong with that.....i see gen y'ers at grocery stores, but would they do fast food..hmmm
sylicone221 1 year ago
@Totemface im so glad my parents arent baby boomers, theyre silent generation! heheheee......gen x was raised by silent, not baby boomers.
sylicone221 1 year ago
And for the others here, if you are not X, then you are definitely "Baby Boomers" and as it seems to me, now that Y's are old enough - all you are doing now is pointing the finger of fail upon us. What is worst, being a failure or raising people to become failures? I know which one is worst. I am the coming of a generational rut and I know it. Most people I know my age are word for word exactly what people say here, and it sickens me. I don't want to be like that and I will not.
Totemface 2 years ago
its probably too late for that don't you think?
rextony22 2 years ago
@Totemface there are already 2 generations of baby boomers, the younger baby boomers are generation jones, some may say gen x?
sylicone221 1 year ago
Well, as a "Millenial" - I think some of you have a point. I know for fact this isn't a nature vs. nuture debate because I think our parents the "Baby Boomers" have clearly failed in raising us. As a Gen Y, I do possess many of these qualities - but not all of them. And shelivade91 - you're a fucking idiot, your opinion counts for nothing.
Totemface 2 years ago
Gen Y will not be capable of raising the next gen of children. abortion rates will continue to skyrocket as they are already and youth suicide will be made even more fashionable by the incideous media.
Is it just me or does it seem like something majorly terrible is forcast for the very near future. the west crumbles under the weight of a fattened success. and we all fall DOWN... 100 yrs from now the cultural landscape will be almost unrecognizable, comrade.
80sOGRE 2 years ago
abortion rates are up, suicide rates are skyrocketing, white birth rates are declining, the minority population is increasing exponentially, women are attending universities at increasingly greater rates than men, educated women have fewer children, college graduation rates are declining in comparison to other advanced nations....the united states is falling fast. the u.s. is what it is because of the population who founded it. when they are gone, the u.s.a. will cease to exist.

Pathetic.
shelivade91 2 years ago 2
Fuck this fat whore, she doesn't know shit.

@oregonflatland gen y SUCKS.....please, dont fucking hire them..theyre STUPID!
sylicone221 1 year ago
i hope jackson is getting used to his new accomodations down south. that whole family is sick and twisted. they are nothing but a freakshow spawned out of the post baby boomer gen x rebellion. then the hippies and communists who rebelled shat out gen y, the most self-centered, egotistical, and lazy in american history.
oregonflatland 2 years ago
they only want to do something if it's 'fun' and only think about what makes them happy. they say things like 'if you don't like it here why don't you just move to paris?' or 'why don't you get a job as a VP?' it's that i can do whatever i want mentality. i work at a lib. arts college and students will do or say the most outrageous things and still think they can get ahead, get recommendations etc.
oregonflatland 2 years ago
@oregonflatland gen y SUCKS!! they are SOOOO pathetic, gen x was raised by silent generation not baby boomers....
sylicone221 1 year ago
i am right on the cusp of gen x/gen y and i absolutely hate working with gen y. gen y kids only care about what they are doing. twitter is a perfect example of gen y selfishness. they believe every aspect of their lives are unique and significant. they do not care if others have more experience or knowledge than them. they make statements like 'i didn't know what i wanted to do after college so i decided to move to new york and take an executive job' as if that were an obvious outcome.

MTXSHO9732vV8SHO 2 years ago 7
Exactly, they're like 5 year olds. They all have a shoot for the stars mentality because they were spoon fed by single mothers who never taught them what it meant to earn something, no one lost when you were a kid in the 90's, everyone got a "thanks for participating" trophy from the elite, to females, to minorities, and all the way down to the crippled kid wearing a back brace
And with the middle class goes American culture as we knew it, here comes 1st world communism. So much for the 1980's.
