wow. She could still sing at this point, but you can definitely hear that she was starting to have a little trouble with her voice. The raspiness, the inability to really REALLY hit the high notes...if she could've stopped the drugs and the smoke she could've saved her pipes but alas, she didn't and in the end the Voice was destroyed.

Dunno if you've read the papers lately,but Whitney's been diagnosed with emphysema, a progressive incurable disease and one that is a direct result of heavy smoking. She's lost the one thing that set her apart from all others, that phenomenal breath control that gave her the ability to sustain those soaring, otherworldly crescendos that are her trademark. Even if she'd lost some of her range it wouldn'tve mattered much as long as she had those incredible lungs...so very sad.

I think the change in voice is more attributable to age and wear than anything else, especially the raspier undertones. It may not be the way it was in the 90s, but Whitney is still one of the best performers in the world.

People keep talking about her voice does that matter God saved her life. Life is transitional we all make mistakes and learn from them as experience. She has done it all will there be another I doubt it. Like her or not she is still timeless.
Her voice had definitely seen better days than she sounds here (she didn't extend many belted notes... turned them all into runs). But still, still better than almost anyone out there today! How much crack did she do to fuck her voice up that much in just 6 years???
a couple of things to note here: 1. she looks fabulous in that ensemble. 2. she is one of those talented singers that can turn a single song into multiple renditions and this is one heck of a rendition 3. i miss her when she was in moment. she's a fine performer.
This is in 2004. I saw her interview in 2002 and her voice was pretty hoarse when speaking. But wow she could still sing here but i wonder why her voice got so bad now!

I think the change in voice is more attributable to age and wear than anything else, especially the raspier undertones. It may not be the way it was in the 90s, but Whitney is still one of the best performers in the world.

"The best female singer in the world today"...hmmm, she is fantastic but I think thats debatable with maria carey and celine dion as her close competition. I couldnt pick who was the best singer out of the 3 but I enjoy listening to them and watching them perform equally. They are all power supersingers.

@wisdaniel: Tired of hearing about the drugs. Whitney Houston is a survivor - she was a vocal powerhouse before drugs....during drug use....and post drug use. She is truly a gifted vocalist. Whatever condition her voice is in at any given time...she is still "The Voice"....no one can compare to her....the emotion and lyrical phrasing is second to none. Whitney's uses her voice to connect to people and you can hear it in her music.

I like this performance. She was very emotional singing this. I like both her old voice and new voice, because the emotion and quality of her music has not changed. And the tone is still great. People need to accept her for who she is now and not for what she once was.

Her voice had definitely seen better days than she sounds here (she didn't extend many belted notes... turned them all into runs). But still, still better than almost anyone out there today! How much crack did she do to fuck her voice up that much in just 6 years???

a couple of things to note here: 1. she looks fabulous in that ensemble. 2. she is one of those talented singers that can turn a single song into multiple renditions and this is one heck of a rendition 3. i miss her when she was in moment. she's a fine performer.
