  • Hi, Kristine. Thanks for sending this along so that it would complement the second video I commented on. Oh, what lovely sibilants shimmering across the early part of this piece. On the whole, a compelling portrait crisply in focus with direct address and a lack of cloying nostalgia which seems to come from your selection of clear and abundant details. Overall, the harmonizing effects of Schubert and your fine editing frame this in a soft focus that speaks to reverence & tenderness. Lovely work!

  • @HerAeolianHarp Thanks so much A.Harp ...for watching this...we all have our own story...and this is a tiny part of mine...which I found interesting and fun to do....thanks again...k

  • what a wonderful place to be born. little cobbled streets and canal. This is a fine piece of art

  • @butterflydrum Sorry butterfly...thought I had thanked you for watching this...hope to see N. on Sunday ? Waiting to hear.

  • Kristine! So beautiful. I went to the Mississippi river to look for where my grandmother was born; it's no longer there; the island was a sand bar that washed away. When we go to see history, we see the now and can only imagine the then of it. Yet somehow you cut through the wall of time and found it; or bits of it anyway. Well done!!!! And to share it with your son, ties it to another generation; thus continuing the story of your family.

  • @thizizliz Thanks so much for watching Liz...sad the island was washed away ! Yes...it was nice to go with my lad...and we survived it !! ..lol...

  • Nice one, very atmospheric...nice to see Taig too...the next generation.

  • @gypsyjazzer Thanks Gypsy !

  • Well done. Thank you for the journey. I was saying today that though we may be mistaken, for us our perception is our reality. I like how you contrasted the myths of our childhood and heritage with the a bit of the other side of the coin.

  • @sonofwalt Yes...well I only found out about the 'other' side by chance...by talking to the woman in the shop...who was too shy to talk to camera. She knew it all from her husband...whose ancestors had worked in the distilleries...Thanks for watching...hope all well with you.

  • @xyzllii Thank you, Kristine. Yes, I am well. Busy with school and work, but dying to make time to play more with all these words than I have been doing of late. I hope you know that seeing a new video from you always puts a smile on my face.

  • @sonofwalt Thanks my dearie...best wishes...

  • Today, 25th September, is my mother's birthday, she was born at Cranford in Middlesex, in 1927.

    She died many years ago.

Many of your words are similar to the feelings that I guess we all have about our parents.

    Nice work, thank you.

  • @harryfaber Well Harry...my father used to say it was good if the artist could achieve making the particular , universal...and I have always born that in mind...Rembrandt's self portraits are a great example of this. Happy Birthday to your Mom...wherever she might be...Thanks for watching.

  • Beautiful video! What a beautiful place! Amazing history-----you were well born.

  • @Idlinfarm Thanks Ida...just come in from cutting the grass lol...! You know us multi tasking women...!!

  • Just lovely K, great balance of fact and emotion. Really like the use of reflections in windows . . . presence/absence,

  • @MultiLFF Thanks Lynne...it was just something i wanted to do...and I am glad I did...!

  • I have to say this is, as your first comment stated, your most captivating piece. It is rich, elegant, sad, kind. It's as if I can feel your own heart wondering about your mom and times missed speaking with her about her life. This is absolutely lovely K.i

  • @seshehd Thank you so much for that nice comment...smile...

  • Kristine...this is one of your captivating best! I cannot believe it was 7:35 in length....it seemed half that because it was so interesting and well done. You can tell a story unlike anyone I know. -Steve-

  • @OceanTownPictures Thanks Steve...very nice of you to say...really appreciate the support !! Glad you enjoyed it.

  • Thank you Kristine for an interesting piece of family history. Mother never really talked much about her roots and early childhood, other than an occasional reference to losing her mother when she was very young, the lack of love in her childhood. She often told me that the main reason she had 8 children was because she wanted a large family who loved her.

  • @markmcfly Well G8 you liked it Mark...it is interesting... I am glad I made the trip.Just can't understand why I never did before. There was another house in Schiedam...you may remember some photos of them having tea on the terrace...big house...now knocked down. I am not sure who lived there exactly but I walked past where it had been...and not knowing about the location of the house at the time & said to Taig, this is a lovely little spot...It was on the canal...in a little enclave.. Very nice

  • I've been waiting for this, K, and you don't disappoint -- elegant ... yes, indeed -- your presetation maintains a perfect balance of exposure and composure, being revealing yet respectful, authentic yet dignified -- just about a perfect share, as I've learned to expect with you! Wonderful, beautiful -- shall I go on? ... heheh.

  • @liz1060 ooh Lizbethe...(e at the wrong end !) ...your support is invaluable....thanks so much !! x

  • A moving portrait, very dignified and contained. Wonderful you were there with Taig. So many thought and associations pass through me. I'll pass this on to the kids. Thanks for your good work.

  • @alleiaegeria Thanks for that..glad you like it...am always a bit nervous of family response on these things...but I felt I was being honest...I wanted to do it...that was my only motive.
