After listening to music for so much time Sean Reinert is the first one that makes me want to learn play drums. Any experienced drummer got some beginner tips?
First off I'll need some kit ofc, but I'm afraid I can't play acoustic drums in my house... I'd like to have a teacher too but that won't be a problem in my town. Any tips?
What a soulful playing and such well established technique and unique style at such an early age... Sean and Paul put their death metal mind (that Cynic once had been - before "Focus" was finally brought to the world they knew this was their farewell to death metal genre) - into helping Chuck making Human such a landmark album in death metal.
Not to mention Steve Digiorgio and his powerful fretless bass performance... all the magic ingredients Chuck managed to get together for that one time...
Yeah great performance etc. etc. but still Chucks biggest flaw in his whole carreer is not HAVING FUCKIN STEVE DIGIORGIO ON HIS SIDE 24/7.
Fuck man, I know it was cus Steve was in 1000 bands all the time but damn... That bassist BELONGS in Death. Sure, keep doing Sadus, but you should have kept doing Death... The bassists of their other 6 albums (besides human, ctrl denied and thought patterns) really sucked compared to Steve, Chuck deserved better.
@king502sb I live around the same area he does and i have some friends who work at the studio where cynic records so yea, apparently him and paul are pretty gay :)
@DoomTheDrummer666 Really? I knew there was some speculation about them but i didn't know what to think, well now i guess it's true. That's pretty cool you have friends who work where cynic work.
@cmpunkfan9 I'm not your "mate" and I doubt you'd be alive if it wasn't for that drunken Friday night when your parents decided they didn't need a condom
how is he doing that at the end? with the ride cymbal it sounds like hes hitting it at with a 16th note beat but it only looks like hes hitting it at 8th note beat. is there an extra ride on his left side and hes alternating each hand or is it a lag and he really is hitting all those notes with one hand or what?
@cmsasuke17 I don't know for certain what his kit set-up was back then, but I'm pretty sure he's using the hi-hat (in the normal, left side position) for the "double ride" parts.
@Steve128967 i've read in an interview of sean reinert that he plays double bass, beginning with the left foot, striking the bass drum and also the hit hat
@Steve128967 i've read in an interview of sean reinert that he plays double bass, beginning with the left foot, striking the bass drum and also the hit hat
Flawless performance and the cymbals are way different from you would normally hear... tons of up-beat hits and jazzy lead hand patterns on the ride, and his fills stray away from the standard descending 4 note roll on each tom.
Also, that's the sound of an entirely untriggered kit... awesome.
@Steve128967 spot on, brother. so, it sounds like u'd be the right guy to explain this to me, being that i'm mainly good with strings and vocals. anyway, would u mind explaining to me wat triggers are, and their purpose??? it'd be appreciated. DEATH FOREVER! R.I.P. CHUCK.
@opethinchains Certainly... basically, a trigger is something you attach to a drum which when "triggered" sends a pre-selected sample through something, whether it be headphones/in-ear monitors, the front of house speakers, etc.
There are many things they can be used for-- they make it easier to hear the bass drum when recording (mainly for super fast stuff) and also allow the bass drum to be heard better live. They aren't "cheating" whatsoever, in fact it actually makes it a bit harder.
@Steve128967 thank fucking god someone that actually knows music!! everybody always says how can you like trigger recording better? that's cheating. lmao thank you this made my day
no puedo creer que este Huevon toco con Death y Cynic a la vez ese año. la interpretación inpecable.. uno de los pocos bateristas buenos de la antigua escuela.
My aunt had got brain tumer... RIP aunty..... man it used to be so scary coz she started losing her memory, she couldn't even remember her own siblings... I went to see her in the hospital....and she got scared of me coz she couldn't recognize me... I was so shocked and frightened.. I just can't imagine what kind of sad moments our Chuck must have been through... Death must really be proud of Chuck and he must have been searching for someone like Chuck to start up his band.. RIP Aunty RIP Chuck.
Death may have been on Beavis and Butthead or something. Just a small clip, or headbangers ball? Mtv used to have a decent late night metal show. Years and years AND years ago
Death may have been on Beavis and Butthead or something. Just a small clip, or headbangers ball? Mtv used to have a decent late night metal show. Years and years AND years ago
sometimes abit less is more, seems that whenever i hear Richard Christy play this song he over does alot of the fills. Sean makes the drums meld into the song simply amazing.
Thank you so much for posting these. I typed in Sein Reinert Death into the search just hoping for maybe a few clips. I had no idea all this amazing footage existed.
I've been playing drums for 2 years now, and I could play just about every metal song my way, which is a little different but still matches the guitar, bass and vocals. This song is the toughest song for me. The bass drums are fucking fast. I'll try this song later on, let's just hope I can do it
Richard Christy kind of screwed up songs off HUMAN when Death played in Eindhoven, or at least struggled to replicate Reinert's original performances. That's not to say he isn't hugely talented, and does a great job on TSOP, but Reinert was amazing with Cynic, with his ability to go through pumelling metal to jazzy fills, so I think its between him and Hoglan. Hoglan may be the better metal drummer, but Reinert has more variety in his playing.
man who would have thought these guys played bogart's? it seems everyone has... i saw opeth there.... actually that's the only time i've been there haha. but damn... chalk one up for ohio
every time i feel like i'm a good drummer I'll hear a reinert drum fill or a danny carey groove that'll literally blow my mind. i go back to the drawing board. i just watched this and together as one, and I don't know how many times i would rewind the song just to try and COMPREHEND pun intended what the fuck he exactly just played. he's one of my greatest influences and I applaud his inginuity and perserverance.
@MoshersRage I agree that he does now, but for as the stuff that they played on their respective Death albums specifically, I'd have to give it to Christy. Live in L.A. is especially ridiculous! Not to put down Hoglan in any sense, he's absurd and a half.
Awesome! from the days before every fricken drummer played with triggers. This dude has some serious fricken feet to make those kicks strokes that powerful at those speeds.
@SeanSitka Yup MTV still plays it. They also play The Philosopher and God Of Emptiness (Morbid Angel) on a show called MTV Loud. It's on at like 3 in the morning though.
