the u.s. is going to make this plane with the help of lockeed. then boeing is going to suit it up with guns to make it a gunship. i heard it is going to replace the AC-130 gunship
The C-27J Spartan out performs the CASA C-295 in almost all areas and is better suited the CASR mission criteria set by the Canadian Armed Forces. The C-27J is also a cost-effective platform offering compatibiliy with Canada s new C-130J-30. The C-27J is Canada s best option.
Thanks for that video! I was interested because these are a fair bet here in Oz to replace the venerable Caribous due to sharing engines and some systems with the J-model Hercs we have. As impressive as that landing was, they can't come close to the Caribou for STOL operations apparently - the closest direct replacement is buying more Chinook helicopters! Nice video thanks - Farnborough is at the top of my list of events to get to in the next few years - very jealous! cheers John
Sorry for the followup but, oddly enough, in this mornings paper there was an article that we may not get them after all. We may buy old Brazilian Buffaloes to cannabalize and choose a new replacement for 2011. I'm sure if we hadn't run out of parts the Canadian Forces would still be using Spitfires and Shermans.
I just heard that Viking Aerospace (Canadian?) who bought the type certificates for all the DHCs is looking at reintroducing the Buffalo after they get the Twin Otter back into production - maybe that is part of the decision to wait? Here in Oz our Caribous were due for replacement in 1990!!! Now its probably the end of this year (2009).
Seems like a good idea to me, but I expect the Gov't will try and do this on the cheap as they usually do. Buy old Buff's from Brazil and keep ours flying... there are probably a few lying in the jungles of Vietnam, maybe we could send out scavenger hunts for parts;)
Well if your Gov't is anything like ours (looking to do it all on the cheap and as far in the future as possible)maybe we could team up, combine our requirements and develop a new airframe. We have really old Buffaloe's, SeaKing's & Herc's, you have F-111's (Aardvarks right?) We could patch together Aarherkingaloe's..... they could STOL, fly NOE & Mach2, and land vertically!
If a c-130 and aTransall had a child, this would be it.

It's going to supplement the AC-130 rather than replace it. Means they can have a more scaleable option rather than a herky bird.

It is the best option you are correct, although i would like to see a slightly stretched version.

he he - we are still running F-111s using bits from some big aircraft graveyard. Their capability is impossible to replace but still...

I believe the Alenia is manufactured in Canada as we had a query from them regarding the HD video master copy to be used for promotion.
