  • ya i know its not a story for kids ... what makes it not for them ?? what are the differences ??

  • Because I am a sucker for satire, it is a weakness of mine

  • as a huge fan of this book (yes, Gulliver Fan Girl, am I the only one?) I love this lecture! I re-read the book all the time! but none of my friends have. no one can talk about it.

  • Thank you, sir. I missed my professor's lecture on this book and this is sufficient for now.

  • Thank you for that

  • I like how Swift mentions pissing and defecating every ten pages.

  • he was vicar of kilroot....where i grew up

  • Hi i'm 12, and i'm reading that book, well the rewritten one for kids.

  • You probably know more than this guy, even if your only 12...

  • sir could you make an analysis/lecture of the symbolisms, foreshadowing, plot, theme, atmosphere and other elements of fiction in gullivers travel and how the world view at that time is reflected?

  • When the two Martian moons, Phobos and Deimos, were eventually found, by Asaph Hall at the US Naval Observatory, their orbits proved to be quite similar to those described in Swift's novel. Phobos is actually 6,000 km from the surface of Mars and revolves around Mars in 7.7 hours, whereas Swift gave the values 13,600 km and 10 hours, respectively. Deimos averages 20,100 km from Mars and orbits in 30.3 hours; Swift gives 27,200 km and 21.5 hours, respectively.

  • I was searching for comments on this very puzzle. It seems to me there must have been a long tradition which held this knowledge from the distant past. I do not think it is a coincidence that Mars spawned two children in Roman mythology, Romulus and Remus. Somehow someone knew. I wish I knew how.

  • UFOs -aliens- laputia seems to be more like a description of a flying saucer with occupants researching different life forms written in guliver travels.

  • interesting, thanks

  • i wonder if anyone can explain how J.Swift knew about the 2 moons of mars 150 years before they were officially discovered??

  • UFO- aliens-

actually i have read he was influenced by johan kepler who hypothesized mars having 2 moons earlier- than agian laputa described in gulliver travel seem to sound more like a UFO.
