  • This video makes me want a hurdy-gurdy.

  • Immense!! What a band!

  • Study the shocked faces at 3:45. A picture. But not as if Win hadn't done it before.

  • win is the modern lennon.

  • Acade Fie

  • Beyond belief how amazing they are! Holy shit.

  • Linda, performance!

  • Now that is a live performance!

  • GENIALNE.

  • I just want to marry this entire band so much

  • nice

  • I do hope Win offered to replace that camera lens.

  • @FeltyMultiMedia Yeah, he paid for it afterwards. But it was not the lens he broke, just the glass protecting the lens.

  • @FeltyMultiMedia Something tells me the obvious layer of glass in front of the lens...is on the house. Trust me. If he actually smashed the lens of a camera....it would look a little different.

  • @TheSlevinCalevra It's not an "obvious layer of glass," it's a light filter which they use on all TV studio cameras. When he smashes it at about 3:43, look at how bright the lights at the back of the stage now appear in comparison, and notice how you can't see the band clearly anymore. Then watch the next shot as it switches to a different camera and the image is darker and clearer, you can see everyone again. "Obvious layer of glass" lololololol

  • They are amazing

  • The electric guitar sound so fu***** epic from 2:43 on.

  • LMAO at the end, why would he do that.....I mean I know he's a boss but still.

  • @squeezeslemons

I don't think it was on purpose x)

  • @KalB971 Oh yes it was

  • LOL at Will's reaction when Win breaks the glass, he's like "...yeay, finishing this song..." and then "...what the....?? "

  • Brilliant brilliant brilliant! I just don't have words to describe.

  • "Now playing the fantastic 'Keep The Caw Wunning'........"

  • ¡¡AWW K FYAHH!!

  • fkn love this song :P ye canny get betta than this <3

  • ross is fuckin sellout dickhead anyway

  • @mooneboy A sellout? For what? Gaining mainstream success and making more money? If you think he is a sellout for that then you pretty much think what Arcade Fire does isn't worth more attention and more money.

  • @fucksalt97 hello mate sorry bout the long reply, i dont have a problem with people making money, or being successful, i just dont like j ross and his obvios ethics, hes entetaing and god a what he dose but i thinck hes a butt head and over paid and raped the bcc with russel brand to cut his tyes. i dont thick you can comper him with a creative group like arcade fire, hes or was a frount man for the bbc. how do you judge succsess?

  • the drummer has such a strangely shaped head 3:00

  • If only the folks who developed the hurdy gurdy over a thousand years ago could see this. They would be proud of the continued utilization of their fabulous instrument.

  • :D :D

  • The hair of Win Butler looks way better here then it did last monday...

  • Comment removed

  • I love seeing Colin Stetson rocking it in the background of like every live video I watch of anyone ever.

  • When fellas like Bruce Springsteen and Bowie play with them and names like Foo Fighters and Peter Gabriel cover their songs, what more can you say?

  • AWCADE FIYAH!

  • This song sounds SOOOOO MUCH BETTER LIVE!!!

  • decent bands can sound good on record, but only great bands can match it live. Arcade Fire is a great band

  • Keep the Caw Wunning

  • This is the new wall of sound, my god incredible!!!

  • 1:42 Dude really needs to work on his embouchure xD

  • keep the caw wunning

  • I think this is the best TV performance I've seen, of any band. And I love Regine's dress. And did he really smash that camera?? Lol

  • @caligirl2191 Probably Win just smashed a glass that was put in front of the camera.

  • One of the best live shows I've ever heard.

  • YA HURDY-GURDYs ROCK

  • At first I was like "why would he smash the lense" and then I was all "oh yeah, he's Win Butler."

  • This has to be one of the best live recordings of Arcade Fire.

  • this makes my nipples hard

  • @klhighbury Ditto that!

  • The reality is that this is true musical genius. This isn't music business, this is ART!

    Vive la musique Canadienne!

  • @mendonca83 oh yeah well win and will are from texas :P but they moved away :(

  • @princessyrandom1214 I'm from Texas, and I wish SO BADLY that they had moved from Montreal to here bahaha :P

  • @thehappiestcamper I know I live in Austin but they always play at ACL when they come here WHICH I CANT AFFORD except for last time when tghe jerks on craigslist bought out the concert and sold them for like 200 bucks each

  • I think win may have worn that shirt for the entire of the touring for Neon Bible

  • ercadeee fayaaaaa

  • 4 people forgot to keep the car running.

  • AHCADE FIYAH

  • Haha, the look on Sarah's face when win breaks the camera... priceless

  • whoa dat snare!

is that like a 14x10 marching snare or am i seeing things

  • I herd this band was from russia, is the true?

  • @720rodney Nop, they're from Canada :)

  • @720rodney Canada's their home base. The lead singer is actually from a suburb of Houston Texas.

  • @720rodney Two members (Win and Will) are the Americans in the band. Everyone else is Canadian based (to my knowledge).

  • @Nostalgios Montreal Band

  • Comment removed due to too many positive responces.

  • Seeing them tomorrow night in Chicago !!

  • what is that thing that girl is playing between the violin players and the singer? ive never seen anything like that

  • @hotpiggydog a hurdy gurdy :-)

  • This band is incredible live, and I would actually like them if I wasn't so damn annoyed by the lead singer's voice.

  • 4 people shut the car off....

  • "oh god he smashed the thing and everything...."

  • Holy Shit! That's a V-12 !!

  • Keep The Car Running live to Madison Square Garden !!!!!! awsome

  • They Are AMAZING on live !!!!

  • Awesome performance. They killed it. Love this fucking song.

  • @Sweenzer It's actually a mandolin... but I'll forgive you

  • People wanna talk about breaking glass, he kept in time with the music and it made a great visual .Even the falling glass was in beat.

  • They annoy me quite alot:

they have a whole persona as being all origional (hurdy gurdy, bashed up cymbals, strange haircuts...)

the singer doing his little "rock and roll" camera smash at the end

but the kicker is, i actually like the song.

    yeh, its a good tune

  • THIS IS THE BEST.

Seriously, I watch this about 5 times a week. Each time I watch it a few times. The best youtube version...

  • What a great version though smashing the glass with a yukelele dosnt have quite the same impact

  • What a great version

  • Mandolin, horns, violins, Hurdy Gurdy = Epic Rock

Read that sentence alone and you laugh

Read it after seeing Arcade Fire and you agree!

  • another instance of Win Butler being a rockstar. so much love for arcade fire.

  • Not enough destruction on rock anymore.....bravo! Have my tickets for AF/U2 this summer.

  • 2 people don't have cars.

  • Outstanding.....I challenge ANYONE to say otherwise!!

  • I've probably watched this video 1000 times since January 2009. Yeah it's fucking flawless.

  • Eff, I love this video. I watch it everyday.

  • Have that, you god damned camera.

  • Aha epic Win moment!

  • Never did the Jonathan Ross show see a better performance.

  • At 4:04, when Ross comments on the camera, Will and Regine's reaction is like "Oh,shit...We're going to pay for that."

  • one of the best performances ever

  • This band is oooozing unassuming epicness

  • CANADA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @tervivjerbry Damn you! I can't not vote up :D

  • Good lad for smashing the camera... I heard it was cuz he was in the Green Room, and he all he wanted to do was step out during the break to see one of his friends in the audience, but the backstage staff said no...

    bastards...

  • @howardmoon1234 really thats why cos he wanted to talk to his friend aww diddums spoilt kid eh

  • This must be the best version of Keep the car running, I've ever seen. So much energy!

  • well, the camera man didnt saw it coming :-)

  • holy god is this so full of epicness.

  • so, was like Win really mad or what?

  • @rrg019000 his wife is Haitian, they wrote a song about Haiti about 7 years ago and the whole band did, not just him

  • Comment removed

  • @rrg019000 Eluveitie are an awful excuse for a Folk Metal. Know your shit before you speak.

  • Hurdy Gurdy is a great name for an instrument. They should rename the violin merry-go-round.

  • Haha Ross is a cool dude. That could have been a lot more awkward but he made it funny.

  • A very unusual and un-win thing to do... childish temper tantrum because he was made to sit in the green room.

I would've respected this moronic outburst if he had stuck to his guns, but instead he paid for the broken camera glass... ZZzzzzzzZZzzZZZZzzZz

  • Maybe I can join Arcade Fire. I'll play the "Snap" (snaps fingers).

  • hahaha look at the state of that symbol!! 1:43 :-D

  • Straight up... this video gives me chills. This band is unbelievable... Much Love AF - keep it up!

  • 4:05 -- HURTY GURTY chic looks like shes ready for a LOAD ... hahaha but i love this song.

  • awesome performance, but why storm off the stage like a little kid and break shit? very unprofessional

  • @t00manypuppies Look at the previous comments, you'll see why he did.

  • @Electricninjafish well, i guess it was more of a rhetorical question. my point is that even if you're having a long, stressful day, you are a professional and should act like one.

  • @t00manypuppies u seem to be 4getting what profession it is....its pretty much bang on the money as far as professionalism in the music industry goes

  • @t00manypuppiesThat IS professionalism. The goal of musicians is to be remembered; chances are, you'll remember the time Win Butler threw his mandolin and broke the camera lens. At least that's the way I see it n_n

  • @purpleballoon15 hah yeah the goal is to be remembered... in a good light. i'm gonna remember win butler as the immature, childish frontman of arcade fire, not a good thing. im scared to go see them live now for fear that i might get something broken over my head

  • @t00manypuppies immature childish frontman of a band who donated nearly 2 million dollars to Haiti this year. Just sayin'

  • So weird he doesn't seem bothered at all throughout the song

  • According to Jeremy (the drummer), Win isn't even sure what happened. It was just a spur of the moment thing after a long, stressful day and he was probably overcome by the energy. I have the link to the article if anyone's really interested, but I think most of us are just here to enjoy the music.

  • Seriously, if I could join any band that I wanted, I would chose Arcade Fire! The only problem is, I don't play any instrument. Haha!

  • @pytko3 definitely. i wish i was arcade fire...the whole band. me.

  • @pytko3 you could just. . . hit things.

  • What a great song by a great band!

    Love the Hurdy Gurdy!

    Thanks for the share...

    Thanks for the share~~~

  • Oops I broke your camera with my... Mandolin

  • the best live version of this song. 3:00....orgasm.

  • Ok so apparently the camera got smashed because they were at a bit of a low point on tour and the tipping point was when Win was unable to catch up with his friend in London because they were made to sit in the green room for so long . . . big freaking woop - seems like a good reason to me! They're still one of the most inventive, talented. intelligent and down-to-Earth bands around!

  • Fantastic band! Regine is gorgeous but so are the other girls!! Please come and play in Australia!!!!

  • long live Arcade Fire.

  • cheesy, very cheesy

  • I've just discovered these guys & they are well high on my list of favourite bands!

  • Fantastic band, but I can't stand Win Butler. He writes lyrics about his contempt for everyone else and then has tantrums on stage.

  • @AmourSynthetique wasnt a tantrum..it was done for a reason.. try to figure it out

  • @TheThroney Yes, I realise the intention. But it seems clichéd and somewhat hypocritical. For a band that try to maintain a theatrical aspect into their live performance, smashing a camera seems somewhat juvenile and delinquent.

  • @AmourSynthetique who did it before him?

  • @TheThroney Are you kidding me? Hundreds of musicians. Pete Townshend, of The Who, smashed his guitar into cameras and just generally destroyed instruments on stage and on television. Hendrix, Deep Purple, Smashing Pumpkins... the list goes on. The only difference here is that he used a mandolin.

  • @TheThroney Mind telling me? I'd like to know

  • @AmourSynthetique

oh just shut the fuck up and enjoy the music

if it wasnt for Winn, there wouldnt be an arcade fire.

  • can someone please tell me the exact part where you can hear the noise that the hurdy gurdy is making? i have no idea haha.

  • @basketcase5295 It sounds kind of like a bagpipe, or like a whole string section at once. In this song it blends in with the violin and viola so it's kind of hard to hear, but if you listen closely you can make a distinction.

  • he smashed the glass because hes fucking cool. end of.

  • the best I have heard lately. Amazing Sound!!!!!!we want to see in Athens!!!!!

  • @spursfanjordan lately? where've you been the last 6 years?

  • "It is...Awcade Fiyah!"

  • @Jonmad17 hahahahahah

  • She is playing a Hurdy gurdy.

  • She needs a dancing monkey for the top of that thing

  • That makes sense. I have seen them live where his mic was turned off for the duration of "My Body is a Cage" and when the song ended and he was told that, he told the audience something like "We are professionals and if the people who work for us are not then I refuse to play, sorry" and stormed off stage. He came back a few minutes later and the rest of the show was perfect.

I'd still like to believe that Jonathan Ross had a part in making him angry. I know I wanted to smash the tv that night.

  • @UntitledNumber4 that seems reasonable! Have you watched the concert they did for VEVO at Madison Square Gardens earlier this yeah? During this very song his mandolin cut out twice and he kept strumming the entire time, consummate professional, and it took until the second time the mandolin cut before he yelled at the sound guy - and at that, away from the mic. To boot, the drum machine fucked up while Regine was singing Sprawl II and he called it off and started it again for her <3

  • @purplegirl110294

I have not seen that one, no, but when I saw them in London for the Neon Bible tour, during My Body Is a Cage there was no sound coming out of his mic, essentially making the song instrumental. He hadn't known and kept on singing, but we couldn't hear it. Once the song was over someone told him and he he stormed off the stage after telling us something like "We are professionals and we expect the people who work with us to be the same." He came back 5 minutes later though.

  • @UntitledNumber4 sounds fair enough! If he couldn't hear that his voice wasn't coming through I'm tipping that his monitor isn't working as well (making that jibe even more understandable) . . . you sure he didn't just keep singing? In videos I've seen where the mic's cut for a bit he's kept singing the entire time. Anywho, DEFINITELY watch it on their channel, it's a phenomenal concert :) I can't wait til they come back to Aus. What's your favourite song on The Suburbs?

  • @purplegirl110294 Yes, he did keep singing, but we just couldn't hear him, and it was for the whole song.

My favourite songs on The Suburbs are Sprawl II and Suburban War.

Have seen them a few weeks ago here in Berlin, it was a really good concert. Owen Pallet was supporting them and then played the violin with them, which was a very nice bonus (visually more than anything else since it's very hard to hear one violin in all that noise they make).

  • @UntitledNumber4 wait they played Berlin and then they're going back to hit Munich and Dusseldorf in November?? (I'm gonna be in Germany then, I was looking into the possibility of catching a show - I'm not a total stalker :P) Owen Pallet is made of win! (not Butler) I'm not sure I can split the songs from the Suburbs - I go through phases of different favourites . . . if you like Sprawl II you HAVE to see the one on their channel. Did they play it at the gig you went to?

  • @purplegirl110294 Yes, they already played Berlin, didn't notice about the Munich and Dusseldorf dates before though. It was hard choosing songs, but Sprawl II always makes me dance, so that's always good. My least favourite is Modern Man.

They did play Sprawl II, and honestly, it was lowest point of the gig. The friend I went with (who didn't listen to the album before going) was surprised that it's my favourite song.
