@FeltyMultiMedia Something tells me the obvious layer of glass in front of the lens...is on the house. Trust me. If he actually smashed the lens of a camera....it would look a little different.
@TheSlevinCalevra It's not an "obvious layer of glass," it's a light filter which they use on all TV studio cameras. When he smashes it at about 3:43, look at how bright the lights at the back of the stage now appear in comparison, and notice how you can't see the band clearly anymore. Then watch the next shot as it switches to a different camera and the image is darker and clearer, you can see everyone again. "Obvious layer of glass" lololololol
@mooneboy A sellout? For what? Gaining mainstream success and making more money? If you think he is a sellout for that then you pretty much think what Arcade Fire does isn't worth more attention and more money.
@fucksalt97 hello mate sorry bout the long reply, i dont have a problem with people making money, or being successful, i just dont like j ross and his obvios ethics, hes entetaing and god a what he dose but i thinck hes a butt head and over paid and raped the bcc with russel brand to cut his tyes. i dont thick you can comper him with a creative group like arcade fire, hes or was a frount man for the bbc. how do you judge succsess?

@thehappiestcamper I know I live in Austin but they always play at ACL when they come here WHICH I CANT AFFORD except for last time when tghe jerks on craigslist bought out the concert and sold them for like 200 bucks each
Good lad for smashing the camera... I heard it was cuz he was in the Green Room, and he all he wanted to do was step out during the break to see one of his friends in the audience, but the backstage staff said no...

Terrible, boring hipster garbage. Find Eluveitie for good hurdy gurdy. A hipster with a stupid stance and crappy dress does not a hurdy gurdy player make.
@rrg019000 You mean find the 20 seconds at the start of every Eluveitie song where they play good music before the singer comes on and ruins it? Seriously, I want versions of their songs where the singer just fucks off and lets the rest of the band play.
@Electricninjafish well, i guess it was more of a rhetorical question. my point is that even if you're having a long, stressful day, you are a professional and should act like one.
@t00manypuppiesThat IS professionalism. The goal of musicians is to be remembered; chances are, you'll remember the time Win Butler threw his mandolin and broke the camera lens. At least that's the way I see it n_n
@purpleballoon15 hah yeah the goal is to be remembered... in a good light. i'm gonna remember win butler as the immature, childish frontman of arcade fire, not a good thing. im scared to go see them live now for fear that i might get something broken over my head
According to Jeremy (the drummer), Win isn't even sure what happened. It was just a spur of the moment thing after a long, stressful day and he was probably overcome by the energy. I have the link to the article if anyone's really interested, but I think most of us are just here to enjoy the music.
Ok so apparently the camera got smashed because they were at a bit of a low point on tour and the tipping point was when Win was unable to catch up with his friend in London because they were made to sit in the green room for so long . . . big freaking woop - seems like a good reason to me! They're still one of the most inventive, talented. intelligent and down-to-Earth bands around!
@TheThroney Yes, I realise the intention. But it seems clichéd and somewhat hypocritical. For a band that try to maintain a theatrical aspect into their live performance, smashing a camera seems somewhat juvenile and delinquent.
@TheThroney Are you kidding me? Hundreds of musicians. Pete Townshend, of The Who, smashed his guitar into cameras and just generally destroyed instruments on stage and on television. Hendrix, Deep Purple, Smashing Pumpkins... the list goes on. The only difference here is that he used a mandolin.
@basketcase5295 It sounds kind of like a bagpipe, or like a whole string section at once. In this song it blends in with the violin and viola so it's kind of hard to hear, but if you listen closely you can make a distinction.
That makes sense. I have seen them live where his mic was turned off for the duration of "My Body is a Cage" and when the song ended and he was told that, he told the audience something like "We are professionals and if the people who work for us are not then I refuse to play, sorry" and stormed off stage. He came back a few minutes later and the rest of the show was perfect.
I'd still like to believe that Jonathan Ross had a part in making him angry. I know I wanted to smash the tv that night.
@UntitledNumber4 that seems reasonable! Have you watched the concert they did for VEVO at Madison Square Gardens earlier this yeah? During this very song his mandolin cut out twice and he kept strumming the entire time, consummate professional, and it took until the second time the mandolin cut before he yelled at the sound guy - and at that, away from the mic. To boot, the drum machine fucked up while Regine was singing Sprawl II and he called it off and started it again for her <3
I have not seen that one, no, but when I saw them in London for the Neon Bible tour, during My Body Is a Cage there was no sound coming out of his mic, essentially making the song instrumental. He hadn't known and kept on singing, but we couldn't hear it. Once the song was over someone told him and he he stormed off the stage after telling us something like "We are professionals and we expect the people who work with us to be the same." He came back 5 minutes later though.
@UntitledNumber4 sounds fair enough! If he couldn't hear that his voice wasn't coming through I'm tipping that his monitor isn't working as well (making that jibe even more understandable) . . . you sure he didn't just keep singing? In videos I've seen where the mic's cut for a bit he's kept singing the entire time. Anywho, DEFINITELY watch it on their channel, it's a phenomenal concert :) I can't wait til they come back to Aus. What's your favourite song on The Suburbs?
@purplegirl110294 Yes, he did keep singing, but we just couldn't hear him, and it was for the whole song.
My favourite songs on The Suburbs are Sprawl II and Suburban War.
Have seen them a few weeks ago here in Berlin, it was a really good concert. Owen Pallet was supporting them and then played the violin with them, which was a very nice bonus (visually more than anything else since it's very hard to hear one violin in all that noise they make).
@UntitledNumber4 wait they played Berlin and then they're going back to hit Munich and Dusseldorf in November?? (I'm gonna be in Germany then, I was looking into the possibility of catching a show - I'm not a total stalker :P) Owen Pallet is made of win! (not Butler) I'm not sure I can split the songs from the Suburbs - I go through phases of different favourites . . . if you like Sprawl II you HAVE to see the one on their channel. Did they play it at the gig you went to?
@purplegirl110294 Yes, they already played Berlin, didn't notice about the Munich and Dusseldorf dates before though. It was hard choosing songs, but Sprawl II always makes me dance, so that's always good. My least favourite is Modern Man.
They did play Sprawl II, and honestly, it was lowest point of the gig. The friend I went with (who didn't listen to the album before going) was surprised that it's my favourite song.
This video makes me want a hurdy-gurdy.
