Here's another issue the "experts" don't mention. Some stay up because of homework. What's the trade off, do better the next day but get an F on the homework because you went to bed early OR do your homework well and be a little worse for it the next day because you actually stayed up and did it?
@Nor7hwind Apparently they didn't consider that stress is a major factor of both overeating and sleeplessness. Too many people can get grants for anything these days. This one's based on a faulty assumption - obesity is the result of overeating period - it has nothing to do with how much sleep one gets; association is not causation.
Important topic, but you claim that parents of high school children should set--make rules about--their kids' bedtime. More futile attempts at control. Instead, bring kids up to be aware of the value of sleep. Set a good example by not watching late night movies or junk TV (better yet, don't keep a TV in the home). Talk about the issues, and treat kids respectfully rather than trying to control them.
