  • Don't judge me, but I think everything about Lina is adorable. Including her voice. She's definitely one of my favorite characters, like ever. I love her too darn hard.

  • thumbs up if u were born in the wrong decade!!!

  • rrrrrrrround tones

  • It sounds like she was calling her a cunt!! XD

  • Lololololololololololololol so funny.... My sister can do the best impression of her..... Hahahaha

  • "CAHNT!!!!"

    "CAAAAAAAYYYYNT!!!!!!!"

  • There's a good number of screen actors today who could use diction training. What's the point of sounding naturalistic if the audience can't understand what they're saying??!!!

  • @zbpdrules3 My Introduction to Film class just watched this! :D

  • U know I heard that was her real voice

  • @jharmo2

Surprisingly, it's not. In a film about actors with good voices dubbing actors with the wrong voices, it's ironic that a lot of Debbie Reynolds' speaking wasn't her voice at all - it was Jean Hagen dubbing her! You can tell which parts are Debbie's real voice by whether or not it's got a Western twang to it.

  • I think she's so cute LOL

  • I think she's so cute LOL

  • cuuuunt

  • Jean Hagan was a really good actress and so funny. Anyone know which other movies she made?

  • Absolutely brilliant!

  • If you didnt realize the joke, she called her a cunt.

  • I really cahhhn't stand the diction coach's voice. haha

  • I can't stan'im!! xD

  • Round tones, round tones

  • And I can't stand him

  • "And I caaaaaaaaayn't stan em"

    Aaaahahah.

  • My FAVORITE scene in the ENTIRE film! ^_^

  • Sublime. I watch this amazing movie every Easter...although I do not know why I pick that particular day. This scene makes me crazy. She...THEY are amazing.

  • And I caaaaaaahnt styan' 'im.

    I love Lina!

  • Jean Hagen. One of America's national treasures. No award in those days could adequately honor her achievement in this movie. Now that almost 60 years on we all know how exceptional she was as Lina Lamont, she needs a posthumous Oscar or her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her superbly played role in Singing In The Rain.

  • Fran Dresher on helium.

  • a squeaky but very interesting voice....love this scene :)))

  • An' i caaan t stand 'im.

  • Is this really her voice?

  • Jean, you were a sweetie

  • Great comedy is timeless. In a million years, people will still laugh at this.

  • Out of the entire show, this is the scene I remember the most.

  • Happy birthday Kathleen Freeman!

  • AN' I CAAAAAAYYYNNNT STAN' 'IM.

  • I just tried watching this with out sound...STILL FUNNY XD!

    With sound was also funny(:

  • EVERY TIME I SEE IT I SEE PARIS HILTON

  • Ha ha ha ha best part in this musical :)

  • i can do the perfect impression of this it's hilarious. my parents say i do it a little too well. cahn't caynt caaaaaaaaaaaahnt caaaaaaaaaaaynt! lol

  • lmfao!!!!!! OMIGOD SHES HILARIOUS!!! we were watching this movie in theatre class today, and this seen comes up, and im just laughing my ass off, and my teacher is like

"sereena is there any way you caayynnntt stop laughing?"

    and im like

    TA TE TEE TOE TOO!!

  • i love this scene

  • THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!!!! THIS IS MY FAVORITE SCENE IN THE MOVIE!!!!!

  • "Cuuuuuuuuunt"

  • Too bad the person who illegally copied this didn't put up the entire dialogue. Jean Hagen was simply wonderful aping an horrific New Jersey accent.

  • i love watching these clip so funny love singing in the rain

  • This feels like early "I would like to buy a hamburger".

  • @petespanchos "I would like...to feed your fingertips...to a wolverine. If you are out...of wolverines...a badger will do..."

  • I mean...cunt? Anyone?

  • I love Jean Hagen playing Lina Lamont. Out of all of the characters in the show, she's the star

  • @kirasheart69 Absolutely not!!!!! Watch a video of 'Asphalt Jungle' and some TV series (I don't remember the title) I found a few months ago just to hear Jean's real voice - she had nice deep normal voice! The voice you hear in 'The Duelling Cavalier' is her own!

  • I love Lina Lamont! She's a tragic character though if you think about it!

  • hahha!

  • yeah lol

  • Kathleen Freeman. Love this, and the "rrrrrround tones, rrrrrrrround tones...." "Oh, Pierre, you shoudn't have come!"

  • LOL

I also like the bit where she says "Do you think I'm dumb or something". They all look at each other as if to say yes but say to her "No Lena cause not".

  • She's got the highest pitched voice out of everyone.

  • It's great to see Kathleen Freeman in this performance. Usually she plays a different kind of character. I can't think of her without thinking about the maid she played in "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and the line she kept saying: "They'll charge ya for it!"

  • i love kathleen freeman in anything she ever did.

  • To witness Jean Hagan's diversity as an actress, check out the original "Twilight Zone" episode "Room For One More"

  • @buddy69r Do you mean the episode called 'Twenty two'? If you do, Jean Hagen's not in it.

  • omg! i keep laughing every time i see it!

  • "And I can't stand him!" Ha, ha, she's terrible! Her voice always makes me crack up!

  • Watching this for the first time ever in my music class at school. everyone hates it, but i think its gorgeous. XD

  • @scarlotty123

I watched this film for the first time in a school music lesson too.

  • And I ceeeeant stannam! <3

  • Lina Lamont is one of the GREAT movie characters. Jean Hagen should have won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar....sadly she was only nominated. This is the BEST part she ever had...and she does WONDERS with it. THANKS a ton for sharing this delightful gem with us! May you & yours have a FANTASTIC Thanksgiving holiday! :)

  • @JubalCalif

Jean Hagen's talent should have landed her more great roles like this. She should have been a bigger star. Great talent!!

  • @mfso123

I second that emotion, mfso! I appreciate your insightful & "right on" comment so VERY much! It's a shame the late great Ms Hagen wasn't given more memorable roles like this one! And remember: "ROUND TONES"!!! Though, come to think of it, has anyone ever heard a SQUARE tone??? :-)

  • @JubalCalif Agreed! The lady that won that year for Gloria Graham for her very uninteresting performance in The Bad and the Beautiful.

  • @johnyzero2000

I second that emotion! Gloria Graham was good in "Bad & the Beautiful" but it was NOT Oscar worthy.

    Thanks for the comment! :)

  • "And I can' stand 'em."

    That poor diction teacher.

  • me and my friend watched sum of this in dance and for the rest of the day we talked like her and sed we couldnt stand anythin lol

    caaaant stan'em

  • always loved this part!

  • love this! my friend sent this to me.. and now i totally want to see the movie! any good reasons to see it other than the fact that gene kelly is AHmazingly handsome? ;)

  • Who plays the diction coach?

  • I saw this when I was 10 yrs old. Aaand

I still say, "I caaann't stan' it" and it makes people laugh !! Love it!!

  • coach: caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaant stand him.

    Lela: caAAAaAaAnt StaaAndim

    XDDDlol epic

  • ROFLOL this is the best part of the movie. And Lina singing. She's such a dumb character, but VERY funny.

  • And I can't stanem, classic!

  • Jean Hagen is my absolute favorite actress in this movie! She was so funny and brilliant that even my 14 year old will actually sit and watch this incredible musical. Everyone is so wonderful in this film, but Jean Hagen was a scene stealer. I have two favorites of this film, this scene and the Cyd Charisse (green dress) and Gene Kelly dance sequence.

  • and she had a realy nice deep voice .... but not many people know.... she is wonderful.....

  • It's ironic that Debbie Reynold's speaking voice is actually a little squeaky, so in the dialogue dubbing scenes it was actually Jean dubbing Debbie dubbing her!

"It makes us feel as though our hard work ain't beein vain for nothing."

  • I know..... that was the ideea....

  • Jean Hagen was wonderful...she steals every scene she's in...

    so funny... c a-a-a-a-n' t lol...

I didn't know she could actually sing well, too.

  • So funny! I love this movie! Welle done!

  • My dream role lol

  • LOL! i love this! i quote it all the time with my sister in law!

  • Classic!

  • the whole movie is sheer perfection ..all of it..but this is the scene that always makes me piss in my pants!! Jean Hagen with that accent was a joy and a total delight not only to watch but to listen to!! and she practically stole the show from eveyone ....and that's not easy with a trio like Kelly-Reynolds-O'Connor and the wonderful Cyd Charisse!! That's all! I 'cayyyn't' go on: must watch this clip again!!

  • Hahha this is hilarious!

  • love this xD

  • gosh i just spend 10 minutes looking for this

im so happy i finally FOUND IT!

this is my fave part of the movie

    it's so hilarious

    "can't"

    "Cayynn't"

    lmfao

  • this is my favourite bit from the whole film, i laugh EVERY time i watch it. class!

  • Was Lina Lamont from Brooklyn or Hoboken? Priceless! Thank you!

  • Best Movie Ever. Jean Hagen is a delight!

  • Sarah Palin practicing for the "debate."

  • Don't insult Jean Hagen like that!

  • HILARIOUS ~ JEAN HAGEN was wonderful in

    this role...

  • Thanks for posting, I've been looking for this. Such a pure joy and Lina steals the show (Together with Kozmo)!
