As stated, on today's hardware, you won't see much difference. Other problem is, if the computer is badly shut down and decides to run chkdsk at boot, you'll have a totally black screen for half an hour. You can turn off and on as much you want, you still won't see anything, go mad, then decide the computer is broken and go buy parts. Then have a nice thought about those geniuses in Redmond.
this is stupid, even if it doesnt cause problems, it still takes about the same time to start up windows but instead of that screen, its just a dark screen instead...i tried...

I measured and this just made the XP booting 2 seconds faster on my computer! I have AMD X2 4800+ with 2Gb ram and SATA II hard drive.
