Hi, I know first hand the "dolphin" or "whistle" type of sound is not the antilag system, nor the wastegate because it only happens when he lets go of the gas pedal. Its a BOV for sure now if there is anyone out there that could please point me into where they get or the brand of those BOVs that would be great.

@jasaircraft The "twitter" type sound your hearing is caused by a reverse air flow through the compressor section of the turbocharger. WRC cars run without a DV or BOV as these would negate the effect of the Anti-Lag. You can achieve the same noise on a road car by removing the DV/BOV and blocking the associated pipework. On a standard road car though this can cause lag and/or damage to the turbocharger itself.

I may be wrong.. but i believe the reason for alot of the backfires is alot due to antilag... basicly pumping fuel through the engine to keep the turbo spooled, as well at a higher degree of ignition retard and valve overlap... these are all things that could add to the sounds your hearing...these cars arnt built to be practical and reliable... so the standard for engine control is much different to a street car.. I could be completely off. but from my knowledge.. it seems to make sence to me!

running slightly rich hmm, afr's off slightly? heard a couple backfires, must've built up some raw fuel on the pipes. and lmao at the "blow off valve is external waste gate there is no such thing as electronic blow off valve" comment.... dont think i need to explain the difference, theres plenty of educated subaru enthusiasts commenting on here already. take some time and read a little on forced induction engine system basics before commenting next time so you dont look as dumb;)

@jimellaandrea a "blow off valve" is NOT an external waste gate. a waste gate is on the exhaust side of the turbo, the BOV is on the boost side. and YES there are electronic BOVs and electronically controlled waste gates.

that is not a blow-off valve. its the antilag system which keeps the turbo spooled during off throttle sections for full power when you hit the power
