I think there should be a policy to discourage the holding of the Games in any jurisdiction that doesn't grant full equality to LGBT people (with civil unions as a minimum) and in any country for which special waivers have to be sought for international LGBT travelers to get visas. That wouuld mean, of course, discouraging having them in the USA, at least for the time being.

Lots of gay people play sport, lots of sports people are gay - few pro sports people are openly gay because many sports are homophobic.
But the Gay Games allows *anyone* to take part (gay, straight, bi or transexual) in over 32 sports and to achieve their personal best.

Take a good look at what is really happening around the planet, us gay people are more excepted than ever before, but as we all know there is still distaste for us in cities and countries. We owe a lot to the 60s and 70s revolution. Alot of the distaste that still exists has a lot to do with religions, they see us as non breeders (all to do with taxes and money)

@homogenic: I'm living in Cologne since 1993 and in relation to other cities and countries Cologne IS a TOLERANT city...After Berlin You will find the greatest gay community here. In many streets you can see gay and lesbian pairs everywhere. AND: Many people from all over the world are living here without great problems.

@tausendstein I agree it is a very tolerant city indeed.. I got married in Koeln in 2003, it is the gay capital of Germany and the most friendly German city I have ever visited. Much more friendly than Berlin and a more vibrant gay scene...

I was there for the gay games & I am in Koeln almost every other weekend, we have an apartment just off the ring on Roon Strasse.
What do you find intolerant about such a beautiful place?
It has a massive gay community and is the most friendly city In Germany in my experience...
Why do you think I married a man from Koeln and have my second home in the city :)

Good reason as to why Montreal was originally chosen as the host city, Inter. But the Outgames has been generated as a result, so that is a good thing.

Good ad. I'm in Chicago, where the Gay Games 2006 are underway. I think there should be a policy to discourage the holding of the Games in any jurisdiction that doesn't grant full equality to LGBT people (with civil unions as a minimum) and in any country for which special waivers have to be sought for international LGBT travelers to get visas. That wouuld mean, of course, discouraging having them in the USA, at least for the time being.
