Susan puts too much "American south" in her music. I feel like Angela Aki's Japanese version has more genuine feel and emotion as if the song came from her very existence. This has emotion but no comparison to Angela Aki's.
@justa16thnote American south? What does that even mean? And she's from Detroit, in the North. So if you mean it sounds sourthern, then you have never heard Kelly Clarkson or Miranda Lambert sing. That's south.
@jae149 You can be from somewhere but influenced by somewhere else. Example: Nobuo Uematsu's greatest influence is Elton John. Most of his big compositions for video games like this are influenced by Elton John and then made his own with his eastern feel on the music.
Also, Susan Calloway's biggest influences are mostly southern singers. I mean south like southern hip-hop, country, jazz. Even in America, music can be geographically (for lack of a better word) divided.
@Alchemical: I was at the Chicago 2009 and 2011 concerts. The only mistakes I heard were forgivable - you can't stop something involuntary like a cough, even if you want to read into it and say they weren't breathing properly.
The important thing is she doesn't miss a beat and keeps singing like nothing happened. Live performing is not a place to expect perfection. If you want that, buy the CD :D
I really like Susan but... She's always made huge mistakes each time I've seen her. I wonder why that is? Sure, every live performance will have it's mistakes.. But she's very prone to them. Anyone else see the Chicago 2011 concerts? Case in point. She was the same in 2009 too.
Wait... why wasn't this song in the album ? Did they forgot to include it ? Or maybe they decided to make her sing this song after they recorded the album...
@RadicalDreamer17 The album is pre-recorded. What is live isn't always on the album. Think of it as a band that's made their CD's to sell as merch, but you probably won't get the live one unless that particular concert was live.
Though I love Susan Calloway's versions of Suteki Da Ne and Melodies of Life as much as I love the originals, I prefer Angela Aki singing Kiss Me Goodbye.
Uhhh I don't like how she sings the lines a fragment before the original. It's as if that's the only way she can think of to make the song her own. She does have a great voice but I think the premature singing just doesn't work and upsets the sweetness of this song. I hope it's performed better in London as this is my absolute favourite Final Fantasy song along with Eyes on Me. <33
@Castlegrrl its soooo great! i watched it in San francisco just on friday. it was definitely worth it. but her best song i think was memoria de la stona~distant worlds. do you get that song on your day?
I think angela aki feels understated but is more polished, I prefer her version.

@carolillo You're free to disagree and not appreciate her performance, but not to be disrespectful by swearing at an artist who's done no harm to you

I didn't know there was another version of Kiss Me Good Bye. Is there's a soundtrack on this?

Compare to Angela Aki's version. I like this one better. Susan's voice just feels more sincere. But both are great singers. =D
