  • I remember when this was on Mtv - HELL I remember when MUSIC was on Mtv.

  • yip, you're old

  • Whats so rare with it? You can find it on Poguevision vhs or dvd...

  • forgive me for my naivety or ignorance but is this song in the melody of curragh of kildare.

  • Yep, Shane took all kinds of irish melody bits and lyrical references to create his songs. Kind of reminds me of Woody Guthrie, lots of these songs sound familiar, and then we realize why.

  • This is a wicked tune, fuckin dogs bein lost to yuppies. Walthamstow is gone now aswell. Kilburn is turning into fuckin yuppie hinterland. Kilburn is to Paddies what Brixton is to afro-carribean culture: full of fuckin middle class wankers, lol.

  • Dude...I always loved this video. Interesting visuals and it doesn't obscure the story told in the song. Well done!!

  • IT'S NOT RARE!

I'v got this on the widely available video/DVD "Poguevision"

  • I meant on the web.

Sure it is on Poguevision, but not everybody can buy it. Even more, Poguevision is only on PAL system, so only Europeans can listen it.

  • This is definately my favorite Pogues song!!!!

...maybe because of that pub scene in State of Grace...or any fucking pub I've been to...& it's played!

  • remember that scene alright, gary oldman is class in that movie, surprised the moron yanks didnt play a U2 song in that scene like the they did in that movie BLOWN AWAY. idiots

  • Thank you for posting. Sla'inte!!

  • Great band. Shane's awesome. In the Sean Penn movie, State of Grace, this song is playing in the background in the first pub scene.

  • Amazing what you can do with the tune of 'The Curragh of Kildare' cranked up to 3 times its original speed. Go raibh maith agat Antoine! ... only a Paddy could write such a great song about a pack of underfed deluded dogs running after a stuffed hare :->

  • Bloody wonderful. My favourite Pogues track. I do hope this one lasts on YouTube a bit longer than previous ones I've favourited.

  • classic!

  • many a night I spent down the old White City cheers for posting this

  • The Pogues RULE!!

  • Great song....best video

  • Wow. Haven't seen this in ages. I co-directed this video with Peter Dougherty. For the scenes with the large photocopied greyhound we donated money to Battersea Dog's Home and filmed a beautiful dog called Daisy. We made full size photocopies of each frame of film, cut them out and animated them a frame at a time. Very old school indeed. It was my first job after leaving college. Pretty frightening, since we also produced the piece. But I think it came out quite well.

  • No way ! :O

Well, if you're really the one who co-directed that videoclip, fucking congratulations mate ! :O

And thanks a lot for the greatest clip of all times ! ^^

  • Thanks for those kind words. The video didn't get much airplay at the time. I always thought it was a great song and should have been a big hit. Thanks to youtube I guess it can be.

  • Totally agree with you mate !

Thanks for this great clip !

    Slainte !

  • You co-directed this video? Cool!

    Outstanding job.

  • Thanks again. We shot all the photocopied animated stuff at Middlesex Poly on 16mm. To be honest I'd never listened to their music till I got the gig - but I immediately became a fan once I did. Great days.

  • awesome this is one of my favourite videos!!!

this is so wierd though like seriously how many people are down to earth enough to comment on youtube about something like this

    well done!

  • This video always stayed with me over the years. I saw it in highschool (the late80's) when MTV was good. I'm a cinematographer now and thought about this video as a reference for a movie sequence I'm working on. Nothing like doing it "the old way" in camera. This made my day.

    -h

  • Here, in MTV Brazil, i only watched this video one time in 1998 and he was in my head since this day. Congratulations, a real music video from the times they made real songs.
