  • Hi! Can you use that tool in putting the bearing back in?

  • @bootsyng - No, that tool only pulls the bearing off. The bearing should be installed in the case, not on the shaft (at least on vertically split cases). You need out "Tusk crank puller/Installer tool" for that.

  • Mantep bro

  • i dont understand wht crank means... there is a guy wants to sell a bike n he told me the crank is broken ... can anyone explain to me? thanks.

  • @Emad5501 - if he is refering to the crankshaft, that is pretty serious. complete tear down and engine rebuild.

  • @RockyMountainATVMC Thanks but I don't know, he told me it gets fixed for 2400 Dhs, so that's about $660 US Dollars, it doesn't coast as an engine rebuild, any idea?

  • @RockyMountainATVMC here u go the link; rak.dubizzle.com/classified/motorcycles/sport-bike/2011/8/23/yamaha-r1-crank-broken--11/

  • @Emad5501 - page not found - sorry.

  • I have a gear puller with three arms. I use it to pull timing chain gears off the crankshaft of small block Chevy's. It looks like it may do this job too, only if the arms have enough reach.

  • How do you do it without that tool? Cheers :)

  • @woodydasotonman - To do it right, I would get the tool.

  • @THCProductions420 - You need to check out our bottom-end rebuild videos. Of course we have the best prices!!

  • how the freak do i replace the connecting rod and bearing nobdody shows this done i need to replace the connecting rod rod bearing and pin on my kawi

  • @tbirdpimp07 - with a press, press the pin out of the crank, then press the new one in. Then you need to put the crank on a truing stand and balance the crank.

  • How much HP is that engine's crankshaft rated? What engine model is that?

    Best Regards

  • @jmightybauer2 - I think that crank was off a Honda 300ex. No idea on HP.

  • could you plz answer me back PLZ I NEED HELP... My ds 650 starts very well and idles extremely well! But when i go riding about 25 secounds of riding it she stalls whit a screaming noise... so what im thinking since de 2000ds 650 model haves bushing and not bearings in the connecting rod so when the bike gets hot the bushing sticks on the crank and makes that loud noise and sudenly stalls...thats what im thinking does this make sence? PLZ HELP ME

  • you could have just put it in the oven for a while and would drop off without yanking it off with tools, its cheaper and a lot less effort and makes more sense. but thanx for showing us how to use the tool.

  • @123edsta you're right dude!, I just did that last night. 100c for 30 mins ought to do it, cooked to perfection :D

  • @123edsta - Thanks for your comment. You may have lucked out if that worked. If you could just heat the bearing, It would work more often. However, heat causes the bearing and the crank is expand together, not just the bearing. If it works for you, great. If not, this tool is the way to go.

  • @123edsta you are really stupid

  • i have a 1987 cr 80 and when i had the jug and top end out i could push the rod side to side. is that bad? but no up and down play. also i was told that it was very expensive for crank bearing installation because you have to get it pressed in there? can you tell me about that.

  • @worldskater31 - Side-to-side play is ok (your manual should give you an idea on how much). The up-and-down is the critical part to check - there should be no play there. If there is play, the lower rod bearing, rod, and pin need to be replaced. The Pin is pressed into each side of the crankshaft. Most shops will charge an hour of labor to do this, because it can be tricky and because it needs to be balanced, which takes time and practice. Or buy a complete crank assembly from us!

  • i have a 2003 rm100 im changing the main bearings and i want to know if the bearing go in the case or pressed on the crank or it dont matter

  • @mustanggt998 - Put in the case first, them the crank pulled into the bearings.

  • i have 2003 rm 100 im changing main bearing i want to know if i put the bearing in the case or pressed on the crank or it dont matter

  • @mustanggt998 - You will want it in the case first, not on the crank.

  • that's a lot of work when they don't stay in the cases

  • tusk has alot of awesome tools. lol

  • Hey RockyMountain, I love your videos and website. However I have a question about the "frequent buyers points" on your website.

Although I used to have around 700-800 points added up, I just checked and I have 365 points now. Whats up with that? Does the frequent buyers points reset after each new year?

    Thanks,

    Jimmy

  • @yourmom922 - you are asking the wrong guy. I am the tech guy. Go online and talk to someone on Live Chat in the sales department or call 800-336-5437. i am sure they can help you out.

  • ok thank you

  • ok mate keep it in mind,i have most tools including press micrometre V blocks etc,i am a hgv mechanice by trade these bikes can be tricky enough your videos are most helpful. thanks

  • Hi Eric can you do a video on how to remove conrod from crank and how to refit and balance.great videos i want a job whit you guys you know your shit.

  • Installing a connecting rod isn't something the average guy with average tools can do. you need a press and the tools to balance the crank. i don't think I will ever get the time to do that video since I have a huge list I would like to do but can't find time. I appreciate your comments and suggestions though.

  • I have seen alot of videos, but none on connecting rod bearings or How or Where to get the Crank balanced on my two stroke 50cc. I have had numerous cranks but where do you go to get them balanced?? Do your shop do this? Thanks , great videos. RH DSD

  • Rebuilding your crank is probably a little too advanced for what we are doing here. There are machine shops that specialize in rebuilding and balancing crank assemblies.

  • Before you seperate your cranks take a mesurment from one crank to the other. Once you put them back make sure you have the exact mesurment or mesurment from from your sevrice manual. Then put the crank shaft on v-blocks and make it is dialed to specs with a dialindicator.

  • @andrew125cr - That is a procedure that requires a press, and a bunch of tools to balance the crank. I don't think I will be doing it anytime soon, but will add it to the list. thanks!

  • I think regardless what happen's after bearing's are off.The main issue is removing them from the crank. This tool Is a must For any one Removing these type of bearing's. regular.

  • Also, once the bearings are on, is it hard to get them in the crankcase?

  • You put the bearing into the case. This is worst case removal scenario.

  • Correct. you only need to pull the bearing off the crank if the bearing sticks to the crank. hopefully the bearing stays in the case.

  • ohhhhh ok.-----so that would mean the tricky part is to pull the case together, once the bearings are in---as shown in the "bottom end rebuild part 3" video. Not sure if an auto part store would have something for that or not. I guess if I have trouble, I could take it to a bike shop. Chinese scooter though, no one likes to work on them...LOL

  • Is it hard to put the new bearings on?????Help please. Do I need a tool to put them on?

  • It's a great tool but I saw some recommendation that in addition you should heat the bearing with a buthane torch to expand it and make it slide off without grooving the crank. In this case it came off easily but some bearings are badly stuck

  • on a quad how would you know if your bearings are bad?? i am getting a loud banging noise (not a ticking noise) comming out from the crank case area.. is it possible that its the bearings?

  • it could be the bearings. Take the magneto cover off and grab the flywheel. Try to wiggle it straight up and down. If you feel free-play, your main bearings are shot. The only way to check the rod bearing is to remove the cylinder and try to wiggle the rod straight up and down.

  • Thanks for posting these! as a 2T newb, the vids are super-helpful!

  • It didn't hurt the bearing in the slightest bit. Besides, once you are this far into tearing a bike apart, why wouldn't you use new bearings anyway???

  • No, I would use new bearings, but I wanted to find out if you guys thought pulling on bearings like that weakens them. Just in case I needed to reuse one that I pulled. Thanks. I would use new though.

  • excelent...

  • either get this or a welding torche or the oven heat the bearings up i just might get this or the welding torche i am going to remove some of a honda cb750 crank shaft i got to buy like $60 woth of bearings

  • Well if your replacing a bearing why not cut it off with an angle grinder?

  • Or do it the easier way and eliminate the risk of grinding into your crank by following the directions in the video instead. Grinding a bearing off a crank would be a pain in the ass.

  • lol i like the way you think.

  • Now i know how this tool works. thanks.

  • I have had some bearings on so tight that I can't imagine any other way of removing them without damaging the crank.

  • there are some that just fuse/weld there self's on the crank , and sometimes heating it up with a rosebud -oxy acetylene torch is the only way

    but these sure are nice

    great vid

  • could u get it off with out those?
