This was kind of a weird moment in the movie. Doesn't really advance the plot but you do feel a little sorry for McGoohan who is kind of an a-hole in this story.
that columbo does not answer in the affirmative to the suggestion that he'll hang up his 'uniform' when people stop abusing each other means either that he thinks that people will never stop doing so, and therefore that the question of hanging it up will never arise, or that he knows himself well enough to know that if people were to stop abusing each other, he would not hang it up, it being such an ingrained part of himself; that he'd find a way to keep wearing it. so he changes the subject.
Another great episode, and McGoohan is first-rate. But I'll betcha can't guess my very favorite episode. Wonderful interplay and plot. I think it's overlooked. I'll even give you a clue, I'll even give you a clue.
Theres lots of negative instincts in people but not everyone acts on them. The greedy in any age wether it was a gang or a corporation, have had no problem using violence to take what they want from others!
There was a reason that McGoohan,Jack Cassidy,& Robert Culp were guest murderers at least 3 times or more on this show.Because they were GREAT actors! One would think today that,oh ,he's on there again, but back then they played such different characters each time that you really didn't think about it. BTW,Robert Culp was the 1st to be"guest murderer" 3 times on Columbo. And all on the first three years of the show!
A poignant ending; Patrick McGoohan deserved to have gotten away with it. Memorable line: "Don't expect me to be contrite Lieutenant. It had to be done and I would do it again...A final moment with my men?"
People have been fighting wars long before there were corporations and long before George Bush and Dick Cheney were born. Cliches about "CorpoRat War Mongers" merely avoid the unpleasant truth that the instinct for tribal violence is inside all of us.
PETER!!! His name in the series is actually "Frank".... check out the episode "Dead Weight" starring Eddie Albert ("Green Acres'), Columbo shows his ID and if you zoom in, you can see his signature.
Patrick McGoohan and Peter Falk are best friends in real life

I'v seen this one over and over and it's intriguing each time.
Anyone know the actual name of this military school? Haynes Hall is in several shots and it's my family name!
Peter Falk came to my work years ago and he really does walk that way!
Thanks for the clip!

Culp was my favourite killer. The one where he made subliminal cuts in a movie and Columbo outwitted him was the greatest.

That WAS very good! Robert Culp is a great actor! Kudos also to William Shatner, twice a "Guest Murderer"!

Peter Falk is a pro. Oh sir...just one more thing!

Brilliant. Falk was never so black, McGoohan never so white.....or was it the other way around?
