  • We must start planting other tree species from other continents and establishing the pollinators and pathogen-predators along with them. As our native trees are destroyed, we can replace them with other species that already have resistance to the temperatures and insects and fungi that we have imported.

  • this has been happing in u.s since the late70s and early 80s and is still going on sadly

  • what BC needs is a forest fire. BC needs to limit it's logging. I don't understand why they allow the destruction of their forest for short term employment.

  • @noleftturnunstoned bc has no shortage of forest fires...watch the news at all in the last decade? What did logging have to do with MPB? Forestry has been employing people in this province for a hundred years, and will continue to for hundreds more. How is that short-term employment?

  • That Judy Simms chick is kinda hot, in a old lady kinda way. None of the Pine Beatle videos on youtube have more than a few hundred views. kayne West being rude has more than 2 million in a few days.

  • "Risley Equipment has developed an innovative method to control further spread of pine beetle populations with a product that chips the infected tree as a means to increase mortality rates and decrease the further reproduction of the beetle in the next season.

For more information see video " Risley Rolly Chipper" on YouTube"

  • Bring in some woodpeckers.

  • OMFG i saw that 4real!

    (its a real prob)

  • Sad for the trees, good for the treeplanters! :)

  • Actually the real issue will become that there will be dead trees that aren't viable in the mills. So the trees will just be left.... No planting.... HUGE fire risk.

  • good for the tree planters... you stupid hippy

  • The pine beetle epidemic is a natural cycle that occurs around every 200 years. There is written evidence from the 1840's which describes axaclty what is happening now, even the warmer winters in the interior.

  • I have to 100% agree with you!! This is natures way of cleansing itself, its happened in the past, and it shall happen again!

  • The loggers arent abusing their rights, they are caught in the middle of the game between the ministry of forests and the huge tenure holders such as canfor for example. Sadly in this industry money makes the decisions of what gets logged and what doesnt. As long as the huge corporations are willing to purchase prime green timber from the government havesting of other species rather then the beetle attacked pine will not stop.

  • The loggers are by far abusing their logging rights when harvesting species other than the dead pines.

  • Um I hate to tell you but the battle with the pine beetle is lost. Done, gonzo. No point in fighting. The new fight is Fir Bark Beetle and the Spruce Bud worm. If we act NOW we MIGHT be able to save the mid-term fibre supply. If not, the mid term fibre supply will be wiped out.

  • You are a moron if you honestly believe that. The pine stands are beyond recover for most mills to make a board out of. Unless more OSB plants are created, Pine itself will be extinct within the next 10-15 years. When the Pine Beetle infestation started, they (the beetles) were targetting only large trees in the stands. This year i've seen hundreds of thousands of trees ranging from heights of only 10-12 feet being hit. They are getting desperate. Do some research before you speak.

  • well heres an idea log the dam trees use them for the dam reason they grow use the recources manage the forests the way it was ment to be befor the dam owl craze and the green peace idiots you people make it harder on us loggers to do our jobs and then you general puplic people worry or the pine trees o what will we do cut the dam things down and use the wood befor they rot
