  • how to get the full concert?

  • Can you tell me all the songs in this concert that James sang. There were a few I didn't reconize?

  • David Gates and Bread blow me away every time I hear one of their songs. Beautiful arrangements and soft, soaring vocals; I just love this stuff.

  • In Thailand we say he is like a coconut....the older it gets the more cream it produces.....Amazing how he sings even he is quite old now!

  • Love him. Saw his concert 14 year ago in hong kong

  • the real guitar man.

  • It's a shame that today they have to go looking for talent...like on American Idol btw I never watch...instead of the talent coming on the radio out of the blue like it used to do. I'm so thankful I grew up with this music and was a teenager in the 70's. I get so teary eyed when I hear this and Aubrey too. all of David Gates' music affects me this way.

  • @magpieeye i agree - i was teen in 70s too - 52 yrs old now!! We didnt realize what beautiful music we had then. Oldies from 60s 70s 80s is all I listen to now.

  • I miss the 70s ! Music was at its best ! None can beat the 70s music ! Today's music - auto tune , lip sync , reality shows ,synthesizers , weird voice like lady gaga , Rihanna , britanny spears , biebers ..blaaah!!!

  • I've always loved David Gates & Bread ! Went to his concert 11 yrs ago and his voice and the music is so wonderfully beautiful ! This is what I call a classic ! The group & songs will be heard for generations to come !

Voice still perfect , looks still as handsome !!

  • No. Larry Knechtel took Robb Royer's place when Royer left the group.

  • Wasn't Larry Knecktel an original member?

  • 1036kid: You forgot James Taylor.

  • cre8ifsage: I am guessing that the reason the camera is focused on David is because he's the lead singer.

  • jyarose: I'm 26 and absolutely love this song! I like a lot of older music like this. I don't care if anyone thinks I'm old-fashioned, if music is good, I'll love it, no matter how old it is. This song and group are awesome!

  • He sounds amazing. What impresses me as well, is that he is actually singing and playing his guitar. He's not lip-synching like a lot of today's "musicians." What you're hearing is David Gates live, not David lip-synching to a pre-recorded performance. I really like that. The song is amazing as well.

  • wallyworldusa: I don't see what the big deal is with his attire. If he wants to wear western attire, so be it. I've seen "performers" wear a lot worse and a lot less and frankly sound A LOT worse (i.e. Rihanna, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, and the various Hip-Hop "artists"). What matters, at least to me, is that David's music and performance is AWESOME! I absolutely love this song! Keep on David! You're one of the last great hopes in this current musical environment.

  • gravano2: Yes, this is an awesome song and an awesome performer. For him to be in his 60s and still sound so good is amazing. Sorry, I wasn't born when Bread debuted. I was born 10 years after this song came out, but have heard on certain oldies stations when I'm with my parents. I love this song! This is REAL talent, unlike the ones you hear today. This was probably when record labels nurtured their talent to become better, unlke today's "artists" and show winners (i.e. American Idol).

  • David Gates what a singer/ songwriter... definitely up with the best of them, wish I had seen them live. Brilliant!!

  • He still sounds good after all these years.

  • woooow j'adoooooore! this is certainely the best song i know & the nicest singer

  • yes ..BREAD is a pure class..

  • would love too see that whole concert

  • I had been in touch with Mike Botts (drummer) prior to this tour and asked if they would be doing their rocker single "Let Your Love Go" he replied with "no, that's one's a bitch to play on the drums"..RIP MIKE, JIMMY and LARRY. This 1997 tour included a full orchestral ensemble. just an outstanding performance. Hard to believe this '97 tour has never been commercially and professionally released.

  • REAL music

  • awesome!!! David Gates...great voice, song and person. good post.

  • The singer/songwriter genre is back in full force now. The likes of Ray LaMontagne and others are bringing intelligent meaningful music to this generation. David Gates was one of the pioneers. Good stuff!

  • @bangels6 along with james griffin,, you can't count breads work without him.. rip

  • well wat can i say .......... apart from sorry fucking fantastic

  • Pls David you never ever can die.We need you forever!! We can die but not you. :)

  • i love this song it takes me back when i was younger and he is a really good singer and also puts effort into his vocals and also personality when he sings...not many singers do that today...its all money money money...

  • RIP Mike Botts.

  • COME GET ME BABY RUP RUP

  • @TheSquawlady BABY, JUST PERFECT MY LOVE,,I LOVE YOU SO MUCH XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX THANK YOU MY LOVER

  • @ruprup69bang THANKYOU MY HONEY...IM TRYING SO HARD........HA HAAAAAA..IM VERY TRYING ARENT I MY BABY.....

  • Listening to his music from back in the 70's, his voice is just as clear, clean and beautiful as it was some 25 years prior. Brings back great memories!

  • music to time travel by

  • Superb! Where can I get a copy of this whole concert?

  • only one thing u can say pure class

  • R.I.P. Jimmy

     Mike Larry

  • very talented guy,awesome voice!!

  • Man how I miss 70's easy listening. Beats the ever loving SHEET out of the garbage they call "music" today!!!

  • He sounds just as good as back in the 70s.to cool.

  • 13 dislike?are their aliens?or just out of this world.

this songs shows the example of the beauty of music!

    i love david gates!my bread!

  • Thank you so very very much for this post... I love this man and this group. Look how happy he is.... gives me chills...

  • Thank you so very very much for this post... I love this man and this group

  • Baby, you still have it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WOW!....

  • Happy Belated Birthday, David. I have the same birthday as you! born in 1957 though. How time flies. You still have the same great voice. I still think you are young!

  • Sappy but super. Have a few of their 45's.

  • Stil, so good!!!

  • 11 Dec 2010 - Happy birthday, dear David, and many happy returns. Any time you want to come back from retirement, we will all welcome you with open arms and hearts. Love you lots.

  • his songs brings back memories and it makes me cry...

  • lets keep it going david, youre still the man cp

  • the older he gets the better he is

  • Pure magic, pure class. Still makes my skin shiver even after all these years.

  • @uxb59 Same

  • note that David Gates is the only surviving member of Bread now. They had a guest bass player and lead guitarist for the tour. They were well set up for a great great tour. Wonderful performers. Great material like this. Vocals of David and James go together so beautifully.

  • @georgebur - technically, there are still two - Robb Royer is alive and well and doing lots of good things in Nashville. He produces a lot of talent and was a founding member of Bread. He met David while working with The Pleasure Fair - a fun album to lisen to if you can find it.

  • An amazing song!

  • i want to make it with her:(

  • This is 'pure' American music from the 70's and is classic. Many artists today could learn a lot from not only David Gates but other great song writer/singers from the past. It used to be that music was about music and songs were about something....today I can't hear the music and the lyrics made absolutely no sense! I'd love to hear music, melody, harmony, and also good lyrics make a comeback!

  • Bread played at my high school dance in 1969 - had never heard of them - and the following year they were all over the radio - it was an amazing night - never forgot em after that

  • Bread played at my high school dance in Seattle in 1969 - had never heard of them - never forgot them after - amazing

  • I saw Bread twice in the 70s. Great band. Sad to hear David's the only one of the group still living.

  • A HOT title as such without any vulgarity but a simple, gentle song that gets its' point across beautifully. This is music to fall in love with!

  • best record

  • Excellent Song! For years I had tried to find out who sang it, but learned only about five years ago who it was.

  • David Gates (& band) toured Australia about 4 years ago. I never saw the band when they were famous in the 70's. Although David joked about the fact that had he known he would be singing the same songs 30 years on he would have lowered the top range ... he still sounded great. . He played 75% of his biggest hits, & as a treat played "clouds' ! although I had a great night i must admit I spent a lot of it in tears ! ..as the music brought back many memories.

  • Wow he sounded better than he did 20 years before ! One of my top 5 fave songs of all time !

  • What's up with the cowboy hat is he bald like Garth Brooks now?

  • Absolutely one of my favorite groups in the very early 70's - I listen to their "Greatest Hits" album all the time, even almost 40 years later. Great, classy, hook-laden songs that don't have to have a warning label on them.

  • Sad. Only David is alive. the keyboardist passed away earlier this year from a heart attack, and the other guitarist (and drummer) both died from Cancer.

  • I like this song .. good performance

  • snowy8899

  • This is so great to see. I was 13 when this was first a hit and I still remember all the words. Bread On The Water was one of my favourite albums. Great to hear he still has such a sweet voice. Thanks for the upload.

  • Amazing, so sorry I never got to see them in concert live. Thanks so much for posting this..Bread 4ever!

  • i'm 33 yrs old from Philippines. The first CD that i bought from my first salary was david gates & bread essentials. I really love their songs too. Are they still alive?

  • @AfraidOfKryptonite Gates is the only one still living.

  • is this video commercially available? I would like to have this! Bread has great influence on my music life..

  • The guitar guy knows his stuff....

  • Love it!!!!!!!

  • bread forever!!!!

  • His voice didnt changed at all.....love this song so much....i will not get of tired of this beautiful song.....

  • Wow, even if he is old now, he still sound like the old days...Bread make their history, and their songs will live forever... David Gates is one of the most talented... I hope other singers just don't sing, they should make their own song and play instrument on their own...that will be considered as talent...

  • amazing....Gates sounds as good as ever. And though many consider the song to be sappy, I think it's one of the most beautiful songs EVER.

  • Bread,Pure class

  • I got to meet David when we were both going thru basic trainging at Ft Ord in 71 I had just completed it and was waiting for asecurity clearance ans was working CQ He came in and shyly asked if it might be ok to use my phone, I said sure. When he fiinished he said he appreciated being treated so decent (they harass the shit out of you at the start of basic) then asked if i knew the group Bread..I said sure and he smiled and I recognized him

  • @Danimalization Your name should be "dramatization" since you so easily lie. David Gates was never in the military, much less in 1971 when Bread was already famous.

  • @7188181 Sorry fools David did basic at Fort Ord in 1971 for National Guard duty. He came into the CQ office with hs friend and used the phone to set up a gig in Montery that weekend. So what if Bread was already famous idiot?, he faced the draft like eveone else and being in Bread wouldnt prevent induction then, all deferments like college were gone .

  • @7188181 You know people like you showing your ignorance and lack of manners is why the time back the had a much higher claiber of charcter and class and the lack of such now is covered over with immature displays of assumptions that you then think entitles you to make ignorant opinons and why the character of this country has gone to the shit hole

  • there is a black group touring flour bluff texas-exact sound alike sound. they`re called TOAST

  • no one cares

  • A new band named Manna will soon be touring inMinnesota-exact sound alike band--no kidding. Will update with more info when available.

  • Comment removed

  • whoa could you watch the off-color language there...surely you can say something nice...

  • @MrBreadmaker1 Check out David In Concert web site for demo of david gates sound alike

  • @MrBreadmaker1 Used a Thompson vocal eliminator VE4 in Mpls studio in Nov 2009 Will be doing solo concerts soon and one band is ready will be doing full concerts in Minnesota auditoriums under the name Manna

  • all time favorite!

  • Still has great voice...

  • Both Mike Botts and James Griffin died? Sorry to hear that. I saw Bread perform at Bloomington, Illinois and Champaign, Illinois years ago. Always liked David Gates voice.

  • Larry Knectal passed away a few month's ago also. Great band, Bread-

  • good god. i was just on another post of these guys the other day, and "someone" had quipped "RIP David" i couldn't believe it. so i asked youtubers to verify. someone posted back, and said, David Gates is NOT dead. I was so pleased to hear that. yes, I already know that James and Mike passed some years ago. now Larry? man, that is a real bummer. 3/4 of one of the greatest love ballad bands ever, gone. i am saddened to hear that. only david left. i know he's in his sixties now

  • I believe one of the founding members, Robb Royer, is still alive. So that makes it 3 of the 5 members have left. David Gates should tour again. His songs and its genre are real classics and are really beautiful and rare nowadays.

  • one of the worlds legendary band!

  • A great song!!!!!!

  • pretty..........

  • Really ironic that Jimmy, Mike and Larry can only be heard but not seen even back in this 1997 concert ... sigh !

  • That's kind of a dumb statement since this is just one song from an entire concert. You thought this was the whole concert?

  • Real talent , not winners of shows or products of managares ,timeless

  • 60's and 70's full of life, happy music, so much fun and the best good time that every generation had wish for........

  • Oh, thanks, I needed to hear this tonight. I had the opportunity to see Bread in Las Vegas on this tour, and what a treat. I had a chance to meet them as well. What a lovely memory....RIP, Larry, Jimmy, and Mike....Take care of yourself, David.

  • I wasn't even in junior high when my dad got this album. But I played the heck out of it. Loved it then and love it now

  • Heard this on the radio today and just had to search YouTube. In the car. listening to the original, I was transported back to Intermedate School in the early 70s. Thank you for psoting this.

  • ahh yes , the you tube time machine , i got several classic channels in my playlist, . . . each for a certain mood , . . . love this technology

  • Loosing our youth seems so sad moving on to the senior years...these songs seem to reach our hearts and make us sad....but we love them...awesome, thankyou

  • Listening to your song brings tears to my eyes booo hoo hoo..so awesome

  • not old!! I was on the go when this came out on vinyl.Still love it. Am now a grandmother. Somethings never change!!

  • thank so much for this VIDEO....i was still in high school then when i first heard this song...so memorable to me...thank you Bread, Thank you David Gates

  • awesome David Gates...old and yet superb

  • i what to make it with you

  • Awesome.

  • oh my god... i love this... good song ever...

  • David Gates e the Bread são otimos é linda a

    canção !!

  • Great music from the past. I remember when this was a hit song when I was a kid, and now I remember how great David Gates, (and Bread) were!

  • nice voice!! as always..

  • The wonderful voice.David Gates . I can remember my past.

  • I was born at least a good 13 years after Bread's height of popularity in the 70s. First song i heard was Baby i'm a want you in that movie Stuck on you. I liked the music so much i went and bought their cd and the first song was make it with you. From that song on, that was my favorite song ever.

  • I would pay a 100.00 a ticket just to see him play.

C'mon do a couple concerts, pick Detroit or chicago and i will be there.

Your awesome, not a better singer, songwriter, arranger in the business ever! The music now doesn't even come close. Your the most talented still in the business. Show them that you still have it! The younger guys could use an example!

  • You're very stupid. First of all, you can't spell and secondly, this song has absolutely no connection to Carole King or James Taylor. And this is not a cover, dumbass.

  • This is the original - David Gates wrote the music and lyrics, sang it and arranged and produced this track for Bread's second album. It was a No. 1 hit in the USA and, I think, No. 5 in the UK. Bread never did cover songs - they wrote all their own material.

  • They are my favourite group in music, they are the best, David Gates & the Bread...

  • Great song to hear on a lazy Sunday:)

  • Wow! he still has that voice.

He sounds just as good as his younger years.

  • Sending continuous chills through me. Love it.

  • What is david gates doing with himself these days? so long since a tour

  • I have a horrible feeling David has retired. After he cancelled a concert, giving family circumstances as the reason, I e-mailed his manager, Selwyn Miller, who said David and his family were fine and that it would be well advertised if he decided to do any further tours or concerts. However, reading between the lines, I think there was a family problem because Selwyn said that David had always known where his priorities were.

  • Thanks for you informative answer and I hope he does decide to tour again!

  • Music Heals Helps Gives Teaches Spirit Hope Peace Etc

Or... It can Destroy. Choose Wisely. =( BREAD )=

  • This is so true - and David's music gives me all the good things. He lives in San Diego - are you him? I can't believe you are, but it would be great if you were!

  • what a flawless voice you don't hear music like this anymore.

  • A time when we had REAL music!!

  • Nossa quem imaginaria q ele ainda catasse tão bem assim depois de tanto tempo, parece q se volta em 1970 sem dívidas

  • Belíssima.....Cancões como esta nos leva a lugares infindáveis!! vero bravo!

  • try also to look at our MTV,"Tamse Remastered"

  • " happiness may come and go but memories last forever.. i missed my teen years, if i could only bring back yesterday... hu hu hu .... i missed my friends, my first love, etc...........

  • Sr. Gates, que buenas canciones siempre!!! Felicitaciones

  • ES UNA BUENA CANCION....

  • With out a doubt one of the best singers ever with great songs that were mostly written by him. My favorite is Diary.

  • God!!!!!!! the memories!!!!!!!!!!! I remeber runaroundig in my Chrysler Cordoba and my Pioneer KP-500!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanx for this Concert Footage!!! Bread, Jim Croce, John Denver, & The Carpenters are some Great Examples of the Softer sound of the 70's

  • all of them were so great..cant find anyone close these days...70's

  • Like a fine wine...Just gets better with time!!!!!

  • David has a great voice and he is a great artist, however whats with the cowboy suit. Either way I still love your work

  • David's attire has been brought up before in the comments and is old news. You talk like he's wearing a clown costume or something. This is America and western attire has been worn by people for around 150 years. Why don't you just go comment on hip hop videos and ask why the gangstas wear pants with their ass crack showing.

  • David is a Rancher up in Northern California...he's a Cowboy at Heart, and thank goodness, because it comes out in his GREAT Music.

  • i like the audio on this clip....got a real good stereo quality to it.

  • Probably the best 70's soft rock bands and still sound the same.

Along with Jim Croce a ray of light in a lame genre.

  • a classic.....

  • absolutely fantastic....david gates is such a pro...sounded as good as the original

  • Fantastic. Thanks for posting.

  • Please,Please,

  • David gates the best!!!!

  • David, si ves esto: estabas por venir a la Argentina y se suspendio. puedes reintentarlo, por favor!! suerte amigo!!Tú música es excelente!!

  • fantasic music!! thanks from ireland. eric

  • so good.........

  • still sounds great, even in 97. Wish i could have heard Aubrey though.

  • Aubrey is also posted. See spock's other videos.

  • wow he sounds like he did in the 70s

  • Happy Birthday David thanks for listening to your dad when he said you should sing and write your songs. Your songs brings Wonderful memories! Sincerely, Doris

  • 11 December - Happy birthday, dear David. You are the best!

  • really thats him?

  • man, his voice is still pure

  • Excellent.

  • I love this! I was at this concert too!

    Susan
