  • yummmy

  • What does Abalone taste like?

I've never tried it.. yet heard of it before ..

  • what would happen if you bit a chunk off of the chunk of meat you had at the end

  • Omg! I wanna cry!!!!!!!!!!!!

U cn eat the black bit!!!! What a waste of food!!! I cnt belivw it! Shit raw straight from the shell is beautiful

U cn also mince it... dice some onionz.... Fry the onion in butter once cooked chuck in paua(abalone) then wait about two minutes on high... Add cream enough to just cover it... Add salt pepper cook until its hot ( dont boil) then thicken with cornflour thats hw us maoriz eat it!!!!

  • So what do you do with everything you cut off? I have head some people put that in soups and stews.

But I have used this method since I saw it and I feel its one of- if not the "ab"solute- easiest way to shuck these guys.

  • actually you dont have to cut the black skin off u just have to soak in in water and use ur fingers to rub away the black stuff

  • brutal... but i bet it was tasty as hell!

  • i swear abalones looks like a pussy

  • @blumaiden

Dude...you must be looking at the wrong pussies then.

  • @blumaiden it may... and it tastes just as good!

  • you can eat those parts :(

  • I am weirded out by this but we live in a world of infinite possibility. I'm sure if I was marooned on an island, this would be very useful knowledge. Thank you for sharing.

  • YES !

  • Wow...there goes 30% of the meat sliced right off to waste.

  • Hey Bigfoot, your method for cleaning these abs is great! Totally revamped what I knew.

That one bloke is right, I would like to find some way to clean it instead of having to cut off so much meat.

  • Damn, that's such a watch of abalone, just clean it with a salane solution and a clean unused dish sponge...

  • @SagaraSouske you dont eat the black bits.. what i want t know is, isnt that thing alive??? cutting it when its alive isnt the kindest way

  • thats a big abalone

  • To those commenting on the cost of abalone: If you catch them yourself, the size limit is 7 inches for the longest shell diameter. Assuming this guy caught this ab himself (and didn't buy it illegally) this one is only about average sized. Farmed abalone tend to be about 3'' across and there is no longer a commercial fishery for wild caught abalone.

They're often prepared like and taste like calamari.

  • lol.. i caught them myself.. actually since i go diving all the time for it, i cant bring myself to buy it ..even when at a sushi place i always want to try different ways, but its so expensive and i tend to always have one in the freezer so eh...

  • wow i never realized they are so big all the ones i see are the dried ones in chinese supermarkets

  • it is expensive, that one is a giant one so it's more expensive, u must me really rich too do that o.0

  • looks sick

  • what does it taste like ?

  • You realize these are endangered, right?

  • the fuck they are

  • Sorry about that, Abalone is the genus

I was thinking of a specific species hunted not for food but for pearls, perlemoen and white abalone.

  • Ha! This guy is hilarious. Listen to him at 2:03 & 2:43

  • hey retard did he say he was finished with it? think next time and do u like eating guts?

  • The guts were in the shell, tard. He said you can scrub most of that off but instead he went the cheap and easy way of just cutting it.

  • And just rip the shit off the abalone.

  • Damn!!!

    That's a BIG Pussy! LOL

  • waste of abalone... you can eat the whole thing.

  • i could and i am sure some people do too.. but before you go judging people answer me this.. when you get a hamburger do you eat the guts? the eyeballs? the testicles? or just the parts you like?

  • never know whats in ground beef at those grocery stores ;)

  • uhh cow or pigs' guts are wholelot different than those of an abalone for your info

so ppl tend to eat abalone guts since its good for your body and theres nothing wrong with it either because the guts are practically grinded seaweed

  • @nugunslinger lol i never knew a hamburger had those parts x3

  • That is great. can't believe I've been doing it the hard way all these years.

  • abalone have other comercial name?

  • i will be updating the video now that i have a new camera...just gotta go diving first.. lol

  • @nugunslinger you are a fucking amateur!!! growing up in nz i have eaten thousands of these, and i have never ever wasted the same amount you've just shown... after shucking, the teeth and shit-bag should be the only waste, the rest is perfectly good for eating (including the black skin)... come to aotearoa and i'll show you how to dive, prepare and cook paua

  • @crabchronic NZ!! OMG -hi5- i miss eating fresh abalone... once, on one of my trips back, i ate so much abalone i almost felt sick. NZ FTW!

  • How you gonna make a video by canceling your account, Mike Goodman Jr?

  • hmm....never tasted abalone...what kinda taste does it have,anyone?

  • very2 tasty, i don't know how to describe the taste, it's like someone's asking to you what does crab meat taste like, altho abalone doesn't taste like crab of course. you should try it

  • This shit should be on Dirty Jobs or something man!

  • i used to take a wire brush to it and get all the black stuff off and eat every last bit, but those parts just arent that good compared to the rest of it, so what you didnt see is what i do with the rest of it. sometimes i throw it in my garden cause the guts and all that other stuff makes for great fertilizer.

sometimes, ill freeze some of it and then before i go fishing, pull it out night before, let it defrost and use it as bait.. im telling ya, its not just humans that love the taste of ab

  • Does Non-Asian love Abalone??

  • you basically wasted a bunch of abalone. all of it is edible. you can get a brush and just rub the black stuff off. no need to trim it off, its such a waste, especially if you cook it. I eat it raw and just wash it and brush off the black stuff. you work so hard to get an ab, its a shame to waste most of it by trimming down to that. but to each his own.

  • what is the small round thing on the top?after removng the fleshwhat reamains in the abalone?

  • cannot eat those part ?

  • is the black stuff inedible?

  • There is a better way of cleaning it without slicing all the pieces. Its wasteful...it would be easier to rub white starch (that you cook with) all over with a rag under the running faucet.

  • post and show us with your own video then, butthead.

    Nice Job, nugunsliger

  • Don't mean to sound disrespectful, but this video looks gross!

  • have you ever cooked?

  • is that how u really say it? a-ba-lo-nee? i always thought it was just a-ba-lone

  • a-ba-lo-nee =]

  • i enjoying eating them every year, but i dont get it becuz they dont have a heart, eyes or mouth?

  • you wasted a lot of that abalone, i just scrub that black stuff off a little and eat it. Taste great

  • can you actually eat/cook the black part? just wondering

  • after he's done there'll be f'all left of that ab..

use steel wool..or baking soda..gets rid of the black shit.

  • We call them Paua here in New Zealand and us Maori eat them whole with the shit bag and all fucking beautiful.

  • nice clicker, you rock pick? UP in Nor-Cal we let 'em get a little bigger! Good job on skinning it. it took me bout 20 ab's to master that technique. member of 10" club? I am!

  • no, i do not rock pick. that is actually harder than just getting in the water.

  • Thanks for the vid.

  • I love albalone soup. It has one of the most satisfying textures along with with oysters.

  • this is a big one you got there..

  • it's called scoring the ab

  • You could sell that and get lots of money

  • yeah like 80 bucks for one, but its illegal

  • its not illegal moron

  • actually selling abalone you caught in the ocean is not only illegal, but it carries with it a $10,000 fine and you can never get another fishing license again. you can sell farmed abalone, but you cannot trade or sell, sport caught abalone.

    check your facts yyyy.

  • Hey yyyy2999, call the abalone hotline (888 334-2258) to see where you can get one, these guys can hook you up. They'll answer the phone as DFG which stands for Dining on Fine Grub.

  • that is one beaut abalone m8y daaaaaaaaam
