  • Lots of answers to that question, but basically all the Metals (stuff in the middle and to the left hand side of the per table LOSE electrons to get an electron configuration like a noble gas (are positive) and the few nonmetals on the right hand side of the table who gain electrons to become like a noble gas (are negative)......

Cool! thanks for the comment, makes it worthwhile...

  • Awesome

  • UR A HERO!

  • YESSS. YESSSSS.

  • From where aluminum and oxygen are on the periodic table those always have charges (as ions) of +3 and -2 , respectively. There are "tricks" to balance the formula for charges (take the 2 from the O and put it after the Al, and the 3 from the Al and put it after the O...) but i prefer to think about it as having to balance the charges so they total zero. Al 2x(+3)=+6 O 3x(-2)=-6 (-6)+(+6)= 0 charges are neutral. (oh, wow,,, sillirabbit... "tricks"... wasn't even trying for that one! :)

  • How would you be able to figure out the formula for a compound?

For example aluminum oxide? How would you know it's Al2O3?

  • I GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU ROCK !

  • How cool is THAT! Thanks for taking the time to comment... Mr. A

  • Thank you!

My Chemistry teacher is a 70-something year old feminine man who's lectures consist of telling us how dumb we are.

75% of my all girl school classmates are failing because of him and we're mainly straight A students.

    :(

  • Hey, i am just glad to hear these help somebody,,,,PLUS, nice to hear SOMEBODY out there is older than I am... most the other teachers in my department could be my kids... :)

  • as soon as my chem class ends, i jump on youtube and search for lectures...my professor is mean and has an accent, and gets super angry if you don't understand what he's saying. it's a nightmare.

  • haha sounds like mine , hes from the eukraines and acts like he knows everything and gets pissed that we dont.

  • @bellamyanne
