I live in the U.S., have health insurance and last week I waited for 7 HOURS to be treated in the ER. I see a specialist and have to book my appointments months in advance. My Canadian friends have relayed a very different experience with their healthcare including my girlfriend who had breast cancer and received excellent treatment, without having to worry about paying a single cent. I think this video is a little skewed.
I have been looking into this for years and even when people KNOW how bad Gov ran healthcare is? They STILL defend it. I don't get it. People DIE because of it! We HAVE to repeal Obamacare. Make sure to VOTE it out this election!!! Let your voice be heard and make your vote count. Vote for ANY candidate that will repeal it and don't vote 3rd party because THAT is a vote for Obama.
Sorry, dude. It's not the rich, it's people who WORK FOR A LIVING and take care of their financial responsibilities that don't include supporting people who make bad choices in life.
@DmanDashit That's the difference between the likes of Canada and Britain and the USA, Canada and Britain put people before profit where as the good ole capitalist US of A thinks money and stuff humanitarians.
With America everything is about $ signs, you don't give a toss about much else in the world.
@MrVillamike oh its dirt cheap in canada because there is none in canada, see in the us its just you paying for it, not everyone around you(taxes), and unlike canada it works. if you relly cared so much about it you would work for it insted of trying to make other people pay for it. me and my family arnt rich and we dont have any problem going to ther doctor.and if you relly need a hand out there is welfare.
@TheClone3000 Don't be so patronizing, I work but I still get free health care, I might pay a little more in tax but that's ok.
As for this video it's farcical, yes you might have to wait a few hours but then you get treated, if they want to get it done and not wait hours then go and pay $900 to only wait a couple of hours.
Personally I'd wait the few hours and save myself the $900.
If there is an emergency you get treated straight away no waiting, and no fees.
@MrVillamike im not trying to be patronizing but to say that only the rich get good heath treatment is not true. i dont know were you are getting that info because its roung, we have govenment programs to help the needy and we also have free clinics so to say we need a canada heathcare system is just not needed.
Must. Read. J.M.Keynes. Am idiot. Fail to understand. Free healthcare mean access based on need? Does not compute. Me have money. Me more important than poor people. Me, me, me, ME.
The average US life expectancy is way below that of Canada or the UK (roughly 2 years less for the UK), so perhaps our systems work pretty well. Or perhaps we live longer just to moan. We do moan, but not about our additional life-span.
@kitcar2000 The US diet is also a lot different. A lot of grain-based foods, lots of corn-based foods like soda, and we even feed our cattle grain, even though they are supposed to eat grass. It's not always health-care, there are a lot of other factors involved, especially diet.
@zchsmith93 For someone who infers they think, you sure are randomly stuck on an arbitrary word that has nothing to do with anything; even to define it. As if nostalgia for one of your random words, pertains to anything pertinent at all.
I'm certainly glad you don't have and feeling of nostalgia. Or not, it's really quite inconsequential to me.
Now that we've established you don't feel sentimental or nostalgic, let's move on. Your randomness was interesting but it's become a bit of a bore.
very biased video. i've lived in canada for 17 years and have never waited longer than 45 minutes for a service at the hospital or clinique. i never had any serious injuries either
The main thing to remember is that they asked if it was an emergency when you came in if you had said yes you would have been seen much sooner, if you say "not really" you have to wait its that simple of course if you had said it was an emergency and there was obviously nothing wrong thats technically a crime and you could have been charged though they usually only do that if you call an ambulance.
i once cut the upper part of my right eyebrow......it took me 15 minutes because there was a bit of blood.depending on the injury or sickness the waiting process can be short. That is why the government recommends you to go to a clinic where the waiting is much much shorter than the hospital
This is all anecdotal & it is intellectually dishonest. This guy is counting on the viewer being uninformed. He's probably working for Harper or the Republicans or a private insurance consortium. The fact is, in the States, the HMOs have the American people by the throat. They have a monopoly. As a result, 45,000 Americans DIE every year because they can't access heath care. In the US, 1 in 4 families now goes bankrupt because of medical bills. Even people with insurance have to fight for care.
Democrats should consider voting in the republican primaries for Ron Paul, based upon the national discussion it could create for the notion of international Peace and corporatism.
Even if they don't vote for him in the general election.
Do you Really want Newt or Romney to run any risk of being president? Really?
A nomination for Ron Paul to be GOP nominee at least keeps the possiblity of a warmonger out of the equation.
@Premier112 Nothing in that comment was even remotely sentimental. Better hope your nominee doesn't drop dead before the primaries are over... people around the age of 110 tend to be frail.
@Premier112 Sentimentality is defined as a comment derived from feelings of tenderness or nostalgia. In the comment referenced above there was nothing relating to tenderness or nostalgia.
I don't like you either. Because you're a drone. You don't think for yourself, you just rehearse stale lines given to you.
Socialized medicine allows for bureaucratic private interest to manipulate government to benefit an elite group of interest, while destroying the principles of a free market.
@Jaminjames122 You have it backwards. Privatized medicine allows for bureaucratic interests to manipulate government to benefit an elite group--the HMOs. Privatized medicine places a dollar value on human life. It is inefficient, expensive & immoral. When I was a kid, a guy shopping across the border got shot--hit by a stray bullet. He managed to drive back across the border--straight to a Canadian hospital. My Dad said, if he hadn't, the American hospital "would have taken his house."
@Jaminjames122 Also, what have "the principles of the free market" got to do with health care? Is the so called "free market" more important than human life? Your statement is revealing. You right wingers are essentially idolatrous. You worship corporate power, or "the free market" as you call it. The market, like government, has its proper place. It is not more important than human life.
yes Harper and his goons are trying to make you pay for Real Healthcare.. 900 bucks a go..i bet its worth it too.. too bad our healthcare system has been manipulated and rendered Almost useless
@Cazper86 Let me type slowly, so you understand better. Doctors can set up private for profit clinics in Quebec, and other provinces, and people can CHOOSE to pay that. They are still FULLY covered under the provincial system. Public Healthcare is mandated and run at the provincial level, not federal. I'll repeat, Harper has nothing to do with it.
@MadHabber93 ok Harper has nothing to do with anything... nothing at all.. the guy who runs canada has no say and has nothing to do with canada other than he was elected to make choices...somewhere down the line hes involved...you seem awefully offended that I am pointing all this out... are you related to that p.o.s..I HAVE NOTHING MORE TO SAY... PEOPLE GET YOUR INFO BEFORE GUYS LIKE THIS CLAIM ITS MISINFORMATION and changes it to there own liking... kinda like they did the bible!
@Cazper86 Whatever skippy. Tell me one thing that I said that's untrue, just one. The only thing I'm offended about is that idiots like you are allowed to roam the streets freely. If you are not careful, you might get hit by a car. Oooooops, nevermind. Bwahahahahahaha
@Cazper86 And you said that Harper is making people spend $900 on private clinics. No he's not. If you want to believe he is, suit yourself. And your comparison is useless.
@MadHabber93 uh i didnt say he was forcing them into shit... he is giving 2 options.. spend 900$ to get a health checkup privately or get barely anything from the public healthcare system.. wait hours on end.. and the reason for waiting hours on end and shittty service IS Harpers fault.. so when u have a baby and it dies of pneumonia ask the doctors what took them so long..if we had more medical doctors we would have to sit less time..
@Cazper86 Let's repeat this. YOU received shitty service, most people do not. And to blame the PM because someone gave you shitty service is like saying the police did a bad job because of Harper. That is pure bullshit, just like all your posts.
And did you not happen to see that the Private clinic was actually CLOSED in the video. Now that's great servie there skippy.
@TheWonderfullChannel That's called medical malpractice, so unless there are no cases in the U.S., then you have no point. Not to mention, we have no background of her case what so ever. It's meaningless, anecdotal evidence, just like the rest of the video.
@MadHabber93 dolt.. dont u mean idiot.. and you telling me about my grammar.. if only u hadnt hooped your forehead as a child...you got shit for brains
quebec nation healthcare system which is run by a mafia friendly corrupt politician =/= canadian healthcare system, as usual steven crowder is full of shit.
Obama sold out.. he should have destroyed private health insurance and set it up "non-profit" and force pharm/hospitals to negotiate with the state on behalf of the people or get only customers who pay to skib waiting lists.
From the director of Sick and Sicker to those claiming he "cherry-picked his stats"..."Tell him to talk to the first 10 Canadians he meets who actually used their PolitiCare system not the healthy youngsters who've swallowed all the government propaganda but never used it for something serious."
@Riellysdad Oh, why didn't you say that, you know the director, so that must make it an ethical report. Spare me. He cherry picked isolated cases of people who weren't satisfied with their experience. 85% of us are, so he found some of the 15%, big fucking deal. WHere was your 'director' friend when my lung collapsed & received excellent fast care. Or both my neighbour's, saved after collapsing from a brain aneurysm, & couple cured of cancer. No debt, no waiting.
"Sick and Sicker" shows what happens when "the government becomes your doctor" using licensed news footage from Canadian TV, interviews with doctors, patients, journalists, a health minister, a Member of Parliament, a doctor who went on a hunger strike as well the producer's own Canadian relatives. Clements even rents a hospital to show the mismatch between supply and demand in a medical system run by politicians. SICK and SICKER puts ObamaCare on ice with cold hard facts from Canada."
The problem is that they compare our medical care to rural Canada, which yeah, fewer people so less problems. But apples to apples, the US is almost all like metro-Canada. We'd have to wait twice as long, get less help, and almost no medications.
This guy and his ignorance combined with his squeaky voice really deserves a smack in the face. Lets just make up stuff and call it facts. I have a family doctor, I call him when i want to see him, walk in & out with a mere swiping of my OHIP card. I have an idea for you, next time instead of your wrist shoot yourself in the head and see if you get better treatment. U.S should be wiped off the face of the earth. capito facists.
The Documentary "Sick and Sicker" busts wide open the myth of the perfect Canadian system...It shows the people who cannot get care and who are left to die on waiting lists. You get better healthcare as a pet in Canada than you can expect as a person.
I'm from Montreal and, although I do concede the lineups may be long for some visits, the healthcare here is exceptional. I've never had any issues with it at all, be it a flu, a blood test, a checkup or an injury. And by no means should this guy's experiences be extrapolated to critique public health care at large.. And what's wrong with having private clinics around as well? As for being "taxed on taxes," is paying .004% more on consumer goods that big an issue?
You failed to mention that when a government (like the way ours has been for the past 5+ years) continues to CUT funding to something like health care, problems are bound to occur, such as Dr. shortages. Walk in clinics have notoriously long waits, that's why most people get a family Dr. I waited 10 minutes last time I went to my doctors office up here in Ontario Canada.
The US is foolish for not wanting Obamacare. If it's funded properly the benefits would outweigh the cons.
hmmmm it's kinda funny... EVERY other industrialized nation on planet earth has government run health care or all it's citizens... BUT the USA.... Which leads to this question.. Is the USA right and the rest of the world wrong ? That's a question worth answering...
what if we went out and helped all the sick animals too? and if they're too sick we'll pay for their food and shelter and medicine to make them feel better until they die. if you've got such a bleeding heart, you pay for it
If everyone pay's a little everyone is covered... Funny part is your probably paying 100 times more to your private health insurance company ... OH and just wait until your sick....Getting money outta them is like pulling there teeth...
@funkyflights Nice fantasy you have there. No socialist system of care anywhere has ever delivered on the suppose "right" to healthcare we are all supposed to have. Rationing is the norm and it soon becomes like the sorting process at a death camp where the young and fittest get care while the old, infirm and terminal are let go.
@Riellysdad The ultimate in rationing is waiting forever in a system where you can't afford the care. The ultimate in rationing is when 2 Million American cancer patients forgo further needed treatment when they can no longer afford it when their insurance runs out. The ultimate in rationing is when a study shows that 45,000 Americans die every year due to lack of access to care due to cost.
There is NO study showing that Canadians die on wait lists. Sick & sicker is cherry picked b.s.
@MadHabber93 ..Tell that to the director who is a friend of mine. He would like to know just which parts of it are "cherry picked". Tell it also to the more than half dozen Canadians who he interviewed for the film who have since died without getting the care the socialists promised.
It's not a fantasy it's a reality for every other industrialized country on this planet... Your fantasy is thinking there ALL WRONG and the USA is right.... We stand alone as the only nation that uses medical care as a profit machine... These other countries are not killing there elderly or having death camps... DUDE common... I have friends from Canada and family living in England... Stop the nonsense bro.. your being fooled..
@funkyflights ...I live in NZ where we also have a socialist die while you wait health system so I am familiar with it sonny. Just as I am with Britians NHS where people have starved to death in hospital beds and dead patients haven't been discovered for weeks...if they can even get into the hospital in the first place.
"..I live in NZ where we also have a socialist die while you wait health system"
Free healthcare system: Unless your life is in immediate danger you will be placed on a list where you will eventually get in, if you dont want to wait then you have the option of paying a premium for private care.
American Healthcare system: Unless your life is in immediate danger we will do nothing for you and allow your condition to worsen until it threatens your life.
@types10000 ...Not " free healthcare".. coercively taxed healthcare...that's not available when you need it. And because you are denied the choice of retaining your own money to spend you are less ale to take up a private alternative. if I could Opt out I would. Even most socialist politicians don't use public services for themselves or their family's..they go private. It would be stupid for them not to.
"if I could Opt out I would. Even most socialist politicians don't use public services for themselves or their family's..they go private. It would be stupid for them not to."
- indeed it would, the main purpose of free healthcare is to provide some level of support to the low-middle income earners that form the basis of our economy, these are typically the people who struggle to pay under the US system.
@types10000 ..But socialism claims healthcare as a "right"...so everyone regardless of income or status must have this "right". Of course healthcare is a not a right at all...its a service that one should pay for..like all others.
@Riellysdad "Even most socialist politicians don't use public services for themselves or their family's..they go private"
Link please. Its easy to make claims on the internet, not so easy to back up bullshit. And don't give a couple of cases. You said 'most' so there should be lots of documented cases.
@Riellysdad Yeah, you can post links on youtube GENIUS, if you new how. And I didn't ask you for the 'director's name' I asked for the patient's names of those you claimed that died after that VERY misleading, cherry picked documentary. And the only one who will have his ass handed to him will be Logan's. Ideoloical talking points, cherry picked anecdotal evidence, only goes so far. There is no concrete evidence that the U.S. system beats UHC. And we have socialized INSURANCE not medicine.
@Riellysdad Curious to know when your buddy will do a documentary in his own backyard on the 2 million American cancer patients that had to forgo further needed due to cost in 2010? You know, according to an ACTUAL STUDY, versus anecdotal evidence from cherry picked cases. I can list hundreds of thousands of Canadians whose lives have been saved by our system, without ever having to sell their home, get a loan or beg from people to pay the bill. Cherry picked bullshit!!!!!!
@MadHabber93 hahah yeah it sure seems like it..such a high percentage loves how it works..thats why they are all unhappy and waiting in hospitals for hours on end.. youll die a horrible death and i hope its cause the doctors turn u away or give you the wrong meds.. your a deciever..stfu.. move on you knowit all.. just keep spreading shit.. and just shows your brains.. i dont own a vagina! SHEEPLE STFU! your just mad u might have to pay more taxes for welfare peeps to get better healthcare.
@Cazper86 Wow, more stuff you just pull out of your ass. Good for you.
I'm happy to pay my taxes as I know it will go to help ALL my countrymen have access to great healthcare.
And google Canadian's satisfaction with their healthcare and EDUCATE your ignorant ass. Facts are on my side, opinion on yours. Again, you are entitled to that opinion, but your opinion is in the minority. Sucks to be you. Now move along and stop wasting my time. Smooch.
@MadHabber93 lol in this very video it says it all shutthefuckup moron...cause yes 85% would love to lose both there legs and not even know why...lawl dont belive everything you see fucktard 911 was inside job and it was all over that google that it was arab terrorists.. but yet almost all the terrorists turned themselves in after hearing they were suppose to be dead on a plane
@MadHabber93 your on your knees sucking some good harper cock.. why dont you move the fuck out of daddies house and open your eyes and experience the real world with your own eyes
@types10000 In the US, third party payment means no one bothers with price comparison. Users don't worry or care as their insurance covers it. In addition they all want to get their money out and don't mind using it even when not necessary. That continues to push up costs. Yet the state required paperwork is complex and doctors are going bankrupt. Private health savings accounts, which give X amount per year on basics and then covers catastrophic events would significantly lower costs.
"In the US, third party payment means no one bothers with price comparison. Users don't worry or care as their insurance covers it"
- which is great for people that are working, but not so great for low-middle income earners inbetween jobs .etc (the ones that again form the basis of our economy). Which brings us to why the US system is a complete fucking failure.
"Private health savings accounts, which give X amount per year on basics and then covers catastrophic events would significantly lower costs."
- whilst this is definitely a problem with SOME implementations of the free healthcare system (with private healthcare alternative) it is not the case with the BULK of implementations (demonstrated by the fact that free healthcare correlates with better healthcare and healthcare standards on every test ever conducted)
@types10000 ..Rubbish. In fact one UK paper looked at the per person cost of the NHS and found with the same money the same person could purchase one of the best, most expensive insurance policies the US has to offer. The same thing shows in studies of private education in the states which produces far better outcomes for half the cost of the state system. Also other countries limit access to expensive drugs and technologies. The result is that US patient use services you can't get overseas.
"Rubbish. In fact one UK paper looked at the per person cost of the NHS and found with the same money the same person could purchase one of the best, most expensive insurance policies the US has to offer."
- care to cite it? i'll be happy to poke holes it in your use of it, but quite frankly i doubt it exists :)
"Also other countries limit access to expensive drugs and technologies. The result is that US patient use services you can't get overseas."
- this is baseless nonsense. i live in one of the systems you purpose.
- the US system is a failure because of how it affects the low-middle income earners that form the basis of the economy and free healthcare system does address that.
@types10000 ...Not true. I don't support the American system AS IT IS NOW...although it is still superior to a full socialist system. I can't find the link to the UK media story but I know it exists...try Google. And Look this clip up here on Youtube..."Don't Copy Europe's Mistakes: Less Government Is the Right Way to Fix Healthcare".
"Not true. I don't support the American system AS IT IS NOW...although it is still..."
- incorrect, the free healthcare is observed to be better (it correlates with better healthcare and healthcare standards on every study ever conducted)
"I can't find the link to the UK media story but I know it exists"
- big surprise *rolls eyes*
The American is flawed because it screws over the low-middle income earners that form the basis of the economy, free healthcare addresses this.
@types10000 I know t was in the Times of London..so look it up. Plus I can't post links in Youtube... otherwise I would post 4 very good ones that reference the failure of socialised healthcare in the UK and elsewhere.
The US healthcare system is a failure and that's why a new one is being implemented, where do you get off calling free healthcare it a mistake when it is already observed to work (and correlate with the best healthcare and healthcare standards) in other nations?
@types10000 Google this...Free Students blogspot free-universal-health-care-is-neither.html.......This site has many pieces on the failure of socialised medicine with shocking story's from the NHS etc. Links from there to the sources..
"Google this...Free Students blogspot free-universal-health-care-is-neither.html.......This site has many pieces on the failure of socialised medicine "
- this is not a source for your previous claim furthermore
@Riellysdad Making the claim that those people died is easy, proving it is difficult. But hey, you know the director, you must have the names and case specifics. WHile your at it, ignore the MILLIONS of your countrymen that can't afford insurance or healthcare, the thousands that die every year due to lack of access to care due to cost. Ignore that we live longer, never have to worry about cost and have better access. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
@MadHabber93 ..I'm a New Zealander..not a Yank. And we suffer a socialised healthcare "die while you wait" system here. The US system is bad due to the in- ability of the patients and doctors to deal with each other without the insurance companies having to be involved. But the US system still beats socialised medicine...
@Riellysdad I"ve watched people lose everything they've worked hard for all there lives because of medical debt.. I"ve watched insurance companies deny payment for life saving emergencies and the patient dies for the sake of profit.... There is nothing good about the USA's system.. WE might have great technology and great doctors but we have a putrid system that is killing Americans ... 45,000 a year die from lack of medical insurance... Many lose everything to pay outrages costs.
@funkyflights ...As I have previously said here...I am NOT a fan of the US system as it is NOW. Its been mostly socialist for the past few decades already...and will not improve if it goes all the way Socialist. The US needs a FREE MARKET healthcare system that leaves the money with the patient and lets them deal directly with the doctor....and allows competition for profits drive the price of service DOWN.
We have socialized medicine for our elderly in the USA... Medicare... It's a wonderful system and every family member I have that's on it is alive and very happy... Never has any procedures been denied...
Medicare has a massive surplus.. The only people wanting us to think it's broke is the private system who wants to take over medicare to make more profits for themselves... It's all BS.... Good luck having a 65 year old guy with heart problems actually getting covered by a private for profit system... FORGET IT... No private insurance company would take on that risk.. Remember age is a pre-existing condition we all share...
AHH! one thing the american forgot to mention.. IS EVEN PRIVATE CLINCS IT IS COVERED by your work!! just like any medical! you just have to pay more than public!
What's that your using the functionality of this system to insinuate that all government services are inefficient?
Then how do you explain the WHO health report which clearly correlates free healthcare with better healthcare and healthcare standards?
or perhaps you could contrast it with France, Italy or Greece all of whom implement free universal healthcare systems and have the 1st, 2nd and 3rd best overall-healthcare (healthcare and standards) in the world.
They don't want to hear that... Right wingers love the fantasy of socialism and how Hitler is coming back to take over the world if the USA get's government run health care... it's pathetically sad and I feel sorry for them.... for real... Big money making insurance companies can care less about them but yet they support them like it's there path to freedom.... Ronald Reagan even preached it back in the day how total socialism starts through medicine... There brainwashed..
@types10000 When private insurance was forbidden by LAW...? Or have things opened up recently? And having to pay twice is wrong. Letting people opt out altogether from the state system and keep their own money to spend on their own health as they see fit would tell the real story...
"When private insurance was forbidden by LAW...? Or have things opened up recently?"
- what on earth are you on about? private insurance runs in conjunction with free healthcare in virtually every system that implements free healthcare.
"And having to pay twice is wrong"
- no, you offered one service and can pay again for additional services. eg. the fact your tax dollars fund the police doesnt mean your not allowed to hire bodyguards/bouncers
@types10000 ,,,Dude...it was common knowledge that people were forbidden BY LAW from taking out private medical insurance in Canada. That's a fact. And you ARE forced to pay twice for private care as the taxman doesn't allow you an "opt out" option if you take up private provision. No socialist system could allow that as people would desert its system in droves. GET A CLUE
"No socialist system could allow that as people would desert its system in droves. GET A CLUE"
- are you retarded? The most economically stable nations with the best healthcare and healthcare standards are the ones that implement 'socialized medicine'
- 86% of Canadians strongly support public healthcare over private for-profit healthcare.
- 82%-91% of Canadians prefer their healthcare system to the one in the United States
- However, When asked about their own health care instead of the 'health care system,' only 41.5% of Canadians said they were satisfied.
Free healthcare as a system is fine (infact it correlates with the best healthcare and healthcare standards), Canada's implementation of it is questionable.
@types10000 Actually, almost all polls done on Canadians satisfaction shows that number to always be in the 80-85% range as well. I believe the 41.5% number are those that are Very satisfied versus just satisfied.
And the 75% of Canadians with supplemental insurance, that would more for dental, prescription coverage, not doctor and hospital coverage.
@types10000 Free care is NOT fine..its not free...its paid by taking money from people by force and redistributing it in ways that the owner would not have done if allowed to retain it.
- it's free in the sense that it isnt coming directly out of your back pocket, it is however obviously still funded by tax dollars (just like the police or fire departments), do you think this is a startling new revelation???
This is the way the U.S. health care will be like if not worse, honestly i would rather pay a little more and get treated for my illness right away then not have to pay nothing and wait 1-3 years to see a DR hell by then i will be dead, but that is what they want make it easier for them if im dead.
"This is the way the U.S. health care will be like if not worse, honestly i would rather pay a little more and get treated for my illness right away then not have to pay nothing and wait 1-3 years to see a DR hell by then i will be dead"
- yes and if Obamacare is like virtually every other free healthcare system in the world there will be a private system that runs in tandem with it (giving you the options of either free or private care) so you will be able to.
@nickatnite85 But we don't wait 1-3 years to see a doctor, you are being fed a line of b.s. by individuals with either biased 'opinion' and not fact, or who are just plain lying to you to further their own egenda.
I can't help but notice that you clearly speak french & yet chose to speak english to the doctors/nurses (when you probably know that there is a language conflict there).
Finally, I have to say that the problems stem more from the people than the system. People want their "free" healthcare, but don't realize they actually pay for it in taxes. When the idea of raising taxes comes up, people practically get lynched. You can't have services for free, so you either pay the taxes, or wait 7 hours.
Just because 1 province has managed to fuck it up doesn't mean they all have or that universal health care is a bad thing. I would far rather wait 6 hours than have to work for the rest of my life to pay off several hundred thousand dollars. Also, we do not typically wait "years" for surgery. I have had to wait at most 6 months for non-emergency surgery.
Stats are much more reflective of the overall efficacy than the isolated situation you show. We spend less and have longer lives.
1.You don't tell us where you are (but I guess Quebec). If you're up north/small town, then it's no surprise that you had to go to a hospital (BTW, it's idiots like you who clog up the system because they got a boo boo).
2. Each province deals with things differently. It seems like wherever you went was particularly bad.
3.You were clearly rude to them, which is making them respond rudely back (and you're an english speaker where it is primarily french, & the frenchies don't like that).
@88pie88 Canadians live longer because we don't have the barrier of cost to stop us from getting fast, early detection of many diseases, that are curable or manageable when caught early. Your whole, "waiting until we are vomitting blood", along with 'because we have less gang violence" is typical ignorance of something you clearly have little understanding of.
I agree, the socialized system ...on a sunny and seventy day...SUCKS. But clinics here in America are closed on Saturdays and Sundays as well. Emergency rooms are always backed up as well. Canada's system is great as long as you never get sick or injured. Liberals, socialists, marxists love the Canadian system...why don't they just move there?
@mjwest04 Complete crap. The Canadian systems works best when people have acute cases. We don't wait for urgent care and get top notch care when they go. Do we wait for elective procedures like hip replacement, yes, but ALL of us get it and NEVER have to worry how we are going to pay for it. That's why 90% of the country support our system and would never want a for profit, insurance run system like the U.S.
I can only tell you, as being a member of the "sandwich" generation, meaning, parents and kids needing our support, that our health care system is pretty fine! Not perfect, n'est pas, mais, pretty fine!
Whether universal healthcare works or not is not my main concern in this issue. My problem is being forced into something I dont want. My problem is the government saying "this is the fate of your body and you have NO CHOICE." Many of the same people who support universal healthcare, are pro choice on abortion. So its ok for the government to make decision on your entire body but not on your baby? NO! I want FREEDOM. That means the freedom to choose. Without this, you aren't free at all.
Haha! I what a crock. The for you American, and thus video is a crock of fickle matter. The set up to only show you what they want you to see. The also note these guys are not sick... and that's what triage is for. These guys are laying to you.
@wangsta25 What about 3 years to wait in line for cancer surgery? No one is saying the US doesn't need reform of healthcare, it's just you're heading towards the wrong direction.
@darkr0astedblend You actually think we wait years for cancer surgery?? It amazes me how many Americans buy into the Neo-conservative bullshit about UHC from the likes of Fox News and clowns like Crowder.
While I must concede this video does a great job of showing the flaws of a canadian issues... I would make the economic argument that employers would rather the health care is paid for by the government and not by them, so employers are flocking to Canada.
And in America, I was denied treatment for a broken heal... a broken heal I got at a fire scene, so it would have been paid for since I am a firefighter, and they basically said "Sorry, you don't have inusrance, not emergency."

American health care is the most costly in the developed world and one of the lowest life expectancies of the developed world too.

MrVillamike 3 days ago
@DmanDashit That's the difference between the likes of Canada and Britain and the USA, Canada and Britain put people before profit where as the good ole capitalist US of A thinks money and stuff humanitarians.
With America everything is about $ signs, you don't give a toss about much else in the world.
MrVillamike 3 days ago
@MrVillamike bull shit! and even if that was true in canada no one can get decent health care.
TheClone3000 1 day ago
@TheClone3000 Oh yes and it's cheaper and better in the good ole US of A I suppose?
MrVillamike 23 hours ago
@MrVillamike oh its dirt cheap in canada because there is none in canada, see in the us its just you paying for it, not everyone around you(taxes), and unlike canada it works. if you relly cared so much about it you would work for it insted of trying to make other people pay for it. me and my family arnt rich and we dont have any problem going to ther doctor.and if you relly need a hand out there is welfare.
TheClone3000 23 hours ago
@TheClone3000 Don't be so patronizing, I work but I still get free health care, I might pay a little more in tax but that's ok.
As for this video it's farcical, yes you might have to wait a few hours but then you get treated, if they want to get it done and not wait hours then go and pay $900 to only wait a couple of hours.
Personally I'd wait the few hours and save myself the $900.
If there is an emergency you get treated straight away no waiting, and no fees.
MrVillamike 23 hours ago
@MrVillamike im not trying to be patronizing but to say that only the rich get good heath treatment is not true. i dont know were you are getting that info because its roung, we have govenment programs to help the needy and we also have free clinics so to say we need a canada heathcare system is just not needed.
TheClone3000 22 hours ago
We have a great free healthcare system in Britain too.
The only ones that don't want healthcare for all in America is the insurance and medical companies in the US.

Must. Read. J.M.Keynes.
We do moan, but not about our additional life-span.
kitcar2000 1 week ago
@kitcar2000 The US diet is also a lot different. A lot of grain-based foods, lots of corn-based foods like soda, and we even feed our cattle grain, even though they are supposed to eat grass. It's not always health-care, there are a lot of other factors involved, especially diet.

Search "Blue Republican"
Democrats should consider voting in the republican primaries for Ron Paul, based upon the national discussion it could create for the notion of international Peace and corporatism.
Even if they don't vote for him in the general election.
Do you Really want Newt or Romney to run any risk of being president? Really?
A nomination for Ron Paul to be GOP nominee at least keeps the possiblity of a warmonger out of the equation.

Socialized medicine allows for bureaucratic private interest to manipulate government to benefit an elite group of interest, while destroying the principles of a free market.
Jaminjames122 2 weeks ago
@Jaminjames122 You have it backwards. Privatized medicine allows for bureaucratic interests to manipulate government to benefit an elite group--the HMOs. Privatized medicine places a dollar value on human life. It is inefficient, expensive & immoral. When I was a kid, a guy shopping across the border got shot--hit by a stray bullet. He managed to drive back across the border--straight to a Canadian hospital. My Dad said, if he hadn't, the American hospital "would have taken his house."
mightymissk 1 week ago
@Jaminjames122 Also, what have "the principles of the free market" got to do with health care? Is the so called "free market" more important than human life? Your statement is revealing. You right wingers are essentially idolatrous. You worship corporate power, or "the free market" as you call it. The market, like government, has its proper place. It is not more important than human life.

Riellysdad 2 weeks ago
The problem is that they compare our medical care to rural Canada, which yeah, fewer people so less problems. But apples to apples, the US is almost all like metro-Canada. We'd have to wait twice as long, get less help, and almost no medications.

And what's wrong with having private clinics around as well? As for being "taxed on taxes," is paying .004% more on consumer goods that big an issue?
smokenfly514 2 weeks ago

You failed to mention that when a government (like the way ours has been for the past 5+ years) continues to CUT funding to something like health care, problems are bound to occur, such as Dr. shortages. Walk in clinics have notoriously long waits, that's why most people get a family Dr. I waited 10 minutes last time I went to my doctors office up here in Ontario Canada.
The US is foolish for not wanting Obamacare. If it's funded properly the benefits would outweigh the cons.

Riellysdad 2 weeks ago
@Riellysdad The ultimate in rationing is waiting forever in a system where you can't afford the care. The ultimate in rationing is when 2 Million American cancer patients forgo further needed treatment when they can no longer afford it when their insurance runs out. The ultimate in rationing is when a study shows that 45,000 Americans die every year due to lack of access to care due to cost.
There is NO study showing that Canadians die on wait lists. Sick & sicker is cherry picked b.s.

Riellysdad 2 weeks ago
@Riellysdad I"ve watched people lose everything they've worked hard for all there lives because of medical debt.. I"ve watched insurance companies deny payment for life saving emergencies and the patient dies for the sake of profit.... There is nothing good about the USA's system.. WE might have great technology and great doctors but we have a putrid system that is killing Americans ... 45,000 a year die from lack of medical insurance... Many lose everything to pay outrages costs.
funkyflights 2 weeks ago
@funkyflights ...As I have previously said here...I am NOT a fan of the US system as it is NOW. Its been mostly socialist for the past few decades already...and will not improve if it goes all the way Socialist. The US needs a FREE MARKET healthcare system that leaves the money with the patient and lets them deal directly with the doctor....and allows competition for profits drive the price of service DOWN.
Riellysdad 2 weeks ago
@funkyflights ...But don't become an old person in a socialised medical system...you will be consigned to die.

We have socialized medicine for our elderly in the USA... Medicare... It's a wonderful system and every family member I have that's on it is alive and very happy... Never has any procedures been denied...
funkyflights 2 weeks ago
@funkyflights Hate to tell ya but Medicare's about broke. As I recall it will be in debt in a few years time....and watch the fireworks then.
Riellysdad 2 weeks ago
@Riellysdad

ReebsRae 2 weeks ago
What's that your using the functionality of this system to insinuate that all government services are inefficient?
Then how do you explain the WHO health report which clearly correlates free healthcare with better healthcare and healthcare standards?
or perhaps you could contrast it with France, Italy or Greece all of whom implement free universal healthcare systems and have the 1st, 2nd and 3rd best overall-healthcare (healthcare and standards) in the world.
types10000 2 weeks ago
@types10000
There brainwashed..
funkyflights 2 weeks ago
Having a free and private system running in tandem creates 2 two tier system where only the incredibly rich can afford private care?
O'rly? Then perhaps you could tell that to 75% of Canadians that have some form of supplementary private health insurance :)
lol this video is just conservative propaganda.
types10000 2 weeks ago
@types10000 When private insurance was forbidden by LAW...? Or have things opened up recently? And having to pay twice is wrong. Letting people opt out altogether from the state system and keep their own money to spend on their own health as they see fit would tell the real story...
Riellysdad 2 weeks ago
@Riellysdad
GET SMARTER
types10000 2 weeks ago
@types10000 ,,,Dude...it was common knowledge that people were forbidden BY LAW from taking out private medical insurance in Canada. That's a fact. And you ARE forced to pay twice for private care as the taxman doesn't allow you an "opt out" option if you take up private provision. No socialist system could allow that as people would desert its system in droves. GET A CLUE

Free healthcare as a system is fine (infact it correlates with the best healthcare and healthcare standards), Canada's implementation of it is questionable.
types10000 2 weeks ago
@types10000 Actually, almost all polls done on Canadians satisfaction shows that number to always be in the 80-85% range as well. I believe the 41.5% number are those that are Very satisfied versus just satisfied.
And the 75% of Canadians with supplemental insurance, that would more for dental, prescription coverage, not doctor and hospital coverage.
MadHabber93 2 weeks ago
@types10000 Free care is NOT fine..its not free...its paid by taking money from people by force and redistributing it in ways that the owner would not have done if allowed to retain it.

This is the way the U.S. health care will be like if not worse, honestly i would rather pay a little more and get treated for my illness right away then not have to pay nothing and wait 1-3 years to see a DR hell by then i will be dead, but that is what they want make it easier for them if im dead.

- yes and if Obamacare is like virtually every other free healthcare system in the world there will be a private system that runs in tandem with it (giving you the options of either free or private care) so you will be able to.
types10000 2 weeks ago
@nickatnite85 But we don't wait 1-3 years to see a doctor, you are being fed a line of b.s. by individuals with either biased 'opinion' and not fact, or who are just plain lying to you to further their own egenda.

memoryten 3 weeks ago
I can't help but notice that you clearly speak french & yet chose to speak english to the doctors/nurses (when you probably know that there is a language conflict there).
Finally, I have to say that the problems stem more from the people than the system. People want their "free" healthcare, but don't realize they actually pay for it in taxes. When the idea of raising taxes comes up, people practically get lynched. You can't have services for free, so you either pay the taxes, or wait 7 hours.
o0Theresa0o 3 weeks ago
Just because 1 province has managed to fuck it up doesn't mean they all have or that universal health care is a bad thing. I would far rather wait 6 hours than have to work for the rest of my life to pay off several hundred thousand dollars. Also, we do not typically wait "years" for surgery. I have had to wait at most 6 months for non-emergency surgery.
Stats are much more reflective of the overall efficacy than the isolated situation you show. We spend less and have longer lives.
o0Theresa0o 3 weeks ago

Liberals, socialists, marxists love the Canadian system...why don't they just move there?
mjwest04 3 weeks ago
@mjwest04 Complete crap. The Canadian systems works best when people have acute cases. We don't wait for urgent care and get top notch care when they go. Do we wait for elective procedures like hip replacement, yes, but ALL of us get it and NEVER have to worry how we are going to pay for it. That's why 90% of the country support our system and would never want a for profit, insurance run system like the U.S.
