#21 in my Breezy not Easy playlist. This guy goes on for awhile, top notch vocal abilities to actually sing that way. That's really wild stuff, still to this day. Like, you get into the vocals on Abbey Road (The Beatles)? I'd say this guy's career involves a lot of the better, stronger singing apparent there in Rock. Definitely a rocking track involving a lot of air and stuff, and it's difficult. Tubular.
not a surprise that this was such a huge album, "My wave", "Black hole sun", and "Spoonman" are perfect singles. Soundgarden were always great, but those songs introduced them to a much wider audience
Katie and I visiting El Paso and loving my rock station that I grew up with KLAQ 95.5. They still got it!! Every single time, and I'm not kidding, My Wave by Soundgarden is playing on the radio. I LOVE THIS SONG and the video is awesome!!!!! I could see this video all day long...Get off MY WAVE :)
@Mr912Lancer hello....... are you for real ?.... is the pope the head of the Catholic church ?.... does it rain in winter ?.... if you piss into the wind will you get hit ?... YES he was the lead singer of Audioslave, Temple Of The Dog and he is the lead singer of the greatest band of all time SOUNDGARDEN.
I remember reading the first Rolling Stone interview of Soundgarden, and I may have mentioned this here already, but whoever it was interviewing said he got to the house for the interview and the band was on the front porch drinking Bud tall-boys (16ouncers). And he says that's fitting because Soundgarden is a tall-boy band. I thought that was a good description. They have a bit more to offer than most other bands.
As for Jane's Addiction, I'll always love Nothing's Shocking, I'll always be indifferent to Strays. Its basically not even the same band anymore. Yes, the early to mid 90's were pretty awesome... but also, those people are still around and if they want to tarnish their old images, go right ahead...or, you can just wait until you *know* the songs are as good...write your album, then listen again and ask yourself: is this really just a big pile of shit, or is it on par with Badmotorfinger.
The great thing about being in a band is that its yours to ruin if you so choose. I mean, great they went out sounding good, but if they want to come back and get Timbaland to produce their new album and do duets with JT, go the fuck ahead. I mean, I almost can't even listen to NIN anymore because of where his career went, but oh well. Like...Wait... on second thought, maybe they shouldn't reform. :)
Soundgarden is just a brilliant band all together.them getting back together i know sounds great .But sometimes its just better when left alone.Janes addiction getting back and making and album, just didn't feel the same for me.I know 90's music just can't be touched the way it used too.The X gen.was the greatest for me and all in the range of 28 to 39.sorry if I stereo typed ages.
@mck160 I agree with you on both points, Down on the Upside was pure brilliance, it was the best way for the band to end it, finish on top, burn out and not fade away.. A big part of me doesn't want them to reform, just to stay in my mind the way they were in '97 when they hung up the guitars and went on their own roads
On january 1 2010 cornell alluded to a soundgarden reunion via twitter writing: 'The 12 year break is over and school is back in session. sign up now, knights of the Soundtable ride again!" THAT'S RIGHT BABY THE KINGS OF STONER ROCK BACK IN ACTION!!!!!!!
Matt Cameron has to be one of the most underrated drummers of all time, he's definitely up with Danny Carey and John Bonham.ridiculous sense of timing. The whole band really is underrated. And especially Down On The Upside, it's jsut as good as Superunknown.
I had no idea they got/are getting back together, thats amazing! After my longhorns lose the National championship, its nice to have some good news lol
Hey guys! Soundgarden (members) isn't officially back yet.....The Knights of the Soundtable was the name of the Soundgarden fan-club back in the 90's and it's only the fan-club that is back and now they can officially release a box set of B-sides and rarities and merchandise like T-shirts on the website. the Twitter post isn't clear....and we were just too excited to assume...
@AL3Xmotodude Eh, STP were always pretty radio-friendly anyway (although in a good way). Soundgarden haven't even mentioned new music yet - I figure they're just gonna do the whole tour thing first and then we can wait.
@6shadow6lord6 ya STP was pretty radio friendly, but in their own way. you know what i mean? This new song sounds so much like the rest of this new "rock" going on these days... with barely any feeling or energy, atleast in IMO
@6shadow6lord6 Amen to that. I just heard it today on the radio and the best shocking news I ever heard since the downfall of music 2005! Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, and now Soundgarden. God Bless them all.
Love this song! Chris Cornell's has a great rock voice, which I feel is vastly underused in his latest endeavors. I tried to like his new stuff, but I'm so underwhelmed by it. I wish he would go back to a harder sound. I miss the intensity of his voice in his earlier years!
some Audioslave stuff is pretty freakin awesome, but now Audioslave is broken up and I know what you mean. most of his recent stuff just doesn't compare to the old music.
This the song that made music a big thing in my life. I remember going through my dad's CD's looking for some music to listen to when i was 7. I just couldn't stop listening to them. Can't believe that was 11 years ago.
If you guys are always looking for new good music like I am, then check out a band called Black Market Radio. They definitely need more recognition. The lead singer is actually Chris Cornell's older brother. You can definitely hear some soundgarden influence. Check out the tracks Better Than A Killer, Gone Ten, Big Stones, Good Riddance, Warned You, Wave, Attic Light, and Suicide Parlour. Another band I'm really digging right now is A Perfect Circle.
I hate the Jonas Brothers and boy band relations to todays music. That was like the Spice Girls of the 90's. Nobody listens to the Jonas Brothers except10 year old girls anyway. Think about it, Soundgarden was hardly even famous back then, there's plenty of good music today if you know where to look.
What happened to the music industry ? I feel sorry for the bad kids of today, who frew up on Britney Spears and the Jonas Brothers. Nothing for them to really sink thier teeth into.
I'm not defending Britany Spears or the Jonas Brothers in anyway, but I'm sure your parents thought the same thing back when you were a kid. Besides most kids don't like that, it definatley not "cool" to come walking into school with a fucking Joans Brothers t-shirt.
I think bad music always existed. In the 90s they had Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys, today we have Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers. But while bad music comes and goes, good music lasts.
yea matt cameron gets a lot of shit cause he's apparently not good enough for Pearl Jam but I like him. In this song my favorite ending of a measure is at 1:14
