Before Germany took the Swastika, it was a religious symbol. The symbol as it is used in Buddhist art and scripture is known in Japanese as a manji (literally, "the character for eternality" 萬字), and represents Dharma, universal harmony, and the balance of opposites. When facing left, it is the omote (front) manji, representing love and mercy. Facing right, it represents strength and intelligence, and is called the ura (rear) manji.
well thats not actually a swastika, if you notice the points go anti clockwise, and the swastika is reversed so the flow clockwise. (im sorry if that made no sense to anyone)
yeah but don't they change the meaning of the manji by switching its angle or direction? i think it can go the same direction as the swastica but i'm not sure.
I know. I was surprised when I saw tokyocooney's video. Actually I was shocked. lol That temple is very famous. From April they have a huge festival. So about 5 million people will visit Nagano!
Was the camera you were using one of those cameras that are backwards because i tried reading that sign at 0:50 and the characters were backwards

Do you know if you can wear or display that in Japan without people thinking you're using it as a nazi swastica?

I hope people watching this realize the swastika was a Buddhist symbol before the Nazis got a hold of it.
