Joe Byrd, bassist on this famous recording, was tragically killed in Annapolis this week, an innocent victim of a careless red light runner. Rest in peace to the to the rhythmof the bossa nova.

When I heard part of this this album in 1970 Jazz Hour, with Willis Conover and his 7' 3" voice ..I couldn't believe that a guitar could be played like this, or a sax so soft. Now, I know a little bit more

Went to high school with Buddy Deppenshmidt, the drummer. Use to hang around with Charlie, Keter and Buddy in the late 60's. One of the best trio ever.

I have the original '63 pressing and it is one of my "never tired of" albums. It just hypnotizes you...flows and swings and is perfectly sequenced in terms of the songs.

In terms of sound, it is also one of the most acoustically satisfying discs you could hear; all the more impressive that Ed Greene who engineered it used a portable Ampex at 7.5ips.

Anyone who thinks about being (or who thinks he is) a musician should be required to listen to this.

While the transfer here is most excellent, it still grates on me whenever I look at the record on the turntable.

Then again, all the swaying from playing the disc could just be the turntable's reaction to Samba!!

I've always loved this album; I was seven years old when I first heard it.

The one thing I don't understand is why the echo-chamber on the sax?

The album would have sounded more intimate without it.
