  • R.I.P. Antonio

  • happy carnival!

  • thank You!

  • thank you master ACJ , thank you brazil

  • Brazilian never gives up!

  • Its a Samba!

  • Extremely Cool! I ordered this CD at amazon.

  • brasil <3

  • what type of beat is played on the drums? is it a samba? i really dont know and i really!! want to play this song but...idk what beat to play hehe...

  • @fuzzybear718

This music is called "bossa nova", a lighter version of samba.

Wikipedia has a very good article about the origins of the genre and its samba origins.

  • @TheReturnOfStephan1 I play with brushes and "hell/toe"' on the hihat. it is really a 16 notes with accents that gives you the swing.

  • @fuzzybear718 yea i know its a bossa nova but the beat doesnt sound like a bossa to me...the bass drum and the shaker feel are there but what the drummer is doing with the brushes is different. its awesome dont get me wrong but nvr heard in a bossa nova before...

  • @fuzzybear718 That's right, bro! Bossa nova is a sophisticated samba.

  • @GabrielNovais oh ok makes more sense now lol thx.

  • @fuzzybear718 This is samba, a smoother one, but still samba.

  • @apsv85

You may be Brazilian, but this is bossa nova, whether you like it or not.

  • @wysiwyg248 Yes, I'm Brazilian, from Rio (samba and bossa nova home). And it's not a matter of like or not. It's a matter of being aware of my own culture, on who Ary Barroso was, and what type of music he used to make. Whoever really knows the history of samba and this samba's icon, can recognize without listening (just by the title) that it's an authentic samba. Even fuzzybear718 seems surprised by "this bossa". However, persuade you is definitely not my intention. I just wanted to inform him.

  • @apsv85 Oh i see what u mean makes more sense that its a samba. Weirdest bossa I've ever heard but it definitely sounds like a samba. Thx.

  • @wysiwyg248 This really is bossa nova! It's surprising someone can mistake this tipical beat for samba, the guy you argued with about 3 weeks ago has no idea what he's talking about :/

  • proper samba style drums.very good and contagious...agree its a light version..

  • Brasil, Brasil, Brasil...!

  • Increible musica.

  • Awesome, Awesome thank you, Carlos Jobim.

  • This song is smoother than silk. Not surprised its the godfather of course!

  • Somebody was too eager with the mouse and clicked dislike by mistake - musica mas suave que isto e dificil

  • siempre he amado esta canción :)

  • This beat can't be beat. I can still hear Antoinio singing this one... I use to sing with The Barcelona Trend patterned after Sergio Mendes and Brazil 66... we did all his hits......

  • Few years ago I watched Brazilian telenovela called "Aquarela do Brazil". This song is also used in telenovela. Main role was singer Iza (Maria Fernanda Candido) who was trying to make career during the World War II. She met two guys and fall in love with them. One was soldier, other was pianist. Beautiful story. I would like to watch it again. How can I find all the episodes? Thanks, guys.

  • @rafanno1

  • @Evandro10brasil Thank you. I'll try. By the way, you country is sooooo beautiful! Music too.

  • @rafanno1 MUITO OBRIGADO ...

    ♥ ABRAÇO AMIGO

  • one word: sublime

  • classic...so smooth

  • @PedroLizzy There is no doubt Brazil has seduced the world with its music and dancing. I have no idea why certain Brazilians do not adore Jobim. His music is simply honey to the ears. I think what the problem is, is that young Brazilian guys like to act tough, hetrosexual males, and in order to get the girls they listen to Funk and Hipi Hopi because they think it will make them look more attractive! White middle class american teenage guys also listen to black rap in the hope girls get wet..

  • @fuxxx21 That's pretty sad, as the only girls who get excited by rap, etc., aren't necessarily self-respecting "women of quality" as we've seen, but, there's just something about a women that LOVES bossa nova; the gentle sway of her hips, her regal carriage-sensual, but, never vulger.

    That's a woman of quality.

  • @TheReturnOfStephan1

    Correction: ..., but, never vulgAr.lol

  • @PedroLizzy Sadly, that's not so unique. Parisians appreciate jazz, in all forms, more than most Americans.

Most African-American pop, jazz & soul musicians are far more appreciate in Europe, Japan & the UK than they are at home.

  • How does music get better than this?

  • Tom Jobim, Deus te abençoe genio!

Obrigada onde estiveres, pela tua grandiosa contribuição a música universal.

  • BRASIL BRASIL BRASIL BRASIL BRASIL BRASIL!!!!!!!!! WOULD BE PERFECT IF PEOPLE THROW PT AND ITS CORRUPTION FROM GOVERNMENT!

  • Perfection. Bossa Nova at its greatest. I'm 19 and this is my favorite style of music:) <3 Brazil

  • I have never been to Brazil, but surely if the country could be liquidized into a sound, it would be this.

  • 'Tis gonna be a good day.

  • amazing!!!! i love it!!!

  • what key is this in?

  • @Commie221 Just tried it on the old "violao" - and it comes out at Eb for me

  • Bravo !

  • @nortonfan100 Thx very much for the links. Do you play ?

  • I love Jobim. His music is timeless.

  • @SorcererOnDope

    /watch?v=A9-S1oALTDk

  • Are there any musicians here please that could give me the chord progression for this , please ? This is wonderful

  • @Gauraonline --- Listen to the great Joao Gilberto's version ont YTube, and you can get a better idea of the chords used, at least with regard to the guitar, which can then be used on other instruments. Gilberto is a master at this.

  • @Gauraonline -- There are guitar tabs at Jason Brazile dot com -- hope this helps. Do a google

  • best version i have ever heard of this song by far

  • Disney used this song in one of their videos about Brasil in the WWII era. There is a water color that is being drawn while this song is being sung.

  • @TiagoMancini Yes, absolutely!! In my mind, I imagine this song playing on the plane's PA system after the flight captain thanks everyone for flying with them, while everyone is getting their baggage from the overhead compartments & leaving the plane.

  • Haunting and brilliant.

  • great arrangement ........ one of the best ,if not the best .

    Al

  • I just bought a brand new copy of the Stone Flower LP, basically on a whim. I had no idea this was on it. I can't really describe how happy it made me to hear Jobim's take on one of my most loved arrangements of all time. Beautiful.

  • Brilliant. Jobim never fails to amaze me. I had the immediate suspicion an American bassist was involved in this track. His style fits perfectly with the arrangement. Obrigado!

  • @strandedinnh

    Your hunch was right!

    It's Ron Carter.:)

  • un manjar para mis oidos

  • where can i find sheet music for this song?!?!?!?!?

  • @sccrash420 You can find the sheet music on .. Latin Real Book co published by Sher Music and Hal Leonard. It only covers the melody part so you need to still figure out the intrumentals on your own.

  • @sccrash420 There was a piano book you might be able to order it in a music store also one for wave

  • Looove it,it's very beautiful:)

  • Totally love this version!!

  • Me sinto muito beim ouvindo essa Musiica...

    Obrigado Brasil Obrigado Ton...♥

  • So Portuguese is a form of Spanish and French?

  • @MisterCoreyMe NO portuguese is a form of latin language. like spanish and french and italian also derive from Latin (the language).

  • @wiviezy thank you for that piece of knowledge... I would've guessed that before any other language. I just don't know why everybody didn't keep Latin... Each letter can be described and tell a specific story ( the position of every letter can change a word/sentence completely) I guess times change and people want more and more. I would love to learn Latin.

  • @MisterCoreyMe you're welcome. it was probably due to the fact tht (inevitably) with time, people and languages change...like portuguese itself nowadays aint the same as 100 yrs ago. i also felt like learning latin a couple of yrs ago, but gave up since its a "dead" language, not useful for communicating, fust for knowledge itself.

  • @MisterCoreyMe All the languages derived from Latin are called "Romance Languages" You can search it in Wikipedia (I can't post the link here)

    =)

  • @MisterCoreyMe Also, truth is, that Spanish and Portuguese also have some influence from Arabic language, because of the Invasion Europe suffered for around 700 years.

  • Rhodes or Wurli ?

  • @MProject4 Rhodes

  • This music really relaxes me ..... thanks for posting.

  • thanks for posting ~ this is so very soothing ...

  • Absolutely beautiful! I can't stop dancing.

  • the chords sound the same as caravan :)

  • This should be dubbed sexiest/grooviest song in the entire history of forever

  • @OxAeroBabixO haha that amde me laugh :)

  • Meraviglia!

  • Mr. Jobim is so smooth. He had that "swagga" before all these other punks that are playing these days. Oh how I wish music was "music" these days' not that synthesized crap that is played now. Or maybe I'm just more mature for my age? Anywhoo its beautiful.

  • This song should be played on the airplane when arriving in Brazil.

  • @TiagoMancini Actually, Jobim composed his Samba de Aviao for that. Its lyrics contain Rio airport's original name, Galeao. Funnily enough, it's now called Tom Jobim Airport. Anyway, they can play both songs.

  • @TiagoMancini And what about "Samba do Avião" four minutes before landing at Galeao?

Even the jet does a little samba before landing here! ;)

  • Just timeless and beautiful.

  • Bye Bye Brazil.

  • great!

  • Bravo!!
