Mark, have you run across the problem where the pressure washer motor looses power and stalls upon engaging the washer wand? Thanks much for the video, very informative.
After putting back the relief valve exactly the way you have it in the video, it now leaks from the top when I plug in the water. What did I do wrong?
@surfnetdz It sounds like the thermal relief valve is bad or the pin fell out when you removed the thermal valve to get to the unloader. I would check that first.
You're right. The thermal valve is missing. Unfortunately, I do not know how this happened (and, where it went when I took it apert). I believe I did not see it in your video when you opened the unloader cap. Thanks.
Just a further piece of info, Mark. I have a pipe snake, which I found that in the brass end, debris had collected over time which now and then blocked the minute 4 holes in the brass end. To clear these I used a strand from a wire brush and cleared the holes this way. This only afforded a temporary solution so I drilled a 1/8 hole in the end ,tapped and inserted a screw to seal the end. To simply clear the pipe remove the screw, blast the debris out, then replace the screw. It works well!
I have the very same Pressure washer with the same problem from day 1. It appears to be a common problem with this washer. If I replace the unloader valve how long will it last till it goes again.
thanks, I did find it helpful, however My pressure washer symptom is that the entire engine will stall out upon pulling the trigger on the wand. I was suspecting a stuck unloader valve.
@MrOnnexnow I think you are on the right track with the unloader valve. It sounds like it is stuck. We have another video that you might want to take a look at. It just concentrates on the unloader valve. It is titled "How to Replace the Spill Valve on a Karcher Pressure Washer"
Your video instructions worked! My pressure washer (the same exact model as in your video with the same exact problem) is fixed (the same exact solution). I did get confused in a few instances where the video did not clearly show some of the smallest parts, but I was able to figure them out with the help of some parts diagrams. Thanks so much for your invaluable, professional help.
Nice videos. I have a really dumb question. Where do you purchase, and what brand, of silicone and Teflon grease do you get. I don't seem to be able to find it at the auto stores or department stores.
First, thanks for the DIY help! I borrowed my brothers Briggs & Stratton Elite 2550 psi washer to do my deck, and two of the five bolts holding the face plate of the pump (the outer brass section), sheared off, and water started spraying out at that point. I was looking for replacement bolts when I found your video. My question is, where do you find bolts or kits for a B&S pump? Do you have any comments about anything I should be aware of with a B&S washer? Thanks again for the big help! Butch
Same problem here... local dealer fixed it twice last summer and wants to try at it again this year. One dealer said the Karcher is made for 29 hours of service before replacement. I wish I would have know that BEFORE I bought it.
This video is very well done.... but did he replace all parts, is there a "kit" or do you have to order each piece.... can you buy "refurbished" pumps?
Great video. I greased only my unloader valve re. low pressure with good results but I also have a balky to non functioning syphon problem. I have been unsuscesful in getting the the pump off of the shaft and am working around that. What to do re. the syphon?
I took apart my pump assembly, and when I took the pump off the oil reservoir, it sprayed everywhere, it was under pressure, and the liquid that emerged was silver coloured, and had specks of metal in it. I figured I had messed up the washer completely, until I saw your video and realized it wasn't a grease or other formula, so what oil should I replace it with, and what would cause that problem?
I want to say " HOORAY" now i can repair the same karcher machine i purchased at a garage sale for 35.00 with the repair kit included,..which also has the same problem!!! now i can finally clean my decks! thanks for the great informative video..wooohoo!! Jose g.
Great video Mark! Congrats on a job well done. It was very detailed and informative. I happen to have a similar problem with a Honda excell 2500 psi pressure washer. It leaks from the bottom and has low pressure. You mentioned that the engine you worked on was a Honda. I'm gonna try fixing it. Will it be an identical pump? anything to look out for?
Thanks Mark for the Video--I have Ridgid with a Suburu 6.0 hp. I have trouble keeping the engine on. It immediately turns off after a few seconds. Not the spark plug or oil. No pressure at all when I press the wand handle. The water release valve immediately releases lots of water. What do you the problem is. The same as the problem in the video. . Would it be easier and cost effective to just buy a new pump and exchange?
@sunsglass Sounds like a carburetor problem, but you might also have a bad pump. start by draining the carb bowl and put some fresh gas in it, and see if that does the trick.
@sunsglass check the oil level in the engine, most small engines have a oil pressure sensor on them, if they detect low oil pressure, they will shut down immediately...
Great video. On the first vid, you mention 3 possibilities. 1: no pressure, 2; low pressure, and 3: inconsistent pressure. I am having no pressure on my unit and am wondering if I should take the same approach that is shown here. The engine runs fine, but I get no pressure through the hose. just curious how I should approach.
Excellent vid! I have a Craftman 7.0hp model 580.752600 pressure washer. I cant pull the start cord, I disassembled it and the cord was fine but it was hard to turn the crank. Has one of the vavles gotten stuck? I didn't manitain it very well. Thanks
@773cat No. I have a Craftsman 580 pressure washer too. Just pull the handle on the wand to relieve the back pressure and that should allow you to pull the start cord until you get it started. I had to replace the carb on mine last year and found this out during my problems with it. Now I have a low pressure problem like the technician demonstrated in this video, so I'm off to tear down my pump! Good luck!
Mark, you're awesome. Thought my parents pressure washer was shot, but after watching your video, I'm almost certain I can fix it for them. Thanks a bunch.
Nice video and very informative. I would like to know which parts you ordered new. There are a lot of seals and valves, you mentioned you ordered parts and would like to know which parts you replaced in the unit in the video. Thanks.
@dougostey The primary part that was replaced was the Unloader valve. It is what was causing the no pressure condition. Occasionally you will need to replace some of the other o-rings. The valves can become pitted and need replacing but that is very rare. As a general rule when rebuilding a pump with a no pressure condition like the one shown you will need a new unloader valve, some Teflon and silicon grease and some 30wt non-detergent oil for the pump.
@eReplacementParts Would using a non detergent 30 wt oil for a compressor be ok to use. The parts diagram for the Karcher G 2400 HH says to use Karcher Pump Oil 6.288-050.0 which is 15W40*1 that is designed to work in Karcher brand pumps. Is it that important to use that specific oil as it is expensive.I have compressor oil on hand and it would be more convenient and cheaper to use. By the way great video. I have the same pressure washer with the same problem. You make it look easy !!!
I can say you got an excellent video help all around dissembling an assembling, and most important trouble shooting, my water pressure is G2650 and it has the same parts and is identical. So to me it was a great experience.
Thanks a lot, you bet that when it is necessary to order parts is going to be from you.
this was an excellent video break down of this pump..i`am haveing a problem removeing my unloader valve can you give me any tips for a really stuck unloader valve thanks
also is there a part number for that hole rebuild kit for the hh2400 ?
@PGXI The unloader occasionally becomes a bit corroded and can be a real chore to remove. The only real advice I have is to use a pair of needle nose pliers that have a very aggressive tooth on them. A few months back I purchased a pair of Snap-On pliers that have their Talon jaws on them. Basically it is a cross-hatch tooth pattern. They seem to really grip the tab on the unloader valves well.
Video is very helpful. Thank you very much. question: I have a craftsman 3100psi 2.8gpm out of pressure could be the same problem as in the veideo? can it be repair as you didi in this video? thanks
Im starting a mobile detailing business & wanted to know if using a regular pressue washer is good enough, cuz companies that sell the system all ready to go , they say the build the pressue pumps to be better. for what detailiers are using them for.. I just wanted to know is there any differance in any pumps for that type of buisness? I wanna go as cheap as possible. Thanks !
@jktbone32 There definitely are different grades of pressure washers out there. The machine we used in our video is a homeowner unit. It is designed to be used around the house for occasional use. A commercial cleaner would put as much wear on the pressure washer in a week as most homeowners would over several years. If you are making a living with your pressure washer I would buy the highest quality machine you possibly can. In the long run it will pay off.
Great Video. My Pressure washer is doing the exact same thing. No Pressure. I will be sure to use your site for replacement parts if I need any. Thanks!
@Lexiss061295 A small amount of water in the oil is normal. A little will always work its way past the seals. If there is a large amount or if the oil level is low then you will need to replace the piston seals.
