Monk was a funny motherfu*ker. He would skip and stumble to mess with you as he extended his hand for a shake. He liked f*#kin with people. Its all fun.
This is a great clip because it shows Monk to be very warm and humorous, not just as a "Mad Genius".He suffered from a mental illness, but beneath that was a wonderful, caring, intelligent, humorous individual.Read Robin Kelley's biography of Monk,if you haven't already.
Loved the way he rocked the skully. Dude was mad old school. Ho w geniouses balance their unworldly gift and regular everyday life is facinating, GOD bless your soul THELONIOUS MONK.
Purely beyond any copy cats abilities. Monk. The only one I can say played "IN BETWEEN " keys on the piano. Loved him , even in my youth. His compositions are originals and are now timeless classics. Monk is a gentle giant . " like Monk say.. I think the fellow is hard of hearing. ".... well I think that applies even to some deaf ears today, when it comes to Monk's music.
someone didn't rate this a five? that's insane! musta been t-mans classic crack on country. lmao. 'don't blame me' is awesome, sounds a bit like stormy weather. notice how t-man and the boys are getting first class digs in copenhagen? try that in alabama at that time. phhhttt.
lol, guess he don't have chicken livers.
"i think the fellows hard of hearing." LOL, reminds me of the 'blues brothers' movie, what kind of music do you like? "both kinds, country and western".
Seventh Part [Seven of Hearts]...Here's what I love about this part: "What is more important in your work - playing on composing?" - "Both", and "Well It's hard to play those 88 keys"... He could easily break a naive and silly question about his work, just by answering with a "Thelonious answer", straightforward, funny, loveable, simple, yet wise answer...
Where you buy them motherfuckers from?....... (3:03)....LMAO.

great documentary of brilliance.

Monk was insanely great. You only get a musican like him now and then. Jazz composing still hasn't caught up with Monk.
