  • No, no one has ever done it better!

I am pretty sure it was recorded April 20, 1934 at Victor's 24th Street studios. Red Seal issue # 8452-A (I have the recording)

  • This is the beautiful lyric sound that is so compelling and I wish there more baritones like this, singing with bright tone and ease. His French is also impeccable. It is very hard to find flaws, so what made his life so miserable later in life? Perhaps a "tenore sbagliato?" I am not sure.

  • what date is the recording btw? And where was it recorded?

  • It's just not fair that the magnificient die young. Tibbett, Warren, Caruso, Bjoerling, Wunderlich...God takes the best for himself, it seems.

  • pretty remarkabale isnt it. You know at his met audition he sang this and cracked a top note. Thank God they called him back and he got signed after singing Eri Tu.

  • It is very difficult for me to listen to anything this man sings and not ask myself " who approaches the the magnificence of this man"'? Inevitably my answer is always the same. Noone. Whether he was performing an aria , oratorio, lied or a silly number from a movie , he brought everything he had to the piece and raised it to a level unattainable by other singers. A man such a this comes along but once in many lifetimes. Thanks for posting this.

  • шиккарная кантилена!!!!

  • BRAYVO!!!!

  • No seams. No register differences. Like Flagstad, a divine evenness. Not to mention the haunting beauty of this velvet baritone.

  • * * * * * Beautiful! Thanks.

  • Sublime !

  • Tibbett's voice is seamless here. From the perspective of a male singer, he has found that perfect balance which removes any evidence of registers. Bravissimo!

  • Unique color of voice!

One of the best singers ever!

  • What ever his end ... he has left behind him this legacy of masterful and exquistely performed art . He will NEVER be forgotten .

    Thanks for posting !

    David

  • Quite right: great artists cannot be ranked, however much people try... But 'favourites' are something else.... and I can see what you mean by this favourite. Thanks for sharing 'The Emperor'....

  • please check out my vocal workouts......

"alberto hernandez vocal 12,3,4,5,6,7 and 8".......appreciate any feed back...

  • ....yes, Tibbett was truly an American King of opera and song, this takes nothing away from Warren and the rest....an emotional meaningful expressive voice....tragic end...

  • Magister dixit!!

  • Amazing from the first note !

  • Thank you , Primo; his voice speaks so eloquently, the syllables just dribble forth in clarity and resonance. Cheers!

  • How gorgeous. Before Tibbett's tragic descent into the depths, he gave us much recorded evidence of his artistic greatness, as he does here --

  • beautiful. absolutely beautiful.

  • He died a lonely man, a recluse and alcoholic. How sad?

  • One of his best!Magnificent.Perhaps his best!

  • Great control and tempo!Great period!

  • With all the throaty, hooty, covered tones heard today, the baritones should learn from listening to Tibbett.
