@ronaldt491 ive read that in a few different places over the years, Ralph Stanley touches on it in his autobiography, he said Bill came to them the night before one of their recording dates, played Elvis' record for them and said "You better record that number tomorrow if you want to sell some records, i'm gonna do it myself next sunday."
@TedRob1958 Actually Buddy Spicher played on this sound track-you can see the bowing does not match what is being played. Walt Saunders in Bluegrass Unlimited said that Bennie Williams (a great fiddler) was called upon to do the video part without getting to hear the sound track. You'll also notice some of Jimmy Elrod's runs are there a couple of times when he is not doing them. I guess it would be hard to remember everything you did the day before. Still a great video.

@olehoundog1 It's unfortunate they didn't have the technology to record the live performance and capture it on film for this movie. Obviously, they had a very small budget. Some of the performers' recreations in the movie are better than others.
Then came elvis.........

Notice the Elvis influence on the second part. I've read Bill liked Elvis' version and redid Blue Moon as Elvis had done it.
