@runningcockroach I mean if you're badass enough to track it down yourself and go find whoever has it that's fine but the technology is supposed to be used by police. In my town, nothing happens. The police get called if the wind blows too hard and makes noise outside. Haha :)
these are good to deter "thefts of opportunity". like if u leave the room, and someone happens to see your notebook, they prolly dont have wire cutters on them.
A Kensington lock is not to prevent someone from steeling a notebook itself. Its just making it difficult for people who just walk into a library and take unwatched notebooks.
It will make sure that the bastard cant take it without attracting any attention...
Kensington locks, like most locks only do 1 thing, keep honest people, honest. They only deter the opportunistic thief who looking for a quick grab and dash. If they really want your laptop they will get it. A simple bolt cutters will cut virtually any kensinigton cable. But, your average thief isn't walking through Barnes & Noble cafe with a bolt cutter looking to steal a laptop off a table where someone got up to get their latte. Your average thief wants the unlocked, unattended laptop.
Buying Lojack is a better deal. Yeah, its a hundred dollars and doesn't physically protect your laptop but if it does get stolen the police can track the Lojack GPS and locate your laptop for you. Kind of like ADT for computers.
OK, clearly this guy knows nothing about locks. Any RETRACTABLE lock has to have a diameter of cable thin enough to be rolled back into its casing, clearly the 2mm - 3mm used on this lock is designed for portability and travel, to be used as a deterrent and guard against opportunistic thieves. If it was any thicker it would not be able to be retracted and the cable would be too tense to roll. Also the fact that he named this HOW TO DEFEAT THE KENSINGTON MICROSAVER LAPTOP LOCK -is utter rubbish
A little pair of wire cutters won't cut open their 1/4 inch cable on a few models. And if they see a laptop with a lock on it it would generally be too much work. If i was a thief i'd just steal the ones out in the open.
in vids i watched they don't do that, they just get from ur bag when ur bag is right beside u, right just under ur chair in a restaurant, very creepy,,,,lol
Kensington is a fucking joke. I wouldn't be surprised if thieves have been found dead during burglaries after laughing so hard at the owner's pathetic security attempt.
LOL im going uni and i thought yeh this looks good....now all my hope is basically gone because to be fair, how fucking easy is that. FFS. Good video though
you do realise that if you cut the wire it sets off the alarm?Fucking dipshit,I'm a qualified locksmith and I know that the only way to crack one of those without setting off the alarm is to crack the combo.
There's an earth wire running through the cord,if you cut it it breaks the circuit and sets off an alarm,in this case he did not have it wired up.Stop pretending you know stuff that you don't.
no there isnt! stop pretending ur some master locksmith yourself! this lock is merely thin wire filaments twisted into a thicker wire - what exactly is it going to earth 2? in the form it is in ther, it is simply a long wire! if u think that wire is thick enough to hold a circuit (because an earth is impossible, what if it attaches to a plastic/non conductive surface) and plastic non conductor between the circuit, and still be strong enough to provide mechanical security, you are sadly mistaken.
and where do u propose the alarm bell itself is located? cos the barrel of the lock is the same size as the combination rings on it. no room for any other circuitry.
hes right at school the teachers have these on there laptops and some one tried to steal one with scissors and an alarm went off, we thought it was the fire alarm lol
no, ur teacher had the alarmed kensington, this is just a basic mechanical wire anchor, its not large enough to have the alarm in it - check out the kensington website. There is a whole alarmed range, but this is the simple strong wire kind.
oh and one final thing, kensington DO provide alarmed locks, but these have thicker cables as there is a CIRCUIT in them, but these are permanently wired, and if the wire is cut at any time, the alarm goes off. check out their product range buddy.
Some ladies were outside my shop and one started leaning against the large glass window store front. When I heard a creaking noise coming from the glass I politely asked her to stop leaning against it as it isnt safe. I was told I needed to upgrade to stronger glass so people could lean on it! Retarded bitch
Yeah, that IS a bad analogy. Standard windows are not security devices. Now, if you paid a bunch of money for shatterproof windows (the kind with metal mesh in them) only to find the whole frame could just be unscrewed, you'd have every right to be pissed.

Dude. There's no alarm in that style lock. The big part is just where the wire has an internal spool for easy storage.

So if someone breaks a window in your house and gets in a steals your stuff, it is because the window was defective??
mtsr81 4 years ago
Shit analogy - If someone breaks a window in your house with such a minimal amount of effort, you DO have poor windows.

Because it would take so much effort to throw a rock through a window...use your head.
