  • I have to say that Daryl's version is the best!! I was 12yrs old when this came out and it touched my deeply then as it has again now. Sherbet was the band in the 70's and got to meet Alan Sandow (drummer) when he came to my work... :)

  • Dear wattever333: I guess I just was relating the years in the 70s. Thanks for the update. He is still my favor in the 70s time era .

  • Just remember everyone: Daryl sang this first in 1974. and Helen Reddy copied this in 1977, so who is the original singer. Yes Daryl, Australia and Canada place you first. xx tequila484

  • @Tequila484 and Cilla Black sang it in 64, and Umberto Bindi in 63.

  • I wish to dispute the fact Helen Reddy exceeded this song. OMG: Daryl just the perfect voice and he touches my heart . To me you are number one and I will say this over and over again until the end of the world.xx tequila484

  • The Canadians say otherwise: your voice smokes Helen Reddy's. USA may say you have the voice , but you hold one better, you hold the heart of a Canadian gal because you made your life a part of hers by attending a funeral of someone she called he was the end of the world for her. xx tequila484. Your voice is the song.

  • Canada loves you. tequila484

  • Dear Daryl: On Oct.5th/2011. will be one year you attended Johns Cave funeral. You are my strength and respect for doing this for me. As someone posted Helen Reddy gave chills , well hon, you did one better, You live in side my heart and happy to say you are the voice of my past love, You cannot do better than that. xx tequila484.

  • I tried to get on the sight of higher than hope and told me could not reach this destination. can you change this for me , I live in Canada and I think it should be available as remember , ones that love and share his music live all around the world.tequila484

  • As I read the USA made Helen Reddy a major success in the USA with this song, but I will say you are a greater success in my eyes from Canada.

  • Daryl: remember you so well when I lived in Australia in the 70s from Canada. John Cave and I chose this song for us. Thank you for being not just the super star but a real artist to attend his funeral. Made a trip from Canada in Sept.2010 to see John when asked me to see him again , so glad I did but the heart and the tears miss him so much. Thanks so much, you are the big piece in our memory I have left to hold on. Thank you, your my world.

  • In my country, The United States, this song was a huge hit for Helen Reddy who, ironically, was born in Australia. She attained her greatest success, however, in America. While this version is ok, Helen Reddy's will move you to tears and give you the chills. No comparison, I'm sorry.

  • @TheTruthHurtsAlot3 Helen Reddy is now living in Australia and works as a professional hypnotherapist. Helen Reddy is a proud Australian export (she is an Australian performer) who did vey well internationally... however, I think the mentality of Australian public at the time was to support those closer to home.. those they could actually see live. Daryl Braithwaite's popularity was not due to he being a solo performer, but as the lead singer of the very popular Sherbet; hence the # 1 status.

  • Great band and a very unique voice. Love Sherbet...nzoz take care AND THANKS for posting.

  • the greatest lead singer form the greatest group from the greatest country.don't smoke kids.

  • the greatest lead singer form the greatest group from the greatest country.

  • The guy who wrote this song also wrote "Ti Amo", that Laura Branigan sang so damn well. beethovenbix- you are a moron. do some basic reseqarch before showing the world what a fuckwit you seem to be :P

  • @mercuryboy669 The guy who wrote this song is Umberto BINDI. The guy who wrote "Ti Amo" is Umberto TOZZI. Umberto TOZZI also wrote "Gloria". He had big hits with both of those songs in Italy. And Laura Branigan had big hits with English versions as well.

Umberto BINDI and Umberto TOZZI are two completely different people. BINDI died in 2002. TOZZI is alive and well today in 2011.

@beethovenbix Sherbet was one of the most "original"Aussie acts of all. They did great covers too.

  • This was my wedding song, huge fan of sherbet and daryl

  • well, it was '74. Still love him.

  • interesting harmonies

  • very cool!

  • Yeh it was 1974 an have any of u heard daryl sing this today...Awsome...Daryl today is no where the singer he is today..live..

  • Hes still hot today!

  • i smoke Grass for 35 years=do you

  • Helen Reddy and Cilla Black had the hits of this song for a reason... check them out!

  • try the other live of his version .. he did a great job for this song live!

  • good song but not sung well - i dont like his version

  • I do agree with this assessment, without being so harsh.

Because I could see some people maybe liking this version. (I mean Braithwaite's version, live or not). But the ultimate version of this song is still the one done by Miss Cilla Black (that's the one that comes from deep in the gut & soul, that this song really demands to be sung as. Because it's suppose to be a song about how broken someone is from unreciprocated love -- which I just don't hear in this version).

  • Relax with the cap-typing, it makes one think you are reacting.

Surely, with your knowledge of early 70's music you would know that Daryl Braithwaite was the leadsinger of Sherbet - Australia's biggest teen act of the 70's, who had more original material than covers. You do know this, right? Or are you new to 70's Australasian music.

I agree with the cover-artists outnumbering originals - however, addressing Daryl Braithwaite as 'this guy' does make one feel confident in your 70's trivia.

  • @nzoz1974 Daryl is great but Skyooks was the biggest Teen act of the 70's!

  • @hooks76 in singles terms, sherbet did better
