If you get a RIP contract at MEPs, you'll do basic, AIT, Jump, and then RIP. After RIP you'll be a batt boy for a year or so and they'll send you to ranger school. You'll get messed with until you either deploy, or graduate ranger school.

If you just want to go to ranger school, join an Infantry unit and just go through PRC.

If you just want into batt, go in as a soft skill, they grade them easier. You won't get to do some of the cool stuff, but chicks don't know the difference

Lots of misinformation going on here... The Option 40 contract is what you want if you wish to be in a Ranger Battalion. If you want to be a Ranger then you must INSIST on this at MEPS and get it guaranteed in your contract. If they say they have no more slots available, have them call the Recruiting Operations Center or "ROC" to see what is available. Don't take no for an answer and don't leave MEPS without your Option 40!!!

You don't need Ranger school in your contract. Most units will bend over backward to get you in if they think you can make it. But, yeah, you should definitely do it if you get the chance. Do pre-Ranger first, though, so you get a little preview of the real deal.

You are correct. The 101st is Air Assault. The Army also has HALO. In Fact the Marines go to the ARMY Airborne School at Fort Benning. They also go to the ARMY HALO School at Fort Bragg. Marine Tankers do their AIT at Fort Knox and are trained by the Army as well. But, after 20+ years in the Army I respect everyone who serves a country I truly love. In addition, the C-130s, C-141s, and C-17s I jumped out of were piloted by the Air Force.
