God Bless you - you now don't have to be a 'protest-ant' anymore. by being a Catholic you are following Jesus Christ and his clear instruction to St Peter to be the rock for his Church and us followers. I have been involved with protest-ant churches over many years and finally returned to the Catholic faith, which is about prayer and personal petition through the mass, holy sacriment, confession and the Bible.

I have known many people who switched from Denomination A to Denomination B, and others who switched from Denomination B to Denomination A. Both categories say the switch was the smartest thing they ever did.
I converted to the Catholic faith nearly 7 years ago now. I work for a number of Catholic apologetics organizations and I travel and do talks. The only problem I see with what you just said is that the Catholic Church is not a denomination. You have Catholicism, Orthodoxy, and Protestantism. The only denominations are within protestantism: congregational, methodist, episcopal, lutheran, ect. There are no denominations within Catholicism or Orthodoxy, we might even one day see the Orthodox come back into full communion with Rome which would be great for everyone. -God Bless

He means the great skism in 1054, however the pope didn't leave the council the patriark of Constantinople broke it off with the pope in Rome and became the leader of the Orthodoks church, then it split into the Greek- Orthodoks and Russian Orthodoks church and the Middle East went its own way too. I would as an historian say that it was the EO that changed and was split numerous times whereas the Roman cath. remained the same but it probably depends if you ask a religious p or a historian.

Ironically, the catholic church had banned the reading of the Bible, and endorsed only one latin translation.
As scholars from constantinople drifted onto the scene, the real Bible was returned to the people in the original hebrew and greek, and the latin translation was shown to be warped and altered. The invention of the printing press allowed widespread distribution, and the people woke up to the lie.
ONLY AFTER this, were the apocryphal books accepted as canon. An emergency stop-gap.
Unfortunately for you, yours is a twisted and pathetic level of knowledge on the Canon and Biblical issues. Many early Fathers that spoke Latin also spoke and wrote in Greek and NOT A SINGLE Church Father rejected the Deuterocanon, the books you label Apocrypha. The only one to seem as such was Jerome, who himself later accepted them as well! No Latin translation was altered or warped.
You seemingly don't know a thing about textual criticism or anything about the Biblical manuscripts.
Augustine, one of the most important Church Fathers we have to look to wrote in both Latin and Greek and many of his extant Latin manuscripts are some of the MOST IMPORTANT surviving manuscripts that attest to the New Testament's earliest manuscripts. There was no real Bible that was returned to the PEOPLE as you claim. That sounds silly. Every single early Father that used the books you label Apocrypha used those books and called them SACRED SCRIPTURE.
These books are listed among the ANCIENT CODICES, along with OTHER SCRIPTURE and at all the early CHURCH councils they were deemed CANONICAL because this is how the Church has always viewed them. Rather than coming here and posting your Jack Chick type of argumentation, I suggest you actually read books that deal with the Canon and speak about Textual criticism. You only make yourself sound silly. I can only imagine what other misconceptions you harbor about the Church.

The Catholic faith recognizes Jesus as only LORD and Savior also. The Bible doesn't say that you cannot call anyone Father, but rather chastises the Pharisees in particular and anyone who usurps the role of GOD. The Greek word PATERES, for FATHER is used for many persons in the Bible. Statues were also used in the Bible in a way that was NOT idolatry. I suggest you really get in touch with a scholarly Christian work instead of using old arguments that have been refuted hundreds of years back.

What people don't understand is that in the language that the bible was first written by the Apostales, they had no word for cousin or relative, so when describing a relative or close one (ex. john) they used brother or sister. John Paul II says, the two are the one lung with its two sides, can't survive one without the other. Therefore, let us seek unity, we have the same sacraments, and priesthood. God bless.

Surely a more credible explanation would be that there is no 'living god' guiding our lives and answering our prayers. If there were surely he would guide everyone in the same direction, but I hear many different churches proclaiming that they have the one true faith and all others are wrong.

Your problem isn't a issue of religion it is an issue of Faith. I was born Catholic and still attend just because I am used to it. Those extra books(apocrypha) in the Catholic bible are a product of sweat and blood not of inspiration. They were written to bridge the gap between the scriptures and Catholic dogma and tradition. Jesus never preached religion only the taking care of the bereft.

Catholics don't expect saints to forgive sins. Catholics recieve salvation from Christ Jesus. We do not worship statues or any graven image, idols. Idoalty, hersery, and polythesim is a great way for excommunication from the Catholic Church.

I believe anyone that accepts Jesus as their savior will go to Heaven wether your Catholic, protestant or whatever. I dont agree with the act of asking saints to pray for you or confessing your sins to a priest because I believe we can speak directly to Jesus and He answers. Confessions of sins is Biblical but you confess your sins to JESUS. Hes the one that died for you, not the saints. Orthodoxy practices Confession before a priest like Roman Catholicism does. However we have a very belief about it. The RCC believes that the priest functions as Christ forgiving sins. The Orthodox priest acts as a witness/respresentative of the church wo sees your repentence
I should also add that in the Orthodox church we do not see confession as a "milestone" or "requirement" to "earn salvation" as some may think. Through confession and listening to siritaul guidance, we allow God to convict and eventually cure us of the sins we confess.

God will judge men. I will judge RC doctrine against the scriptures. RC doctrine teaches salvation comes by works. The true Catholic therefore rejects God's grace.

It is truly sad that no one has ever presented the Catholic faith to you... But a lot of times the onus is on you to search for truth (Which is out there!). Seek and ye shall find, not sit and it will be given. I recommend reading St. Faustina's diary, which talks about God's Divine Mercy, the graces given to her by God, and total surrender to His will. She was a mystic--meaning she regularly spoke with and saw Jesus, Mary, and angels. She developed a close union with God in her lifetime.

God Bless you - you now don't have to be a 'protest-ant' anymore. by being a Catholic you are following Jesus Christ and his clear instruction to St Peter to be the rock for his Church and us followers. I have been involved with protest-ant churches over many years and finally returned to the Catholic faith, which is about prayer and personal petition through the mass, holy sacriment, confession and the Bible.

I have known many people who switched from Denomination A to Denomination B, and others who switched from Denomination B to Denomination A. Both categories say the switch was the smartest thing they ever did.

The only problem I see with what you just said is that the Catholic Church is not a denomination. You have Catholicism, Orthodoxy, and Protestantism. The only denominations are within protestantism: congregational, methodist, episcopal, lutheran, ect. There are no denominations within Catholicism or Orthodoxy, we might even one day see the Orthodox come back into full communion with Rome which would be great for everyone. -God Bless

Like the video, I was protestant, then Catholic - Roman Catholic. Aka Western Roman Catholocism.
Then I went into Eastern Orthodox Catholic church. Aka Eastern Orthodox.
I believe the EO side of the Great Schism. EO hasn't changed since the original 7 councils. RO changed because the pope went out of the council.
That's a 1000 year old debate though.

He means the great skism in 1054, however the pope didn't leave the council the patriark of Constantinople broke it off with the pope in Rome and became the leader of the Orthodoks church, then it split into the Greek- Orthodoks and Russian Orthodoks church and the Middle East went its own way too. I would as an historian say that it was the EO that changed and was split numerous times whereas the Roman cath. remained the same but it probably depends if you ask a religious p or a historian.

Ironically, the catholic church had banned the reading of the Bible, and endorsed only one latin translation.
As scholars from constantinople drifted onto the scene, the real Bible was returned to the people in the original hebrew and greek, and the latin translation was shown to be warped and altered. The invention of the printing press allowed widespread distribution, and the people woke up to the lie.
ONLY AFTER this, were the apocryphal books accepted as canon. An emergency stop-gap.

Unfortunately for you, yours is a twisted and pathetic level of knowledge on the Canon and Biblical issues. Many early Fathers that spoke Latin also spoke and wrote in Greek and NOT A SINGLE Church Father rejected the Deuterocanon, the books you label Apocrypha. The only one to seem as such was Jerome, who himself later accepted them as well! No Latin translation was altered or warped.
You seemingly don't know a thing about textual criticism or anything about the Biblical manuscripts.

Augustine, one of the most important Church Fathers we have to look to wrote in both Latin and Greek and many of his extant Latin manuscripts are some of the MOST IMPORTANT surviving manuscripts that attest to the New Testament's earliest manuscripts. There was no real Bible that was returned to the PEOPLE as you claim. That sounds silly. Every single early Father that used the books you label Apocrypha used those books and called them SACRED SCRIPTURE.

These books are listed among the ANCIENT CODICES, along with OTHER SCRIPTURE and at all the early CHURCH councils they were deemed CANONICAL because this is how the Church has always viewed them. Rather than coming here and posting your Jack Chick type of argumentation, I suggest you actually read books that deal with the Canon and speak about Textual criticism. You only make yourself sound silly. I can only imagine what other misconceptions you harbor about the Church.

By 'banned the reading of the Bible' do you mean they allowed the Catholics to learn all that had to learn in the form os Stained-Glass windows, wall-plaques such as Stations of the Cross and other Catholic art?
Such Catholic art was actually for the benefit of people that can not read, and back in the day, that was just about everyone, so not only were Catholics allowed to read the Bible, it was there in picture format to 'also include' those that couldn't read.

The Catholic faith recognizes Jesus as only LORD and Savior also. The Bible doesn't say that you cannot call anyone Father, but rather chastises the Pharisees in particular and anyone who usurps the role of GOD. The Greek word PATERES, for FATHER is used for many persons in the Bible. Statues were also used in the Bible in a way that was NOT idolatry. I suggest you really get in touch with a scholarly Christian work instead of using old arguments that have been refuted hundreds of years back.

What people don't understand is that in the language that the bible was first written by the Apostales, they had no word for cousin or relative, so when describing a relative or close one (ex. john) they used brother or sister. Many people misunderstand this and think that it ment that Mary had other children. Btw the language isn't Latin..cuz I always thoughte it was!

I wasn't baptised until I was six, because the catholic priest of my parents' parish wanted too much money. Then an unmarried priest tried to tell me that no sex is good for me. Then lots of other BS... it was simply too much.

Your problem isn't a issue of religion it is an issue of Faith. I was born Catholic and still attend just because I am used to it. Those extra books(apocrypha) in the Catholic bible are a product of sweat and blood not of inspiration. They were written to bridge the gap between the scriptures and Catholic dogma and tradition. Jesus never preached religion only the taking care of the bereft.

I dont agree with the act of asking saints to pray for you or confessing your sins to a priest because I believe we can speak directly to Jesus and He answers. I dont consider myself a part of any specific religion but I am attending a Baptist Church where I was recently baptized and I agree with them so far.

Confessions of sins is Biblical but you confess your sins to JESUS. Hes the one that died for you, not the saints. And it says clearly not to make graven images of anything in the earth or sky to pray to. Its in the 10 commandments. And I am not angry, though it seems like you are. Jesus is the only mediator between God and man and it says so repeatedly in the Bible, so I would like to see where does it say that you should pray to saints. Honestly, let me know. God bless you.

Orthodoxy practices Confession before a priest like Roman Catholicism does. However we have a very belief about it. The RCC believes that the priest functions as Christ forgiving sins. The Orthodox priest acts as a witness/respresentative of the church wo sees your repentence

I should also add that in the Orthodox church we do not see confession as a "milestone" or "requirement" to "earn salvation" as some may think. Through confession and listening to siritaul guidance, we allow God to convict and eventually cure us of the sins we confess.

Believing in him is the KEY TO THE DOOR. Without that key (belief) salvation is not possible. But after being given that key (the opportunity) you have to work it... deeds. That's why James tells us that faith without works is dead. 1st step, faith. 2nd step, works. Don't elude yourself.. you will be judged by your deeds. Lord, Lord, alone, will not get you to paradise.

God will judge men. I will judge RC doctrine against the scriptures. RC doctrine teaches salvation comes by works. The true Catholic therefore rejects God's grace.
RC Canon #24 - "If any one saith, that the justice received is not preserved and also increased before God through good works; but that the said works are merely the fruits and signs of Justification obtained, but not a cause of the increase thereof; let him be anathema."

You guys can debate all these scott hahn arguments about who has the complete and true faith all you want. Here are the facts, I have never been witnessed to by a Catholic, EVER!! I have never had any catholic warn me of the Judgement to come, ever. I have never had any catholic tell me of Gods incredible grace ever. Never invited to surrender to God Ever!!! So if Catholics have all the devine truth, Why are they so lousy at presenting it!!!!!

I sense anger in your note. You may want to look at the Pope and history of the church. That is your witness.The witness to the world. You won't find any other church that is followed more by the media.I don't see many Protestant churches trying to pull all religions to gether to come to one comone ground like the catholic church.

It is truly sad that no one has ever presented the Catholic faith to you... But a lot of times the onus is on you to search for truth (Which is out there!). Seek and ye shall find, not sit and it will be given. I recommend reading St. Faustina's diary, which talks about God's Divine Mercy, the graces given to her by God, and total surrender to His will. She was a mystic--meaning she regularly spoke with and saw Jesus, Mary, and angels. She developed a close union with God in her lifetime.

Have you ever read, "The Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel?
It's about an agnostic who asks expert theologicans tough questions about such issues as, "Is the Bible reliable?" "Can the witnesses of the events in the gospel be trusted?" "Is there historical evidence that Christ existed?" These are a small fraction of the questions that he asks.
Anyone who reads it will have so much to think about and reflect upon. I wholeheartedly recommend it for anyone who is curious about these things.

Guys, quit bickering over whether Mary had children after Jesus was born. A very good case could be made that she did, or didn't... Christians unite over what is REALLY important. There's not enough evidence for EITHER side to prove their case. God Bless those on both sides of this never ending argument.

The Apostles and early Christians taught Mary remained a Virgin her whole life and that belief was mostly unchallenged for well over a thousand years until Protestants called it into question.

In the Hebrew and Aramaic language there was no separate word for cousin, so words such as brother, brethren, and sister were used. These terms were also used for other relatives and non-relatives who were close to the person. here are some examples.

For mattkade, I'm glad that you're a firm believer in God, but you're misinformed on Mary; she was born without the Original Sin. This is why she is known as The Immaculate Conception; a title revealed by Mary Herself at Lourdes to Saint Bernadette (an incorruptible saint)...
