  • 2:35 Epic -"Ohhh fuck , here we go again . Shut the fuck up stupid cunt!"- moment !

  • this debate was so fucking painful to watch. i feel so sorry for harris and shermer. deepak and jean are idiots and the crowd sucked.

  • Deepak Chopra and Jean Houston were such idiots I was embarrassed for them when they spoke.

  • Why is God "the ultimate concern"?? I get so frustrated hearing this over and over again from her. We have global starvation, warring zones and a **** meteor might be heading for earth. And still we have to talk about Gods influence???

  • Where did they find that crazy woman?

  • So I think I've figured it out. Whenever Jean has heard a brillant person talk, she assumes that they are just speaking non-sense and she thinks "if I sound like that then I will sound brilliant", what she didn't realize is that most rational people can understand other rational people, she just isn't one of them.

  • Someone gag that woman. Where's a muslim to whip this woman???

  • I thought this was a great debate. Thank you for posting this.

  • Speaking in terms of mannerism, Jean is like the female version of William Shatner.

  • jean stfu

  • the Buddha was a reductionist....so what has deepthroat choker got against him

  • Well, I think what Jean actually means is "I'm glad we're living through the times where spirituality and science can have a meaningful dialogue to try and break through closer to the truth."

It was well put and it demonstrates clearly the extent of the contribution spirituality can make:

It will make you feel good but won't really get you anywhere.

Deepak's another Boteach to me. Lot of fluff but little else. His contribution to this debate is to remind others to be careful on semantics.

  • Where's the part in this where Jean creates a magic carriage from a pumpkin?

  • Jean...... what on earth are you talking about?

  • what's worrying is when you look at jean's face you can see she thinks she's really tackling the issues and she really thinks that she's smart..

  • Few films with a deliberate comedic intention have induced the degree of humor and mirth as this set of 12 videos...... when Faulty Towers is on loan to a friend I will always have this!

  • Is she the William Shatner in drag?????

  • Sam = We know enough about the brain and how it works to feel confident we can move forward without religion.

Michael = Let's just throw out the obvious crap and stick to what we can prove to be true.

Deepak = I've lost the capacity to determine what reality is like when I'm not dropping acid.

Jean = I've got this massively brilliant point I'd like to make, but have no idea what it might be.

  • After watching all 12 parts, I am left with one quandary;

Who invited the crazy cat lady? She really stood out as not belonging in the discussion. I'm sure there were other women who would have actually been capable of meaningful participation in the actual discussion at hand.

  • sam harris talks sense.

  • Deepak hates graphs.

  • Bitch intervened before Sam could get applause for his customary brilliance.

  • I think what Harris said about Jesus in incorrect. There are many people in the world today, and probably even in that room, who can't display some of the values he did. Look at the raging debate in the United States about universal healthcare and the incredible pettiness manifested by it. What would Jesus think of that, given what we know of him? Or the way many of us demonize people in prison when he talked about visiting them.

  • Regarding Deepak's Wu Wu: He aims to transcend ego but I feel nothing but embarrassment for his.

  • @danrathje What wu wu?

  • Jean is very melodramatic. I don't want to undermine that epic poem though.

  • 1. Oh dear !! To summarize all the comments, Jean = fail.

    2. Great to see Sam elegantly clobber and massacre Deepak Chopra repeatedly.

    3. It was astounding to see how shameless Deepak Chopra is ... and how churlish.

  • Why do they get someone who is only capable of spouting abstract quotes and anecdotes to represent the female side of things. Le Sigh.

  • @leighalison1983 Because sexism is alive and well. Obviously a woman had to represent the abstract quotes and anecdotes, men are far too rational...

  • jean.. that is one fucking stupid whore

  • Jean thinks she knows everything. >.>

  • After hearing jean speak, I have a very confusing boner.

  • BAHAHAHAHA GO TO 3:25 she's like the Mrs Bucket of religious debate, completely irrelevant and meaningless with every comment hahahha - great stuff, might make an animated GIF of this

  • @GustavBalderdash

    The Bucket-residence, Hyacinth speaking!

    Love that show

  • That woman is a distraction.

  • Could anyone translate all this jean-speak into english?

  • Jean really loves to hear herself talk.

  • @Wood111112 Reminds me of (South Park)the smug citizens of San Francisco who like the smell of their own farts.

  • what is she talking about??!!!!

  • @carypt LOL ...seriously.. sounds like she's in a Shakespearean play

  • He was a really great mediator.

  • I get this unnerving feeling that all atheists begin with the erroneous belief that God is fundamentally unjust. Thus, they find solace in their sincerely adamant proposition that God simply does not exist. Is any serious person interested in expanding on this?

  • @ibzzibrahim I think that is a reasonable feeling. I think it may be possible that some atheists believe that God is unjust but believers obviously believe that God is 100% just and loving. From the debates and ideas I've heard it seems to make quite a bit more sense to think that God is unjust and cruel than to think he is Loving. Atheists can at least point to some reasons on how unjust God is where as it seems all believers can really say is that God "just is" loving, caring etc...

  • @ibzzibrahim

I often experience this or some version of theists describing atheists in some way as "rejecting" their particular god because we think he is unfair and mean. This is as far from truth as you can get. The god of the Bible is indeed a monster. However, it is the concept that is rejected simply based on lack of evidence.

  • What deepak says at the start is so fucking bullshit. Anyone that has studied biology will know how much more amazing nature is than what we just experience. Knowing just how intricate the workings of our cells are only enriches the great phenomenon that is life.

  • 3:25-3:27 "is that a flying cookie?!"

  • jean is like the cat lady at the end of the street. I bet she has cats.

  • 2:27 uh... uh...

  • Comment removed

  • 2:45 This is why people must understand the difference between word play, children poetry and good poetry. Fuck your childishness Jean.

  • Deepak is in pain, shut him down!

  • @ had0406 ; it's not that religion isn't "good".. it's that its bullshit. once you've come to grips with the fact that we're floating through a border-less expanse for no apparent reason, then you can get on with the existential reality. there is NO pragmatic reason to believe in soul, afterlife, or spirituality in any sense. Your just here and not for long.. no particular meaning, purpose or sentiment.

  • THEY DONT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THE FUTURE OF GOD ONCE EVERYONE REALIZES THE BASIC POINT THAT RELIGION IS NOT GOOD. SHOULD THAT NOT BE THE POINT OF THIS DISCUSSION? SO THAT THEY CAN GIVE AN ANSWER TO US PEOPLE WHO ARE BEYOND RELIGION ALREADY, SO THAT WE CAN USE WHAT THEY SHOULD HAVE TOLD US TO BETTER OUR/EVERYONES LIFE. ?

  • yeah we understand that old religion styles are archaic, irrelevant and detrimental..BUT WHAT DO WE DO NOW!? Even if all these smart people meet to discuss what we should do now...how should the people know what to do? WHAT SHOULD WE DO/what should we think/how should we implement that in order to change the world and make it better? What should we do BEYOND recognizing that we need this change to occur!? THAT WAS NEVER ANSWERED IN THE SLIGHTEST. Help the normal people out with what to do

  • WTF jean??? She really has no clue what anybody on that stage was talking about...I don't even know if she payed any attention

  • If we found God today it would most likely scar our fragile little minds that fail to experience anything beyond the physical, so it God waits till we come to the brink of self induced destruction or until we are strong enough to still be human along side of it. If you were God(which we are) would you reveal yourself to your creation before it found it's own meaning? The problem is few are ready to be human God's, and are seen by our own as contamination. I long for when we are ready to change.

  • An honest Theist does not and has never existed. The religious lie both intentionally and unintentionally. To lie to one self, is the foundation of blind faith.

  • Jean Houston is like Family Guy with only with theology instead of comedy.

  • why is shatner's sister in this?

  • Jean = 100% twilight zone episode.

  • Conclusion: The future of god is on dusty bookshelves in a distant corners of libraries and on webpages with no hits.

  • I skipped ahead every time jean spoke.

  • jean definitely eats the cake.

  • The problem with Jean and Deepak's arguments is that they never and never are willing to give their precise definition of god. I think that is what is meant by "fuzzy language," no one knows what the hell you are talking about; as if they attempt to support their argument through deliberate confusion.

  • Jean, if you're on something..........snap out of it !

  • I like sam's intellectual eyebrow

  • wtf is going @ 2:27-2:30 thats weird...

  • @Cobra9876

    Its Sams intellectual cumshot

  • Who let the crazy lady in?

  • my deepest respects for Harris and Shermer. It takes a lot of strength to remain polite with that clown Jean on the same stage. They deserve a special "thank you" from the organisers for not pulling faces when she speaks, and blasting "Jean what the fuck are you talking about?!" what an insult to them to put her on the same stage.... if they put a "debate with houston" on their CV, it might actually reduce their credentials...

  • Jean: "and that we are in that tremendous time in which these are the times and we are the people who will profoundly make a differences whether we grow or die, and part of it is part of what we've been seeing today, which is the exploration into the meaning, the purpose, the dynamic, the becoming of that which we have called god."

    fuck you Jean.

  • @sidewinderxx I love this discussions but they always fuck it by having somebody like jean... Please notice that I didn't even feel like using a fucking capital letter when I wrote her name. fuck her!

  • @sidewinderxx Why?

  • I died and rose again during Jean's speech.

  • *watches bottle of gin rolling out under Jean's chair*

  • @sonykroket Ad hominem attack. Hitchens was a massive drunk, so, your point is...?

  • @squamish4244

Hitchens drinking says nothing about the validity of his arguments

    So your point is?

  • @sonykroket Well, it seemed like you were criticizing her on the validity of her argument by making fun of her drinking, or why would you even have mentioned it? If I brought up Hitchens' drinking on one of his videos with a line like yours, I wouldn't get 24 thumbs up, that's for sure.

  • @squamish4244

WTF is your point? Jean is clueless and stupid and Hitchens wasn't

Alcohol only amplifies whats already there

  • @sonykroket Well, now you've decided to switch the argument to where it might have validity - the actual content of what she said. But just attacking her for being a drunk isn't going to cut it. Your claim about alcoholism is questionable - it creates as many problems as it 'amplifies' other tendencies. Also, Hitchens said a lot of clueless and stupid things about the war in Iraq, if you want to argue that.

  • @squamish4244

I guess you're not smart enough to have a sense of humor, uptight dorkie

Also, stop acting likei care about your patronising BS

  • @sonykroket You sure sound like you care.

  • @squamish4244

Yea, i care about making dorkies like you look ridiculous, cheating dumbass

  • @sonykroket Meh whatever.

  • @squamish4244

    Meh you're an idiot

  • @sonykroket Meh meh!

  • @squamish4244

Yes, we know you clowns believe in bronze-age sheepherder fairytales

I guess you're the sheep then

  • @sonykroket No fruit nectar? Is she in a reclined position? Is her mind on her money? Or is her money on her mind?

  • Jean,Jean Jean,Jean. HAhahahahaha. exactly , cake!

  • Imagine being on a road trip with Deepak and Jean Houston. HOLY JESUS FUCK!

  • lol, love the look on Michaels face when Jean starts her rant...

  • @Evasen "We are a creation, therefore there must be a Creator."

This is a deeply flawed concept. Each of us was "created" by our parents via natural biological processes we understand quite well. No cosmic entity is required for this. To label us "creations" simply to semantically invoke the necessity of a "creator" is nothing more than a philosophical vocabulary shell game.

  • there was one person to many on this... i mean one woman....

  • Jean shut the hell up.

  • My peeshee fell off halfway through Jean's speech.

  • jean is elevated just a hair over deepak's incoherent, irrelevant babble

  • Jean can recite a thousand page of a thousand books... yet nobody understood a damn thing she's talking about... Why? because she's comfortable making up her own fucking language... LOL.

  • And, Jean Houston is wak- a doo!

  • Deepak Chopra is a dope! I get the impression he is such a clown because he can be. Him, kicking back and enjoying all the money he has made from a similar room full of suckers.

  • i never thought id say this but this woman proves there are people even more deluded than the confused Deepak Chopra

  • "Whence this creation has arisen – perhaps it formed itself, or perhaps it did not – the one who looks down on it, in the highest heaven, only he knows – or perhaps he does not know."

  • I think one of the greatest tragedies of modern times is that Jean Houston wasn't cast as Professor Trelawny in the Harry Potter films

  • @LudvigIndestrucable Omg!! Your right, she practically IS Trelawny!

  • I commend her on finding the most efficient and thorough way to get my memory to repress the last 120 minutes.

  • I want to punch Jean in the face.

  • Okay so this lady panelist likes poetry, etc but what does it prove or show? Whenever we are having serious discussions we should use evidence and logic, all other things like beautiful prose/poetry are accessories. Would the lady like a jury in judgement over her listen to someone talk as if they were an actor in a Shakespeare play or would she want the jury to listen to them talk facts and logic? Beautiful poetry is inspiring and emotionally uplifting but what does it have to do with answers.

  • Wow. I cannot believe I actually made it to clip 12/12. It helped having skipped the lady, so kudos to all who pointed that out. Thank you @AtheistMediaBlog for putting this up. It learned a lot about the debating techniques and way of reasoning of obscurantists!

  • Is Jean capable of a single original thought? A thought that does not require a footnote?

  • Skip the lady 4:27

  • @HeX4869

    Thank you.

  • So if someone (me) believes that government should not get involved in marriages of any kind...then they are "lying to themself". If someone doesn't believe in "democracy" (majoritarianism)...but instead believes in limited government...they are "lying to themself".

  • I'm bit dissapointed by Shermer. Didn't come up with much

  • Sam Harris is awesome

  • What the hoot did that poem add to the discussion? sigh.

  • ...and not a single point was addressed that day.

  • for sure the host and deepak been paking fudge...hahah

  • For the love of god lady, just shut up!!!

  • I honestly hope that I never see or hear from this woman ever again.

  • Harris is the most eloquent speaker, but falls into that same position lots of people do "but organised religion is bollocks" yes, it is, but can more open equiry into consciousness please.

  • After watching this whole debate I've come to one conclusion

    Michael = Logic

    Sam = Reason

    Depak = Woo Woo

    Jean = Zzzzzzz

  • The only person on that stage who believes in Jesus is the moderator.

  • @rebeccaindy He seriously has Jesus-eyes. You can spot them.

  • I really think Jean needs to be shot in the head and buried in a shallow grave.

  • That woman just quotes people. Frasier can deliver a better ending than her!

    Deepak just quotes himself!!!

  • Jean "We got a problem"-Houston

  • Jean Houston really does come across as nothing but an actress.... She does speak eloquently... but everything she says is scripted and most of it a metaphor for something fictional...

I half wished her to say ''for pity sake... let's eat some cake''...

  • @Silva1n1 Hahah that was hilarious. Thank you for that laugh.

  • @Silva1n1 she is too philosophical, she speaks eloquently and what she says sounds intelligent and nice, but it doesnt really have any application, even chopra would try to be specific, shes just trying to sound intelligent and intentionally being metaphoric, but it just ends up being some vague hippie sounding shit that really doesnt apply in real life anymore, she certainly didnt fit in this debate, or would fit in any debate like this, dont know why they had her

  • @wheresmywhiskey85 Im guessing they had to put a woman up there and shes the best they could get.

  • @Silva1n1 Jean could have continued, "I would not, could not, with a fox..."

  • @Silva1n1 this last segment was like a female william shatner, it was so fucking manufactured it made me sick

  • Sam and Michael were definitely the more intellectually honest of the debate.

  • Love the host's expression at 2:50 , and Shermer trying hard not to fall asleep a few seconds later!

Is it just me or she talking incoherent babble?

  • @3:25 Funniest shit!

"Affairs, are, now. soul, sized. The, enterprise, is.... Exploration, into, God",

Only William Shantner could've done a better job here. And she looks like she's off her face on something wicked.

  • @3:29 Funniest shit!

"The, enterprise, is.... Exploration, into, God",

Only William Shantner could've done a better job here. And she looks like she's off her face on something wicked.

  • 2:27 WTF was that ??? :-)

  • @OKTOPOXO Utter exasperation at the stupidity of religion and the grip it has on the world.

  • lol nice copy and paste in the top comments.

  • I freaking love Sam Harris he is awesome. He really looks like Ben Stiller tho :D He is like a really really smart Ben Stiller :D

  • women are emotional nutcases, fat men are stupid especially if they talk with a idiotic sounding accent. Healthy looking men who speak clearly about things are to be trusted.

  • 2:27 Is the sounds Sam makes when he orgasms! lol

  • @AdamDLDixon

omg I didn't notice it........ i'm not sure if sam is actually making that sound

  • Jean talks to herself on the bus and freaks people out.

  • @BlckSbthMan

    LMAO

  • @sonykroket Hahah

  • The insight of truth vs the presumption of profundity.

  • @SIMKINETICS Mhmm!

  • Jean, WTF are you going on about?!

  • Turn the other cheek to Islam and you'll get f****d again

  • I'll have two pints of whatever she's drinking so long as I can get to work in the morning. When she has toothache does she go to the dentist or pray to the great unknown?

  • WTF was she talking about? Team woo woo does not even know that they are out of their depth in this debate. I can only gather that they subjectively feel that god is some kind of unknowable etherial smoke that only exists in the spaces between scientific knowledge. I'm cool with that right up until people form in and out groups based on these teachings and start flying planes into buildings.

  • @AdUtrumquePeratus76 Bwahahaha!

    Team woo woo! That's hilarious!

You don't mind if I use that do you?

  • Shall we wake for pity's sake... lets have some cake!

  • @MrAlecksTv Hahahahahaa

  • She is on LSD.

  • Why is it the religious side always turning to cryptic quotes...

  • Man's wisdom is foolishness to Christ.

  • @747777

Are you saying Jesus knew more about the universe?

  • @747777 LOL but christ is a creation of man. So who has wisdom and who is foolish, the creator or the imagined? I agree with Sam when he mentions that we have more access to information then the people who lived 2-3k years ago. There is no mystery that gods are man made. Just look at them all and see how they have evolved and borrowed from other cultures and their gods. All we have to do is google gods from different times in our history to see this truth and conclude we made them not them us.

  • Can you imagine living with her?
