When a white guy uses racial derogatory words it means something completely different than a rap star putting it into an angry lyric. The angry lyric is a reaction to the white slur, really. thebig: Neither the fed gov't nor huge companies make decisions based on the complaints of Sharpton and/or Jackson. Black people don't control the country with 15% of the population. Advertisers, along with Whites, want to stop this hostile damaging discriminatory speech (bad for both Whites and Blacks). White people who seek fairness were prime movers in seeking that Imus be fired.

MSNBC fired Imus NOT because he was racist or sexist but because the sponsers pulled out. When you are a national broadcaster you have to realize that sponsers keep you there. Howard Stern left the media because he got sick and tired of FCC fines. MSNBC is a news channel, I never heard Imus before but I have of him from the Stern man. Bababooey bababooey bababooey

Yeah Stern hated Imus, I wish I could hear what he has to say about this, I don't like Imus just because of what Stern said about him, but really what Imus said is racist, demeaning and illegal to say on the public airwaves. Did you ever hear Grampa Munster Al Lewis say " Fuck the FCC" live on the air, during a free speach rally in Central Park, with apparently no real consequences- those were the days,

matt: Advertisers are part of the picture. But even so, advertisers wish to the take the high road, and always have. Advertisers are ultimately at the mercy of customers. That's us, and there are too many of us who have had it with this type of ugly speech.

hsia: actually, Black people are not historically well-represented in any sort of socialist or communist organizations. White people who want an end to unjust, oppressive hateful speech are neither liberal or conservative, but simply fair-minded.

ilove: millions of dollars are involved, such that loss of the advertising could harm a public company with lots of shareholders. The advertising revenues come as a result of viewers and listeners, enough of them such that "who cares?" becomes, well, kind of a dumb comment.
