pit bull attacks are the most common dog attacks in the country. period. there is no argument. not all are mean, but the breed has a propensity to attack people. I will never trust or own a pit bull. I was attacked and bitten on the hand by one when i visited my sister who's boyfriend owned one. the attack was unprovoked. they are a dangerous breed and i'm tired of people trying to convince me otherwise. statistics dont lie people!

@mdslick1 Genetics is very strong when it comes to dogs. Think about it, what makes a jack russel good at catching animals, or what makes sheep dogs want to herd( they try to do this with people). Blood lines are important, you have a dog bred for fighting what do you think you would get?? It bad breeding period.

They have been selectively bred since the 1700 for fighting(oldest known recorded pedigree was from a fighting dog in the 1700's),before that they were bred to bait bulls and attack bears. Not at all for real family pets which is why many don't make good pets as they have an inborn need to defend.

If you want to own a pitbull ok, I think most people who own them do so to extend a part of their personal traits they are lacking. Like courage, self-esteem, confidence, if the owner of the pitbull is retarded, that's when you will have major problems and the dog will pose a significant threat to the public. The state and local governments need to pass aggressive legislation to punish ill responsible owners with fines and extended prison sentences and pay restitution to the victims.

Dog's can not control how they are raised. humans are the only ones to blame.

This is incredibly sad, I hope the boy made a full recovery. People should always be careful with pitbulls, they need to learn more about the breed before getting one. Pits were originally bred for fighting, that's why they have such a powerful bite. Animals (and especially this strong breed of dog) should never be raised by irresponsible punks. Some people are just too stupid to properly raise an animal.

If you want to own a pitbull ok, I think most people who own them do so to extend a part of their personal traits they are lacking. Like courage, self-esteem, confidence, if the owner of the pitbull is retarded, that's when you will have major problems and the dog will pose a significant threat to the public. The state and local governments need to pass aggressive legislation to punish ill responsible owners with fines and extended prison sentences and pay restitution to the victims.

Personally in my opinion I'm not very fond of "pittbulls." Yes, these dogs can be the nice and friendly to there owner and family, but you have to understand that this type of breed is considered vicious to most people simply because its in the dogs genes and it has to deal alot in the owner and you train it.

Maybe it should be a requirement to get a licence to own a pitbull with up to one year in jail for owning one without such a licence. Don't make the requirements any more difficult than owning a handgun and it would allow ownership while cutting down on the idiot factor where you see someone keeping one as a living weapon as may have happened in this story.

my brother's pit and another pit were playing once and the other pit locked onto her neck, so out of defence my brother's pit locked on also. he simple told Mary to stop and hit her nose once and she unlocked her jaw immediately, while the owner of the other pit stood there without a clue how to get his dog off which led to my 20 year old, 230lb football playing brother to physically force the other dog's jaw open. Dog's can not control how they are raised. humans are the only ones to blame.

@84CHUN I agree too many idiots think its cool to own a rottweiler, pitt, and GSD whithout knowing how to handle the dog. They are powerfull breeds with man stopping power. I use to own a wolfdog, GSD mix, terrier mix and a lab/border collie mix. I did my reaserch before I got any of those dogs and each of them went through obedience classes. except the terrier mix she was my first dog got her when I was 9 or 10. People need to be more responsible if you know your dog bites put a muzzle on it
