I personally think these two have a lot in common and like the pairing because:

America isn't scare of Ivan like 75-85% of the nations canon wise in Hetalia

Lots of History like the other countries

One of the few that can stand toe to toe without it turning into 'always uke' or rape feast (as in Toris, Canada, England, or China...I never seen a Rochu fic that China was on top x.x)

When people think that Russia is nuts they fail to realize the other nation's history, (such as america getting rid of almost two different races, or England's constant annex of countries and pirate days.) There was a fic if the Japan/England joint country was still in effect and it's scare because of how insane those two are.

People just judge Russia first because he the most 'obvious' insane and has the most obvious bloody history. Of course I'm an american :3
